CHAPTER 822: CHAPTER 822: HOSPITAL DISPUTES

"The hospital nowadays isn’t like what it used to be, there are all sorts of people."

"Doctors back then really had a heart of gold. Look at doctors now, turning someone’s father into a cripple and still having the nerve to cry here. In my opinion, hospitals shouldn’t let young girls operate. Look at her, she’s barely grown up, what can she do on the operating table besides causing trouble and harming people?" An old lady in the crowd pointed at the female doctor and said.

"What are girls doing being doctors, studying so much? They still have to get married when grown up. I say girls should just stay at home to support their husbands and educate the children, there’s no need for them to work." Another older woman in the crowd chimed in.

The female doctor remembered this old lady. She was the one who performed surgery on her grandson. She also remembered the gratitude the old lady showed after the surgery, but how long had it been? Yet now, she was saying these things about her.

"How can you say that about me? Have you forgotten it was me who operated on your grandson? How can you forget what you said to me right after the surgery? Back then, you called me a good doctor and said you’d ask Buddha to bless me. And now, just a little while later, you’re saying these things." Tears welled up in the female doctor’s eyes as she looked at the old lady in disbelief.

The old lady, shamed by the female doctor’s words, blushed but refused to admit her mistake. Stubbornly, she said, "One thing has nothing to do with the other, can you lump them together?"

"Besides, we paid the hospital, isn’t it your job to save my grandson? And his surgery was a minor one; even without you, someone else could’ve done it better. But look at what you’ve done to this person, turning a healthy man into a cripple, and now you’re acting like we can’t speak about it. Are we only allowed to praise you? Can’t we even tell the truth?" The old lady argued obstinately.

"Young people these days are so restless. If it were us back then, this wouldn’t have happened." Someone spoke up in agreement with the old lady, making her feel justified.

"As for what really happened today, naturally the police and the hospital administration will handle it. Instead of gossiping here, why don’t you go back to the wards and take care of your own families? Because if I can’t control this man in a while and he picks up a knife and hurts someone, it won’t be something I can prevent." Xu Ke warned expressionlessly.

Seeing the knife near the man, the gossiping old ladies immediately fell silent, appearing as if the harsh words came from someone else’s mouth.

The knife in the man’s hand was disarmed by Xu Ke and kicked away, leaving it far from Xu Ke. The man didn’t have the strength to reach for the knife, but no one wanted to risk their safety to find out, and the noisy corridor suddenly quieted down.

The captured man suddenly had a realization, looking surprised at Xu Ke and asked, "You called the police? You called them to arrest me?"

He had never met someone like Xu Ke, who would call the police at the slightest disagreement.

"I don’t know what happened between you, but I know when I left the ward, I saw you with a knife chasing the lady doctor. She was lucky not to get hurt, and you are lucky you didn’t hurt anyone else, or do you think you’d still be here talking to me calmly?" Xu Ke tilted his head and spoke coldly.

"When something happens, don’t you know you should call the police? This is something kids learn right when they start school. If you don’t know, I’m telling you now, make a mental note, you’ll need it in the future." Xu Ke said, increasing the pressure on his hand, causing the man to cry out in pain unexpectedly.

"Everybody, leave it alone and disperse. If you’re so idle with nothing to do, go volunteer in the hospital. The medical staff are so busy here." Xu Ke addressed the crowd surrounding them again.

It wasn’t clear if it was Xu Ke’s words that reached them or if it was because hospital staff finally arrived late, fearing the doctors would hold a grudge and not treat their families well in the future, but eventually, the crowd dispersed.

"Don’t leave, help me, I’m still in his grasp!" The man restrained by Xu Ke watched as the crowd gradually left, a panic rising in his heart, and pleaded for them to stay.

But no one stopped to help him or stand up for justice. They quickly hid in the wards, peering through the cracks in the doors and windows at the situation in the corridor, but no one stepped out to stand before him and shield him from the storm.

"Who’s causing trouble?" Several doctors led a group of security guards over, their gazes shifting between Xu Ke and the man.

"This man is the troublemaker." The female doctor wiped her tears and pointed to the man Xu Ke was restraining.

"This gentleman came to help. There wasn’t a big incident, all thanks to him stepping in. Otherwise, I might have been hurt." The female doctor said in a voice tinged with tears.

Seeing their colleague say Xu Ke was someone who helped, the leading doctor’s gaze towards Xu Ke softened. They, being doctors, aside from fearing patient infections during surgery, were most afraid of encountering violent family members, especially those using weapons and acting irrationally. Therefore, after meeting someone like Xu Ke who stood up for them, they felt much more favorable towards him.

They wished that in their careers, when faced with troublemaking family members, someone like Xu Ke would appear to stand before them and protect them.

"Thank you for what you did today, just hand the person over to us, and there’s nothing more for you here. You can go back to your ward." A doctor said, approaching Xu Ke.

Although handling such a minor issue was nothing for Xu Ke, holding the man for so long did make his hand a bit sore, so he didn’t refuse and handed the person over to the security team.

"Alright then, I’ll leave this matter to you to resolve. By the way, I called the police earlier, they might arrive soon, so don’t be afraid, just speak the truth."

Xu Ke, worried the police he called might intimidate the doctors, reminded them before leaving, cautioning them to be mentally prepared.
