CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: DON’T GET ENGAGED, OKAY?

A lot of high society ladies gathered around Bella Sterling, showering her with envy and flattery. With her pretty little face, Bella was beaming with happiness and pride.

Just then, Bella saw Serena. She quickly moved forward, "Serena, you’re here? I was so worried you wouldn’t come and witness my happiest moment firsthand."

The high society ladies also approached,

Vanessa, you are too kind. Serena used to be Seth Sullivan’s fiancée. Aren’t you afraid she might get jealous and cause a scene?

Serena has already married that ghostly husband from Orchid Court. Who knows how he tortures her? She might end up a widow any day now. Truly, fate is unjust. A country bumpkin can never compare to a real daughter of a prestigious family. Our Vanessa is already Mrs. Sullivan.

It was wise of Seth to abandon that bumpkin long ago. Seth and our Vanessa are truly a golden couple.

Listening to this performance, Bella playfully glared at them, "Don’t say such things about Serena. Actually, Serena is quite pitiful."

As soon as she said that, the entire crowd gasped.

Everyone looked at Serena in shock. What was she doing, stealing...the groom?

Bella’s expression changed drastically, quickly scolding, "Serena, what are you doing? This is my engagement to Brother Seth, don’t ruin it!"

Seth’s pupils contracted, entirely unprepared for Serena’s words. Ten years had passed; she used to be so clean and stubborn, never yielding to him.

Seth took a step forward.

Bella immediately clung to Seth’s sleeve, preventing him from moving, "Brother Seth, don’t fall for Serena’s trap. She’s doing this on purpose to seduce you!"

Seth drew his sleeve back from Bella’s hand, then walked up to Serena, staring at her, "Is what you said true?"

Everyone exchanged looks. The situation was clear now; if Serena only nodded, the prospective groom would run off with her.

Bella dug her nails into her palm, her eyes starting to redden.

Serena looked at Seth and suddenly laughed, "Seth, I was just joking with you. Don’t take it seriously."

"..."

The crowd erupted in murmurs. Serena’s joke was too extreme!

Seth’s gaze instantly turned icy. She was toying with him!

With a smile, Serena’s gaze fell on Bella’s teary eyes, "What’s going on? I only made a joke at the engagement party, what’s with everyone’s expressions, Bella? Why do you look like you’re about to cry?"

Saying this, Serena lifted her hand and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, "Don’t worry, I’m not a garbage collector. What’s left from my games, you can keep."

The crowd was dumbstruck, watching Serena command an intimidating aura, wondering if she had gone mad, daring to speak like this!

"You!" Bella was close to being driven mad with anger.

The atmosphere on-site had turned awkward and oppressive when Gregory quickly stepped in, "Alright, the auspicious hour has arrived, the engagement ceremony officially begins. Seth, didn’t you prepare a romantic proposal for Bella?"

The crowd, eager, clapped along, proposal, proposal, proposal!

Seth withdrew his icy gaze, and under the collective gaze of everyone, he took a bouquet and slowly knelt on one knee in front of Bella.
