CHAPTER 824: CHAPTER 824: GREEN TEA BITCH
The female doctor couldn’t withstand Lin Mengyao’s gaze any longer, her eyes blinked, and tears started to fall. "I’m sorry, I misunderstood. Since you don’t need it, I’ll take the chicken soup away," she said. She took a deep look at Xu Ke with the chicken soup in hand and then turned to leave.
Once the female doctor had completely left the room, Lin Mengyao immediately turned her gaze to Xu Ke. "Why didn’t you say anything just now?" Lin Mengyao asked coldly.
"I trust my dear wife to protect me and handle her," Xu Ke replied, grinning and closing the distance between him and Lin Mengyao significantly.
"Stop with the sweet talk. Let me tell you, even when you’re just going out to help, you somehow manage to attract flirty women. I’m telling you, take care of yourself, and don’t go attracting any more flirty women, got it?" Lin Mengyao said as she forcefully poked Xu Ke’s chest.
"Don’t worry, I won’t," Xu Ke said with a smile, looking at Lin Mengyao, but couldn’t help seeing Ariel’s face in his mind.
Lin Mengyao looked carefully into Xu Ke’s eyes. Seeing that his gaze didn’t evade hers, she felt relieved. She didn’t know why, but she couldn’t stand Xu Ke being with other women, or even him saying a word more to another woman. Whenever she saw such a scene, it felt like there was a fire burning in her chest, causing her chest to ache and her breathing to become fiery.
"Alright, this time I’ll trust you. You better not betray my trust, you know? I don’t like you getting too close to other girls; it makes me uncomfortable," Lin Mengyao said, pouting her lips high enough to hang a vinegar bottle on them.
Xu Ke reached out his finger and pinched Lin Mengyao’s lips, saying, "Look at my little vinegar jar at home, the sourness can waft ten miles away." Xu Ke teased with a laugh.
"Don’t make fun of me," Lin Mengyao said as she grabbed Xu Ke’s finger pinching her lips and, with her other free hand, began tickling Xu Ke, breaking the somewhat serious atmosphere.
Yu Xia, leaning against the headboard with a smile, watched the two of them playfully scuffle and unknowingly fell asleep. Seeing Yu Xia asleep, the two stopped their antics.
"I’m a bit sleepy too, stay with me for a nap," Lin Mengyao said, tugging Xu Ke’s sleeve.
The VIP ward where Yu Xia was staying had a suite inside, so Lin Mengyao wasn’t worried about not having a place to sleep. Xu Ke, having gone along with Lin Mengyao’s playfulness for a while, was also a bit tired and did not refuse. The two laid down shoulder to shoulder, quietly chatting for a while before falling asleep. The room was exceptionally quiet.
Not knowing how much time passed, the room stayed silent, and Xu Ke opened his eyes to see Lin Mengyao still asleep.
Xu Ke carefully got up from Lin Mengyao’s side, unlocked the door, and moved into the hallway outside the ward.
"Seeing you again, haven’t you left?" The female doctor, who had been lingering outside the ward for an unknown amount of time, came over from an inconspicuous spot just as Xu Ke stepped out, appearing flustered and slightly shy.
"Weren’t you waiting here for me all along? You should know well if I’ve left or not." Xu Ke glanced at the female doctor and took a step to the side, sitting on the bench in the hallway, spreading his limbs like an elegant leopard.
"Are you waiting here to say something to me?" Xu Ke asked, looking at the female doctor from below.
The female doctor blushed, her legs feeling weak from Xu Ke’s demeanor. She obediently sat beside him, apologetically saying, "I came to apologize. It seems I caused trouble for you when I brought the chicken soup earlier. I just wanted to show my gratitude for your help, nothing more. I didn’t expect to cause a misunderstanding with your girlfriend. Was she angry with you? Do you want me to help explain?"
"First, let me correct you. Yaoyao is not my girlfriend; she’s my wife. We are legally married and have our documents. Second, she’s not angry or misunderstood anything, so there’s no need for you to explain anything. Lastly, I received your gesture, so let’s leave it at that." Xu Ke stepped to the side, creating distance between the two.
Xu Ke’s words brought a moment of paleness and reluctance to the female doctor’s face, but she quickly collected herself, her gaze still apologetic as she looked back at him.
"I’m sorry, I misunderstood. As long as she’s not angry. However, you didn’t accept my chicken soup, and I haven’t fully delivered my gratitude yet. In a way, you saved my life. Even though you said I don’t need to repay you, I can’t not repay you, otherwise, it will weigh on my mind," the female doctor said, lowering her head and nervously glancing at Xu Ke, speaking quickly, afraid of being rejected.
She looked at Xu Ke’s expression carefully after speaking, only to find him looking at her expressionlessly, his gaze dark, making her uneasy. She couldn’t help but ask, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?" She reached up to touch her face.
"Since you didn’t understand my subtle hints, I might as well be direct. I don’t want you to bother me. If you genuinely appreciate what I’ve done, I hope you can completely disappear from my sight. Besides, I actually didn’t intend to save you at the time. It was my wife who heard something outside and suggested I check it out, so I went to see. I originally just wanted to watch the commotion; it was you who ran towards me, so I acted. So there’s no need to thank me as it was all a happy coincidence." Xu Ke turned his face away, speaking casually as if he wasn’t aware of the hurt his words caused.
"Everything you’re saying is a lie. You’re lying to me, aren’t you? I knew it; your wife must have misunderstood, that’s why you’re saying these things. I don’t believe what you’re saying; I won’t. You must be lying to me," the female doctor said as tears ran down her face, turned, and ran off without giving Xu Ke a chance to speak.
Watching her depart, Xu Ke’s lips curled into a slightly mocking smile.
