Survival Begins Through Adaptation
Chapter 24: Inheritance
CHAPTER 24: INHERITANCE
Khal lay slumped on the ground, breathing heavily, his expression bleak as he stared at Hagan’s grave. Merlin sat next to him, calling out to him and asking what was wrong but Khal remained silent, his focus elsewhere.
Khal’s stable mind skill began to react heavily, calming Khal down. Khal sat up and took a deep breath, placing his hand onto Merlin’s shoulder.
"It’s nothing; im fine. I was just a little startled, that’s all." Merlin nodded her head and backed away, giving Khal some space.
Damn it... Khal thought, biting down on his bottom lip.
The situation has gotten even worse. Hagan didn’t want me to know what she looked like to avoid her being able to track me down to earth and now that’s happened.
With Hagan’s last lingering soul fragment being destroyed, I’ll now never know how exactly Hagan’s world was destroyed to prepare against her...
Khal clenched his fist, his rage showing.
The only viable option left is to hope Pat can give me some useful information.
Khal sat up from the ground, turning his gaze to Pat, who stood on top of Hagan’s grave, staring at him.
"We have a problem." Khal said, his tone serious.
Khal explained to Pat what had happened. He and Merlin stayed silent as he spoke, their expressions shifting through worry and fear.
"You’re saying that the person that destroyed Pat master’s world is now heading for ours? I can’t believe that the rifts held other life besides monsters; everything we know about the tears is a lie." Merlin, her tone laced with worry and uncertainty.
"I used to think the same thing, but given the fact that your family already knew about this tomb, im now sure that big families and high-level awakeneds know that intelligent life exists beyond the tears." Khal replied.
Pat jumped down from the grave, walking around in a circle, rubbing under his eye.
"I knew something was wrong when i saw the way you were trembling while you were inside Master’s mind. Its a good thing I pulled your hand free."
Khal, surprised at his words, widened his eyes. "That was you? If you didn’t im sure i would be a goner by now... Just that woman’s soul fragment’s strength is beyond common sense."
Pat looked over at the glass display at the end of the tomb, staring at Hagan’s spear.
"I only know of the two soul fragments that master left behind, but if there’s anything that my master would leave another in, it’s his spear."
Khal looked over at the display at Hagan’s spear. It’s sleek shaft, which had the design of a dragon, stretched from the bottom to the spearhead, which was twice the size of an average spear, with it’s bright orange glow and the sun carved onto Its surface.
Khal began to walk over to the display, his footsteps echoing in the tomb. Khal stood before the display, his gaze stuck to it.
If there’s anything that can give me answers, Its you.
Khal reached out his hand and grabbed onto the spear, pulling it out of the display.

This item’s information cannot be read.
Khal waited a few moments for something to happen, but nothing did.
Wait, i haven’t tried that.
Khal put the spear’s blade to his palm and swiped his hand. The spear easily sliced his palm, blood being left on the edge. The spear glowed in response, his blood dissolving on it.

Khal read the spear’s information with a grin. As expected from an ascension third-stage expert. Even the restricted version is incredibly powerful. Even gold-tier weapons look like toys in comparison.
Still... Something should have happened by now.
Khal waited a while longer, but once again the spear didn’t react. Khal looked up, closing his eyes and letting out a deep sigh.
Seems i can only depend on myself.
Khal turned around, facing Pat and Merlin. He Placed the spear into his inventory, shaking his head.
"Nothing happened beyond it reacting to my blood. Khal explained, walking towards them.
"Its likely dormant. Knowing hagan and how much he loved that spear, he must have left something behind."
Khal stopped next to the grave, pulling the dusted book from hagan’s hands and placing it into his inventory.
"Regardless, i can’t sit around and wait for it to happen; i have a school examination i need to take first place in."
Khal walked off, heading towards the exit. "Let’s go, Merlin; we have places to be."
"Coming." Merlin ran to his side, walking beside him.
Pat, confused on what was happening, began running behind them, his little tentacles barely keeping up.
"Hey! Hold on, why are you acting like i didn’t just see you pull my master’s diary from his hands, and you have bigger issues than some school exam!"
Khal ignored him and kept walking.
"Your right, i do, but as of right now, im too weak to stop it. What i can do is do everything in my power to get stronger. And becoming the number 1 student in raven city is the first step."
Khal continued.
"Now show me how to switch the door back to the first entrance and stop bitching."
Merlin placed her hand over her mouth, giggling. Khal looked over at her, raising an eyebrow.
"What are you laughing at? Don’t think i forgot what happened just now. Just do your job and feed me intel and I’ll search for a way to save your sister. We have a mutual benefit relationship and that’s it."
Merlin stopped her chuckling, tilting her head to the ground. "Yes... I understand."
Khal fixed his gaze back before him, coming close to the tomb exit.
"Come on, Pat, i don’t have all day."
Pat stopped in his tracks, looking up at the ceiling with his tentacles wide. "Why choose him master... Why him?
