CHAPTER 820: CHAPTER 820: HOSPITAL

"Does it feel uncomfortable? My sister also felt very uncomfortable when someone pushed her into the cold swimming pool," Xu Ke said nonchalantly, looking at his hand.

"I initially thought that if you were someone sensible in this family, we could all sit down and have a good talk about this matter. But now, it seems the old saying holds true: a family without harmony stays that way! There’s no room for reconciliation between us anymore. Let’s see who’s more skilled," Xu Ke said indifferently.

"Are you threatening me?" Just as Xu Ke was about to leave holding Lin Mengyao’s hand, Wei Lai grabbed Xu Ke’s arm, looking at him menacingly and asked in a deep voice.

"This is not a threat; it’s a declaration of war." Xu Ke’s gaze fell like a knife on the wrist grabbed by Wei Lai. Under Xu Ke’s gaze, Wei Lai instinctively released his hand but felt particularly annoyed at Xu Ke because of his own subconscious action.

"Is it just you? A mere small businessman, what else do you have besides a few stinking dollars? With your social status, you still want to fight me? Are you still dreaming and courting death?" Wei Lai said, feeling fierce, but in Xu Ke’s eyes, his threat was like a toothless old dog barking furiously, utterly lacking in threat.

"Heh." To Xu Ke, someone like Wei Lai, filled with outdated notions, wasn’t even worth talking to. Saying an extra word seemed demeaning.

"Let’s go. Staying with people like this only lowers our worth." Xu Ke shot Wei Lai a cold glance, then decisively turned around to leave with Lin Mengyao, giving Wei Lai no time to respond.

By the time Wei Lai snapped out of Xu Ke’s words, Xu Ke and Lin Mengyao had already disappeared into the mingling crowd, leaving Wei Lai sulking alone.

"Xu Ke! Just wait, if I don’t deal with you, my name isn’t Wei Lai," Wei Lai muttered through gritted teeth, his voice squeezed out from between his clenched teeth.

Meanwhile, after the engagement party, Xu Ke took Lin Mengyao to the hospital. There, Yu Xia was leaning against the hospital bed, sipping millet porridge little by little. Her body was so thin it seemed to be just skin and bone, her face pale and bloodless, looking particularly pitiful and adorable, making the two who rushed over feel soft-hearted at a single glance.

"How are you feeling today? Any better?" Lin Mengyao sat by Yu Xia’s side, took the bowl from her hand, and began to feed her.

Yu Xia, a bit shy, nodded slightly and said in a small voice, "Much better. I feel like I can be discharged." Yu Xia looked at Lin Mengyao with a strong sense of longing in her eyes.

Lin Mengyao’s heart softened at this, almost nodding immediately in agreement, but at the last moment, she held back. "Let’s see what the doctor says. If the doctor agrees to discharge you, we’ll take you home to recover."

Hearing Lin Mengyao say this, Yu Xia nodded obediently. She didn’t particularly like the hospital environment, disliking the smell of disinfectant and the pervasive whiteness that made one feel uneasy and uncomfortable.

Fortunately, Yu Xia’s recovery was going well, and there was no major issue with going home, though continued care was necessary.

Hearing she could be discharged, Yu Xia’s smile grew noticeably brighter. While waiting for the discharge process, Xu Ke heard a particularly noisy sound outside.

"What’s happening outside? Why is it so noisy?" Lin Mengyao asked curiously, listening to the commotion from outside. Yu Xia also perked up her ears with curiosity, looking outside, but from their position, they couldn’t see anything.

Xu Ke stretched out his hand, ruffled their hair, and said, "Don’t look. I’ll go out and see what’s happening and then come back to tell you. Don’t go out, okay?"

After instructing them, Xu Ke opened the door and went out. Outside, chaos reigned, with Xu Ke stuck on the outermost edge of the crowd, only able to see heads moving around but not clear on what was happening inside.

"What’s going on?" Xu Ke asked, pulling a person standing in front of him.

The person Xu Ke pulled was engrossed in watching the scene and initially didn’t plan to answer, but after sizing up Xu Ke, seeing how good-looking he was, the person replied, "What else could it be? It’s a medical dispute. Apparently, an old man had an accident while home alone and was rushed to the hospital. After waking up, he couldn’t move, so the children started causing a scene, blaming the doctors. But this is just what I heard."

The person beside him, hearing these words, had an expression of anger on his face and said, "This family’s truly shameless. Don’t they see how old their father is? If they genuinely cared, they’d have either stayed home or hired a caregiver. Now something happened, so they brought him to the hospital. At his age, the fact that he was resuscitated is good enough. Complaining and shifting all blame to the doctors—shameless, and they won’t escape retribution for it." After saying this, he spat forcefully on the ground, his anger evident.

These initially disinterested onlookers found their shared thoughts echoed in the conversation, and quickly bonded, engaging in discussion while Xu Ke became forgotten in the backdrop.

Seeing them engrossed, and having gathered enough information, Xu Ke intended to leave. Medical disturbances usually have hospital protocols to resolve them, and even if he intervened, it’d be quickly resolved. Before he could leave, however, a sudden scream erupted from behind, causing the crowd to scatter.

Xu Ke turned, following the noise, witnessing a middle-aged man wielding a fruit knife chasing after a young, pretty female doctor.

"Move, get out of the way." The female doctor called out as she ran. She wasn’t far from Xu Ke, and others had cleared a path for her, leaving only Xu Ke standing there. Anxiety was already lining her face.
