Supreme Heir Son-in-law
Chapter 819: The Insolent One
CHAPTER 819: CHAPTER 819: THE INSOLENT ONE
Wei Lai never expected that there were hidden stories behind this matter. To be honest, he was indeed feeling a bit guilty. From an outsider’s perspective, what Xu Ke did was not only not excessive, but overly merciful. However, he thought he stood in the position of the victim, which is why he dared to want to trouble Xu Ke so confidently. In the end, he did not expect to find himself holding the label of the perpetrator.
This inevitably evoked some feelings of shame in Wei Lai, but these emotions were quickly replaced by another feeling.
Now that things have escalated to this point, he absolutely cannot admit his mistake no matter what. It would be too embarrassing to admit it, and it wouldn’t be good for his family’s reputation. So, no matter what, the Xu Family has to take the fall, and the victim’s position can only be occupied by the Wei Family.
As for the Xu Family, Wei Lai thought that in consideration of them taking the blame, he would let their family go bankrupt and then drive them out of Shangjing. As long as they never return and do not disturb them, he would consider this matter as never having happened, giving them a way out.
Wei Lai believed this idea was overly kind. Honestly, no one could hear the voice in his heart; otherwise, if they heard his shameless thoughts, they might get sick from anger.
"These are just your words. I know my son best. He has been well-behaved and sensible since childhood and received the strictest education. He would never do such a thing. Also, it takes two to tango. If your family’s girl hadn’t deliberately seduced my son, making him like her, would this have happened? So ultimately, it’s your family’s child’s fault. If she had been as well-behaved as other children, she wouldn’t have met with such trouble." Wei Lai said confidently.
"Besides, you said my son and his friends threw your sister into the swimming pool. Did you see it with your own eyes? If not, who told you about it? How do you know your sister didn’t accidentally fall in herself, and it was my son who saved her? If you were there, why didn’t you save your own sister? This just doesn’t make sense." Wei Lai spread his hands, displaying a blatant rogue attitude.
"I have never seen someone more shameless than you." Lin Mengyao, unable to bear listening to Wei Lai slander Yu Xia over and over, said, trembling with anger.
"I’m shameless? What right do you have to call me shameless? Who are you to insult me like this? Are you not insulting yourself?" Wei Lai replied righteously to Lin Mengyao’s accusation.
Lin Mengyao was so infuriated by the shameless attitude of this family that her whole body shook. She had never met such thick-skinned people in all her life; even though it was clearly their own mistake, they insisted on shifting the blame onto others. How could such vile people exist in the world?
"Stop using flimsy excuses as your shield. Aren’t you embarrassed to say such things? Who are you, and what right do you have?"
Wei Lai dared to press him, and Xu Ke naturally could press back, even harder.
"I couldn’t tell that you have quite a vision." Xu Ke said with a cold smile.
Hearing Xu Ke say this made Wei Lai’s scalp tingle.
"Don’t try to put labels on me. I don’t acknowledge anything you said. And don’t think about slandering me. Forget our statuses; given the current situation between our two families, do you think anyone will believe you? It might bring more disasters to your family." Wei Lai warned with a threatening tone.
"Status? I really don’t know what your status is or mine, are we not all people, citizens?" Xu Ke replied calmly.
"Stop trying to confuse the issue. It’s apparent that none of you are good people; out of ten things you say, nine are lies. Lying and deceit must be a daily habit for you, right? Who would believe anything that comes out of your mouths?" Wei Lai retorted, his neck stiff.
"Well, you can try and see if anyone believes me. After talking with you, I finally understand why your son and wife’s words are always so annoying. Seems like they have a role model to learn from. If you don’t want that mouth, you can donate it to someone in need, and I mean it sincerely." Xu Ke took a step forward, looking at him closely, with an ambiguous smile on his face.
"Cowardly people aren’t just in business. Aren’t there also treacherous officials? Otherwise, where did the term ’treacherous minister’ come from, surely not because it sounds nice? If we’re talking reason, although our professions are different, by your logic, we’re almost the same. I’m a dishonest businessman, but if we really talk about harm, yours is much greater than mine."
Xu Ke spoke slowly, reaching out to loop Wei Lai’s tie around his chest, tightening it without a hint of a change in his smiling face, soon making Wei Lai struggle to breathe. Wei Lai looked at Xu Ke with disbelief, as if he couldn’t believe Xu Ke would treat himself like this in public. What was this, murder?
But soon, Xu Ke released his hand, saying with no remorse on his face: "Oh, sorry, I seem to have tightened it too much; are you alright?" he said, feigning innocence as people looked over inquisitively.
"Did you do that on purpose?" Wei Lai asked, clutching his neck and coughing vigorously. When he finally stopped coughing, he looked at Xu Ke as if staring at an enemy.
Thinking about his pathetic coughing fit potentially being seen by colleagues, Wei Lai wished he could kill Xu Ke right this moment and erase everyone’s memory here, making them forget his earlier embarrassment.
"Exactly, I did it on purpose. How does it feel to be unable to breathe with a hand around your neck?" Xu Ke looked at him without much apology and asked.
