CHAPTER 1078: 1078 SNOW PEAK! (6TH UPDATE)
After clearing out the crushed ice, the water surface became clear, faintly revealing the bottom.
Ye Qiu crouched by the side, noticing indeed a group of slender white fish swimming actively back and forth in the water.
Relying on nothing but an old man’s broken rod with a string tied to it to fish seemed utterly delusional, how could it possibly work?
Ye Qiu couldn’t comprehend the old man’s actions. Since the other party attributed the inability to catch fish entirely to him, he might as well help him catch a few fish.
So, Ye Qiu used his spiritual power to form a net, directly enveloping the group of fish underwater, and with a thought, he watched as a group of fish, flapping their tails, burst out of the water, pulled into the air by his spiritual power, landing all onto the ice surface.
It was no effort at all.
With spiritual power on his side, such a task was a piece of cake for him.
The old man looked at Ye Qiu in some surprise, not expecting his spiritual power to be so strong, and to be able to use it to such an extent, even catching fish.
"Senior, there are far more than five fish here, you can’t blame me now," said Ye Qiu.
The old man’s ears perked up, and he said indifferently, "Twenty-two fish, not bad at all."
Ye Qiu’s eyes flashed, surprised at the old man’s keen perception to know the number of fish without even looking, seeing the old man nodding in satisfaction, Ye Qiu let out a sigh of relief.
But just as Ye Qiu breathed a sigh of relief, he watched the old man sweep his wooden rod, suddenly sweeping most of the caught fish back into the water, the fish swayed briefly, then immediately dove deeper.
"Senior, you..." Ye Qiu was puzzled.
"Five fish are enough to eat; it’s better to put the rest back, lest we deplete the resources," the old man said as his hand moved, threading the five fish onto the wooden rod in the blink of an eye.
The old man carried the fish on his back and departed with large strides.
Ye Qiu quickly followed, asking, "Senior, do you live alone here in the depths of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest?"
Without stopping his steps, the old man replied indifferently, "Boy, you’ve caught the fish, and I don’t blame you now. You’d better leave this place quickly as it’s not a place for you."
Ye Qiu wasn’t about to leave so easily. The old man’s presence here was strange enough in itself. Judging by his words and actions, he certainly wasn’t a person of the ancient land but had likely lived here for a long time.
Ye Qiu pursued him with the intent to ascertain from him whether the Beast God actually existed in this place.
"Senior, have you seen the Beast God?"
Upon Ye Qiu’s question, the old man suddenly halted his steps, slightly turning his head to say, "Since you know about the Beast God, you should be even more aware that this is forbidden ground. Leave now before the Beast God gets angry; not even celestial beings could save you then."
Ye Qiu’s heart was filled with amazement, suggesting the existence of a Beast God was indeed real.
What did the Beast God look like? Was it a giant beast taller than a mountain or a monster with many heads? Ye Qiu was filled with endless curiosity.
More importantly, Ye Qiu wanted to witness the strength of the Beast God, to know what kind of existence it truly was.
"Have you ever seen the Beast God, senior?" Ye Qiu boldly asked, disregarding the old man’s warnings.
"What do you want to know? Let me advise you: leave now, or when it’s too late, you’ll have only yourself to blame for not heeding my warning," the old man said sternly.
"Please, senior, tell me, what kind of existence is the Beast God?"
Ye Qiu didn’t give up, prompting the old man to pause, turning his head abruptly, saying, "Do you really want to know? Want to see the Beast God?"
Ye Qiu hesitated for a moment before eventually nodding.
His curiosity about the most powerful ancient beast was immense, especially since his own ancestors seemed to have never encountered the Beast God.
Seeing Ye Qiu’s persistence, the old man’s tone shifted, "Alright, since you want to see it, come with me, but I must warn you to be ready to risk your life."
After speaking, the old man resumed his slow steps forward.
Step by step, although his pace was slow, he left Ye Qiu behind in the blink of an eye.
"Is my life really in danger?" Ye Qiu was hesitant. If it meant losing his life, it wasn’t worth it, but this was a Beast God, an ancient entity; how could Ye Qiu not be curious about such a formidable being?
Ultimately, Ye Qiu decided to follow along.
He was determined to see for himself. If the Beast God was so petty as to attack at just a glance, it would only mean he had overestimated the Beast God.
Hearing Ye Qiu’s footsteps, the old man was somewhat surprised, having thought his harsh words would scare the young man away; however, he had misjudged, as Ye Qiu still followed.
Trailing behind the old man, Ye Qiu continued into the depths of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, approximately five kilometers later, he saw a peak hidden among clouds.
More accurately, it was a snowy mountain.
Towering into the sky, from a distance, Ye Qiu perceived it as piercing straight through the heavens, with its top imperceptible to the eyes.
This view appeared somewhat mystical, as from the ancient land, looking in the direction of the Barbaric Wilderness Forest, this extraordinarily tall snow peak was invisible.
Many among the ancient tribes likely knew about the existence of this snow peak.
"This mountain is the Beast God’s bed. If you’re lucky, you may see the Beast God; of course, that would also be your misfortune, for apart from me, any humans who have seen the Beast God have all perished," the old man said, with a faint undertone of bitterness hidden in his words.
Ye Qiu was inspired, thinking perhaps it was because this old fellow was blind, unable to see anything, that granted him a pardon from the Beast God.
Of course, this was just speculation, not to be taken as truth, only regarded as a possibility.
Although the old man reminded Ye Qiu again, he had no intention of leaving; having come this far, retreating now would not only leave him with regret, but it would also blemish his resolute warrior’s heart.
His martial path was one of advancing forward. If he dared not even look, how could he hope to ascend to the martial pinnacle?
Seeing Ye Qiu’s firm determination, the old man ceased to dissuade him, leading him to a wooden cabin beneath the snow peak.
Inside, they felt warm for a moment, then proceeded out to prepare the fish for grilling.
When it came to food, Ye Qiu excelled, particularly in grilling, where he was an expert. Five fish, scraped with the Kusanagi Sword to remove scales, were set on fire to grill, soon releasing a fragrant aroma of grilled fish.
The old man’s nose twitched in approval, "Not bad craftsmanship, it’s a pity..."
The old man’s words trailed off, yet Ye Qiu could guess the latter part, lamenting his stubborn pursuit of seeing the Beast God, destined to meet his demise.
"Here, senior." Ye Qiu handed the grilled fish to the old man, savoring grilled fish amidst the icy landscape, admiring the snowy peak’s beauty with swirling snowflakes; it was truly beautiful.
"Ah... what a pity, such a pity indeed."
The old man murmured as he ate the grilled fish, increasingly feeling regret for Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu was speechless, wondering if just seeing the Beast God truly meant certain death?
