Supreme Heir Son-in-law
Chapter 818: Finally Meeting
CHAPTER 818: CHAPTER 818: FINALLY MEETING
Wei Lai still didn’t know that the person he just met had completely lost interest in relying on him, not to mention that he had already excluded Wei Lai from consideration as an ally, along with those close to him. One could say he lost both a wife and a soldier in this deal.
Meanwhile, Wei Lai was still dissatisfied with the other party’s evasive behavior.
"Impressive, just how impressive can a young person be? It’s nothing more than a tactic to gain my protection without wanting to pay any price. With that attitude, they expect me to protect them? Not a chance. Absolutely not. Forget it," Wei Lai couldn’t help but vent his anger as soon as he got in the car.
"Someone as busy as me, putting off my work to come and see you is giving you face—you should feel honored. And yet, you come at me with these deceptive tactics. What kind of person is that? Hmph!" Wei Lai got angrier the more he thought about it, cursing a few more times before finally calming down.
No matter how old a person gets, a rebellious mind tends to persist.
Initially, Wei Lai didn’t think much of the Xu Family, planning to ask someone to help deal with the issue casually and be done with it. However, he didn’t expect to face obstacles time after time, which made him uncomfortable, especially since he’s never faced such a series of setbacks since entering politics.
In the midst of these continuous setbacks, Wei Lai became genuinely fixated, unilaterally placing Xu Ke at the top of his must-remove list without Xu Ke knowing.
At the same time, Wei Lai developed a strong curiosity about Xu Ke, wanting to know what kind of person could evoke such fear just by name, leaving others with no desire to confront him.
Wei Lai waited for the day he would meet Xu Ke, and he didn’t have to wait long; the opportunity soon presented itself.
Wei Lai and Xu Ke met at a banquet of a colleague, which was actually the engagement banquet of a family junior.
"Are you Xu Ke?" Wei Lai blocked Xu Ke’s path and asked.
Not to mention anything else, just in terms of appearance, Xu Ke could stand out at the event. He didn’t need to do anything. Even in the most basic suit, without any adornment, just standing there made him a striking scene that captured everyone’s attention, especially with a cool beauty by his side.
When Lin Mengyao saw someone suddenly blocking in front of her and Xu Ke, she instinctively became tense, her hand holding Xu Ke’s arm trembling slightly. Xu Ke patted her arm reassuringly.
"I am Xu Ke, and you are?" Xu Ke looked at Wei Lai’s face and asked coolly.
Did he really not recognize Wei Lai’s face? How could that be! Apart from Wei Lai’s striking resemblance to Wei Ji, given Xu Ke’s desire for revenge, how could he not investigate his opponent’s information? He asked only to amuse himself.
"I am Wei Lai, Wei Ji’s father," Wei Lai said arrogantly.
"I thought the person who dared to hit my wife and son and smash things in my house would be someone remarkable. But it turns out, just ordinary, nothing special," Wei Lai spoke as his critical gaze fell on Xu Ke, looking at him as though he were trash.
"I’m giving you a chance to apologize to my wife and son. If your apology satisfies them, I’ll let you go. Otherwise, you won’t have a good outcome. You should know how easy it is for me to deal with you," Wei Lai threatened.
"Is that so?" Xu Ke responded, his face expressionless, as if merely cooperating with Wei Lai’s show to avoid making things too awkward.
Xu Ke’s attitude was like a slap across Wei Lai’s face. His words did more harm than good, arrogant and rude to the extreme.
"Do you know what your son did to my sister?" Xu Ke asked, seeing the anger swell in Wei Lai’s face.
Wei Lai was caught off guard by the question; he was so focused on revenge that he didn’t know the event’s specifics. This made his expression a bit unnatural as he asked with some guilt, "What did he do?"
"My sister has been frail since childhood, cherished like a delicate flower at home, beautiful and sweet. Yet, your son became infatuated with her. He tried to force himself on her, and when she resisted, he and a few boys threw her into the pool. It’s forgivable in high summer, and for your sake, we could have let it slide. But it was autumn; you know the term ’Autumn Tiger,’ right?"
Xu Ke spoke, his face devoid of expression, which made it scarier, as though he was repressing emotions, waiting for an eventual eruption.
"My sister soaked in cold water for who knows how long. By the time she was pulled out, she was so weak, almost dead. After countless attempts at the hospital, she finally survived. We took good care of her at home, but the doctor said she may only live until her thirties. My sister just became an adult; hardly half her life has passed before her death date was pronounced. As family, how could we not be angry and upset? As her brother-in-law, isn’t it justifiable for me to stand up for her?" Xu Ke asked coldly.
"Moreover, compared to what your son and wife did, I believe I was lenient enough." Xu Ke said, taking the opportunity to pat Lin Mengyao’s slightly trembling arm.
"Perhaps you don’t know; the first time I hit your son, he came to me. We were having dinner when he barged into our house, sneering and leering at my family. So, I hit him. It wasn’t long before your wife came over with a bodyguard to assault my wife and my already frail sister, causing her to be hospitalized again right after being discharged," Xu Ke said, a mocking smile on his lips.
"Don’t you think your family has gone too far? You only see how I treated your family, but choose to ignore how my family was treated by yours. For someone of your status, isn’t that unjust?" Xu Ke continued with a soulless smile.
