CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: HE DOESN’T BELIEVE SHE CAN’T HAVE CHILDREN

When Adrian Grant returned to Lowell Manor, it was seven in the evening.

As soon as he pushed open the door, he saw that Raina Lowell had already brought the two kids over.

The mother and children trio, along with Madam Cole and the children’s nanny, were all gathered in the living room.

Because of the children, the entire house seemed much more lively, filled with laughter and cheerful conversation.

In the past, whenever he entered, he would immediately be noticed, and Raina Lowell would always come to attend to him in time.

But now he had been standing at the doorway for quite a while, and no one had paid him any attention.

Adrian Grant felt a bit dejected, and had no choice but to change his shoes by himself and carry his coat along.

"Oh dear, sir is back!"

Madam Cole exclaimed loudly.

Everyone in the living room simultaneously turned their heads.

Little Aurora was overjoyed, dashing over to wrap her arms around Adrian Grant’s leg.

With her little face uplifted, her glossy big eyes blinked at Adrian Grant as she sweetly asked:

"Can we call you Daddy now, okay? Daddy, why did you come back so late? Have you had dinner yet?"

Adrian Grant was caught off guard by the child’s sudden gesture, and his body stiffened.

It wasn’t as if he hadn’t convinced himself to accept these two children.

But when they truly rushed to him, calling him Daddy, he still felt an unsettling discomfort in his heart.

He coldly pulled the child away, saying nothing as he turned upstairs.

Little Aurora couldn’t understand what was wrong with the handsome uncle.

Didn’t Mommy say that she and her brother could call him Daddy now?

Why did Daddy not look happy to see them at all?

He didn’t even let her hug him.

Watching the handsome uncle’s departing figure, little Aurora turned around and ran to Raina Lowell, feeling a bit sad.

"Mommy, Daddy seems to still not like us calling him Daddy."

Raina Lowell also didn’t understand what Adrian Grant’s issue was.

Obviously, he had agreed to let her bring the kids over and said both of them had adopted them, yet why was he still unwilling to engage with the children?

Thinking he might need some time, Raina Lowell picked up her daughter on her lap and told her:

"It’s alright, we can take our time; eventually, he will grow fond of us."

"Alright then!"

Little Aurora didn’t think much of it and continued playing with her brother.

Raina Lowell really wanted to know what Adrian Grant was thinking, and since he was back at this time, she didn’t know if he had eaten yet.

She asked Madam Cole and Ms. Ford to look after the children and followed him upstairs.

Entering the room, she saw Adrian Grant taking off his vest and shirt, seemingly preparing to shower.

Raina Lowell went to get him the towel and home clothes, casually asking:

"Have you had dinner? Do you want me to prepare something for you?"

She actually thought this man would really stay at Isabelle Everett’s place.

Unexpectedly, he came back.

"No, I haven’t."

Adrian Grant gestured to the documents on the coffee table in the living room.

"Keep that adoption agreement safe. If Grandpa asks about it, you can hand over the agreement to him."

Adopting children naturally required an adoption agreement.

If the kids were brought over without one, news would quickly reach the old residence within days.

Raina Lowell walked over to pick up the agreement.

She hadn’t expected Adrian Grant to be so thorough; the agreement seemed almost real, complete with stamps from various agencies.

She carefully put it away, watching as Adrian Grant headed into the bathroom, she threw in:

"I’ll prepare you dinner; come down to eat when you’re done."

Adrian Grant replied with an ’Okay’, his attitude much better than before.

Raina Lowell felt quite grateful to him.

So as long as they weren’t divorced yet, she would strive to fulfill her duties properly.

She didn’t stay upstairs for long, and when Raina Lowell went downstairs, she was surprised to see Elias Sheridan had come over.

He was affectionately holding Evelyn.

She became so tense that she trembled all over, rushing over to take Evelyn into her arms, instructing the child:

"Evelyn, can you take your sister and play over there?"

Little Evelyn felt a bit reluctant, knitting her little brow, "But I want to learn things from Uncle Sheridan."

"Be good, take your sister and go play over there first."

Raina Lowell told Ms. Ford to take them over.

Little Evelyn, always the most obedient, dared not disobey Mommy’s words, so he had no choice but to go with his sister and Ms. Ford.

Raina Lowell looked at Madam Cole, signaling her to prepare dinner for Adrian Grant.

Once the living room was left with only her and Elias Sheridan, Raina Lowell wore no pleasant expression, coldly asking:

"Didn’t I tell you to stay away from my children? What do you intend to do?"

Elias Sheridan, dressed in casual wear, sat there young and handsome, smiling warmly.

"I just don’t get it, what’s going on with you? Can’t I interact with those two kids? Are you afraid I’m going to eat them?"

This woman didn’t know why she had such a strong aversion to him.

It truly left him baffled.

Raina Lowell’s attitude remained unchanged, "I forbid you to make contact, so you can’t. Leave right now."

Elias Sheridan stopped being playful with her.

He could tell this woman truly detested him.

Although he didn’t know what he had done wrong, he patiently explained:

"I only came over because Adrian Grant called me. He heard you weren’t feeling well and asked me to check on you."

Raina Lowell immediately refuted: "I’m perfectly fine, I don’t need you to check, so just leave."

If he weren’t Aurora and Evelyn’s father, why would he try every possible way to be around them?

Every time he got close to the children, he handled them lovingly as if he couldn’t let go.

If he didn’t know the children were his, how could he be so caring and fond of them?

Recalling the incident from four years ago, Raina Lowell gritted her teeth.

Elias Sheridan had no way out.

Not wanting to explain any further, he sat there indifferently saying:

"I can leave, but I will only go when Adrian comes down and agrees."

"This is my house, I decide, and I want you to leave now."

Raina Lowell didn’t want to see him for a second, directly using her position as the hostess to drive him away.

Elias Sheridan didn’t move, nor did he get angry; instead, he laughed.

Laughing, he looked at Raina Lowell and asked her:

"Did I do something you find offensive? Why do you suddenly hate me so much?"

"Or is it that your infertility is a lie, and you actually never intended to have children with Adrian, and you reject me so much because you’re afraid I’ll expose you?"

It could only be this.

Otherwise, he truly couldn’t figure out what this woman loathed about him.

Raina Lowell felt a little dazed.

Did Elias Sheridan come to see if she could conceive?

He’s a man, does he understand gynecology?

So Adrian Grant still didn’t believe what she said and specifically had Elias Sheridan come over to check her.

Raina Lowell didn’t want this man touching her again, and her eyes grew colder as she looked at him.

"Didn’t you hear me tell you to leave?"

Elias Sheridan saw that she was angry, feeling he probably hit the truth.

He didn’t bother to meddle in their marital affairs, standing up and leaving words behind:

"Alright, I’ll go, but it’s a pity about little Evelyn’s talent; if you truly care about him, nurture him well."

Since others didn’t permit him to be the discoverer of talent, why insist on being self-righteous?

Elias Sheridan left without being an annoyance, striding away.

Watching him leave, Raina Lowell finally breathed a sigh of relief.

When Adrian Grant came downstairs for dinner, she accompanied him in the dining room, proactively saying:

"If you don’t trust that I’m infertile, we can go to the hospital for an examination. But why would you have Elias Sheridan check on me? I don’t like him, and I don’t want him coming to Lowell Manor again."
