CHAPTER 557: DO NOT READ

Chapter 316

"It’s been almost twelve hours yet there’s been no response from the inside," An operator informed General Ming while she was in her private office.

"What do you mean no response?" General Ming asked.

"There have been no fluctuations in Miasma. They’re the same as they were. Usually, as a monster dies in the dungeon, its energy is divided into two parts. One part remains in the core and the other part merges with the dungeon, the power of the dungeon itself." The operator informed.

"You mean the will of existence that comes from the dungeon?" General Ming asked.

"Yes." The operator replied, "The dungeon is not what keeps them alive in there. It is more likely that we won’t know the events of the inside this way. We need to send someone inside to scope out the situation before we can further collect any more data."

"Hmm..." General Ming mused for a while before she turned to the woman and said, "Do what you must. But remember, Lieutenant, this project is very important to us. Even a minor mistake and we’re done for."

"Understood, General," The woman replied, aware of the severity of the situation. However, she didn’t leave. "Can I help you with something?" Seeing her so hesitant, General Ming asked, giving her permission to ask her a question.

"Is the elder... not on board?" The woman hesitantly asked. At the mention of the elder, General Ming slightly shivered but she kept a calm gait and replied, "His era is ending and ours is starting. We cannot keep doing things the old way. The time of magic and cultivation is behind us. Now we need to mix them with science to give us the best result. And so far..."

General Ming paused, looking outside the window of her office and directly looking at the very dungeon they were discussing as she continued, "We have proven how effective the new ways can be."

She then turned to the woman and said, "That’s why there can be no mistakes. Deal with it however you see fit. I need results."

"Understood," The woman replied and left, leaving General Ming to contemplate on her own. However, before she could even form a proper thought process, the woman who had left rushed back in without even a knock.

"What is it?" General Ming wasn’t mad but actually worried because the woman before her would never do such a thing. The woman took a deep breath and replied, "He’s... He’s out. And he has the zombie’s head with him."

General Ming didn’t need to be told what the zombie’s head meant. She knew all too well what it meant. She hurriedly stood up from her seat and made her way out of the building with hurried steps. Outside, she could see a crowd gathered around the dungeon gate.

"Make way for the General!" The woman with General Ming yelled, making everyone aware of her presence. They hurriedly offered her a firm salute and made way for her to pass. As she arrived in front of the dungeon, she saw a handsome man without a single wound on him. His clothes weren’t the same as the ones he went in with, but other than that, there was nothing that had changed about him.

Wei Jun remained silent as she remained silent as well. She just looked at him and transitioned her gaze to the severed zombie’s head that she recognized even with her eyes closed. She closed her eyes and opened them after a brief moment. She looked at Wei Jun and simply said, "Impressive."

With that, she left. As for the rest, while they thought Wei Jun had received the highest praise he could from a general, the receiver himself thought differently.

’Found her.’

Wei Jun left the building in his car. His car sped on the highway as he drove past the speed limit. All things aside, his meeting was just in an hour and the distance was more than he could cover in such a short time in his car. He had called for a helicopter that would pick him up on the way once it was ready. It was all at the last minute after all.

After about fifteen minutes, the helicopter arrived. Wei Jun hurriedly boarded it and a servant handled his car. Wei Jun, now a little at ease, finally checked his gains from the dungeon.

[You are the first to experience an artificial dungeon]

[You have gained a ’Fragment of Truth’]

[Death Qi +300]

Other than the nice surprise of a massive Death Qi, he received something else as well. However, he didn’t receive anything like those protagonists in the novel who were showered in rewards after such an event.

[Well, you aren’t one after all]

’Whatever.’ Wei Jun ignored the remark and asked, ’What is this ’fragment of truth’?’ Wei Jun asked.

[Can’t tell you]

[Find it out on your own]

[Though I will tell you this]

[If you’re jealous of those protagonists receiving such rewards]

[Then you really shouldn’t be]

[No reward will ever come close to this one]

’...’ Wei Jun contemplated the system’s words silently. The system was never wrong in such matters. As far as an assistant was concerned, Wei Jun believed there was no one better than the entity inside the system, the overseer.

If it was saying that the item he received was important, then it was important.

[Was it okay leaving it to them though?]

’I have no use for it.’ Wei Jun replied, referring to the zombie’s corpse he brought outside. The questions were already spreading. Why was the dungeon not closed even after the boss was killed?

In such a situation, if Wei Jun were to publicly deliver a piece of information such as the zombie’s head, the General wouldn’t be able to make it disappear. With the strange phenomenon now public, the general would have to either reveal whatever it was she was doing, or she would have to hide it better than before.

Either way, she would have her hands full enough to not care about Wei Jun any time soon. And that was all the time Wei Jun needed.

While he was still stuck in thought, the helicopter landed on the edge of the city he was going to. Long Bao city was a neighboring city of the Yuan Yin city. While it was not as prosperous as the Yuan Yin city, it had its own unique points that made it one of the big cities of the empire.

A servant was waiting with a sedan at the airstrip. Wei Jun got into the car and in just fifteen minutes, he was at his destination with fifteen minutes to spare.

The reason he was in so much of a hurry even though he could have just taken his time and still would have arrived on time was because, in a negotiation, the first one to arrive led the conversation.

Wei Jun wanted to be that person. So he patiently waited for the woman to arrive.

Mark Wilson was also present but not at the table. He, along with all the others in the café, waited for the meeting with bated breaths. Their master had stressed greatly on this mission. They were there to make sure nothing went wrong.

"Are you sure he’s not here?" Wei Jun asked calmly.

"Yes," Mark Wilson replied from the other side as he added, "He’s currently at the university. We’ll make sure he stays there."

Wei Jun nodded. It was imperative for Wei Jun to not be disturbed by the protagonist. Xing Xioamei, the female lead was supposed to meet the protagonist at the university later today. Wei Jun knew that if he wanted to meet her without the influence of the protagonist, he’d have to do it when she and the protagonist were set to meet somewhere else.

Because he was sure the set time would come. All he had to do was slip in that small time frame and take a little bit of her time. It wasn’t long before the café’s door opened and a woman that took everyone’s breath away entered. Wei Jun’s men along with Mark Wilson, and even the woman among them, were blown away by that beauty and all their gazes held was simply worship.

Even Wei Jun had to admit she was beautiful. Even more so than Xia Lu and Yan Rong. Still, he was as unfazed by her beauty as he was by any other woman’s.

What mattered to him was his goal. The beauty of a woman was superficial. He had learned that lesson well throughout his life. That lesson began with his father and mother and ended with his own last experience.

"Mister Ruan?" The unrivaled beauty asked. Wei Jun simply nodded, no apparent change in his expression which the woman felt was a little strange but she paid it no mind. She was getting enough attention from the surroundings. The last thing she wanted was for her meeting to end up in the same way.

"You asked for ten minutes," Xing Xiaomei said, "They began when I entered the café."
