Lin Chen's hand trembled, and the car nearly didn't crash into the guardrail.

Looking at Lin Chen's flushed cheeks, Zhou Ying suddenly burst into giggles, "Relax, I'm just teasing you. You can buy me a late-night snack."

Lin Chen felt quite depressed. In fact, what he had wanted to say was, "Just take me in!"

Zhou Ying is considered the number one beauty in Huaxia, and thinking that he had missed such a great opportunity, Lin Chen felt the urge to find a block of tofu and smash his head on it.

The two of them arrived at a riverside Western restaurant and ordered a few desserts along with two steaming cups of coffee.

"Ying sister, I really want to thank you for today," Lin Chen said with a smile, using his coffee as a stand-in for a toast.

"Why be so polite with me? Besides, didn't I also gain a good deal out of it?"

"A good deal?" Lin Chen was puzzled.

Zhou Ying smiled, "I picked up such an impressive little brother for free, isn't that a great benefit?"

"Why do you have so much confidence in me, Ying sister? Aren't you afraid I'll tarnish your reputation?" Lin Chen said with a smile.

Zhou Ying's face broke into a sly smile, "Of course not, I have faith in you!"

The two were chatting merrily when Lin Chen's brows suddenly furrowed slightly; he had spotted a few reporters carrying cameras at the entrance.

This pack of paparazzi was simply too tenacious. Lin Chen had been very careful, but he hadn't expected them to still be tracked down.

"What's wrong, Xiao Chen?" Zhou Ying, noticing Lin Chen staring blankly at the curtain, asked.

Without raising any alarm, Lin Chen pulled back a corner of the curtain, "Take a look outside."

Zhou Ying's face immediately turned sour as she looked outside, "How did these paparazzi follow us here? What do we do now, Xiao Chen?"

Lin Chen smiled, "Don't worry, I have a plan."

After settling the bill, Lin Chen led Zhou Ying to the third floor terrace of the Western restaurant and pointed down, "We're going this way."

Zhou Ying peeked down and quickly pulled her head back in, "No way, it's too high."

At that moment, Lin Chen heard the footsteps of two reporters sneaking up from below, preparing to take unauthorized photos.

Lin Chen picked up Zhou Ying from behind and whispered, "Close your eyes."

Just as Zhou Ying closed her eyes, Lin Chen had already leapt from the terrace with her in his arms.

Feeling the wind rushing past her ears, when she opened her eyes, she found they were already on the lawn below.

"My god, Lin Chen, how did you do that? We just jumped from the third floor!"

Remembering that Lin Chen had actually carried her down from the third floor, Zhou Ying felt a wave of fright wash over her.

"Hehe, I know qinggong. Let's go quickly before those reporters spot us again," Lin Chen said as he pulled Zhou Ying and ran out of the back courtyard.

Ten minutes later, the Mercedes-Benz business sedan stopped in front of them. Zhou Ying, a little worried, said, "Xiao Chen, let me take you home."

"No need, I can get back by myself," Lin Chen said, waving his hand as he closed the car door for Zhou Ying.

Watching the Mercedes-Benz business sedan disappear, Lin Chen shook his head; being a big star was indeed exhausting.

Lin Chen had just received a call from Qin Lan; she was arriving on a flight at ten o'clock that night to DY.

Lin Chen was planning to go back to the coffee shop to pick up his BMW, but he discovered that the entrance was already closely monitored by more than a dozen reporters.

He knew that if he headed over now, he would definitely be swarmed by those reporters for a frenzied photo session, so Lin Chen immediately hailed a cab and headed straight for the airport.

The plane arrived on time at DY Airport, and Qin Lan came striding out briskly.

"How is it, any clues?" Lin Chen asked.

Qin Lan had a triumphant look on her face, "Could this great detective not have clues? Through testing, we have obtained very important evidence. We found bloodstains on the gloves, and they belonged to the girl who died. Furthermore, we found hairs on the gloves, and through DNA comparison, they are indeed Du Wei's."

Does that mean the old man was wrongfully accused, and Du Wei is the real culprit?

Qin Lan nodded, "We're going to the station now. I want to reopen the case to clear the old man's and the girl's names."

"Good, I'll accompany you," said Lin Chen as he and Qin Lan got into a car.

"Master, to the DY Public Security Bureau," Qin Lan said to the taxi driver after they got in.

The taxi driver responded with a nod and started the car.

Not long after the car started, Qin Lan began feeling drowsy and unexpectedly dozed off.

Lin Chen was also leaning against the backseat, emitting soft snores.

The taxi driver let out a cold laugh and pulled the car over to the side of the road.

Actually, this taxi driver was an assassin sent by the Du family, and the car had been tampered with beforehand, which is why Lin Chen and Qin Lan had been knocked out shortly after getting in.

The driver gave Qin Lan, who was lying unconscious, a sinister smile, "It'd be such a waste for such a good-looking girl to die like this."

As the taxi driver reached his hand toward Qin Lan's alluring curves,

"Buddy, the last guy who touched her chest seemed to have been kicked into oblivion," suddenly, an unexpected voice rang out.

Just as the taxi driver's hand was about to touch Qin Lan, he was startled by the voice and jerked away. Turning around, he found Lin Chen watching him with a smiling gaze.

"How come you're not passed out?" the taxi driver looked at Lin Chen as if he'd seen a ghost.

"Sorry, it seems I'm immune to your knockout drugs," Lin Chen said with a cold laugh.

A fierce look flashed in the driver's eyes, "Kid, I didn't want to kill you at first, but since you're courting death, you can't blame me."

With that, the taxi driver reached into his waist and pulled out a dagger, thrusting it toward Lin Chen.

Lin Chen sidestepped quickly, grabbed the driver's wrist, brought it close to his chest, and struck the back of the taxi driver's neck with his palm. The driver's body slumped and he fell onto the chair.

Lin Chen pulled off the taxi driver's belt, secured his hands, and then took a small bottle from his pocket and waved it under Qin Lan's nose.

Qin Lan slowly opened her eyes. On seeing Lin Chen, she first looked confused, then hurriedly sat up, "What happened?"

Lin Chen shook his head in resignation, "Sister, I really wonder how you graduated from the Public Security University. With your intelligence, I think you'd be better off farming with me."

Qin Lan, noticing the driver tied up beside her, flushed slightly but still retorted defiantly, "Who has a low IQ? I was just caught off guard for a moment. Once we take him into the station, I'll interrogate him thoroughly."

"Going back to the Public Security Bureau? Don't you think today's events are odd? Aside from me, who else knows you're back in DY?" Lin Chen asked.

On hearing Lin Chen's words, Qin Lan's expression changed, "I also mentioned it to our deputy director. Are you suggesting that the deputy director might be involved?"

"What do you think? You had just arrived in DY, and someone had already laid a trap for you to walk into. I'm certain your deputy director is compromised," Lin Chen asserted confidently.

"Those bastards. Lin Chen, what should we do now?" Qin Lan had intended to hand the evidence over to the deputy director and then arrest Du Wei, but she had not expected to be betrayed.

After pondering for a moment, Lin Chen replied, "Let's interrogate this guy first, then decide what to do next."
