CHAPTER 104: LIN XU OF WU VILLAGE

"G-General Mo... General Mo is here!"

The room went silent.

Lin Xu’s fingers tightened around her sleeves under the veil. The air around her seemed completely still.

Su Feng’s calm face darkened slightly, though he said nothing.

Zu Shi and Yan Mei exchanged startled glances from their seats, while the guests began whispering louder.

"What did you just say?" she asked the maid once again, just to make sure she wasn’t seeing things.

Yet the maid said the same thing, "Madame, I’m sure... outside, General Mo is here with his men; they barged in."

Hearing that, Lin Xu almost lost her balance, but Su Feng helped her stand properly.

He stared at her, though Lin Xu noticed that his expression didn’t seem shocked at all.

But was he?

Before she could think more, Su Feng said, "Since General Mo is here... we can’t keep him waiting. Come."

He took hold of her hands and led her outside the hall, towards the main gates where Mo Ying and his men were waiting.

Yan Mei and Zu Shi also came out together with the other guests, all curious to know why the general was here.

Arriving at the main gate, the first person Lin Xu laid her eyes on was a tall man wearing a dark blue robe.

That color only one man wore best, yet this robe seemed different from the one he wore in her dreams.

It was well-made, expensive... priceless even, and it looked good on him.

He was seated on a white horse, his hair styled in a ponytail, a small bang falling at the side of his face.

Her eyes were locked on him, almost as though he was the only human on earth.

[Switching to Lin Xu’s POV]

Mo Ying came down from the horse, slowly marching towards me.

Before I knew it, he was just a few feet away from me.

His gaze shifted from me to my hands, which were locked with Su Feng’s.

Immediately, sudden rage was visible in his eyes as he grabbed my hands, removing Su Feng’s grip on me.

When he did that, the entire courtyard was filled with gasps and murmurs.

"Why did the general do that? Wait—Isn’t he familiar? He looks like Lin Xu’s second husband, doesn’t he?" one of the villagers muttered.

"There’s no way. What rubbish are you talking about... The general is so rich and powerful. Why would he marry a single mother with three children? You have bad eyesight!" the other argued.

"Though I am just a servant of the emperor, I still have to ask what brings General Mo here on such a blessed day. If the general wanted an invite to my wedding, you should have informed me; I would have gotten you a special invitation," Su Feng said aloud, slowly walking towards Mo Ying and Lin Xu, who had been pushed toward him.

A small smirk appeared on his lips as he continued, "In fact, I would have even made sure to invite your two wives too... sh, sorry, I meant three. After all, Your Grace was just given the hand of Lady Chu, if I’m not wrong."

As soon as I heard his words, I snapped back to reality. Using my full force, I yanked my hands from his grip and pushed him away.

Facing him with a swollen face, I cried out, "General Mo, what is the meaning of this? Barging into my house? Disrupting my wedding and laying your hands on me? How unruly are you!"

"Disrupting? Even if I disrupted this marriage, there is nothing wrong with it!" He gripped my shoulder.

"You want to remarry? I’m not even dead, Lin Xu, and here you are trying to marry another man!" he said, his words making me laugh.

He talks about me remarrying as though I was dead? Has he forgotten how he married two women even while knowing full well that I was alive?

Yet he has the guts to even utter such rubbish to me. He had the right to move on, but I don’t?

I snapped, having had enough of this nonsense. "So what? How does my marital life have anything to do with you? General Mo, I think you have mistaken me for someone else because, last time I checked, the only man I know with the name ’Mo Ying’ is the son of a farmer—an ignorant idiot who thinks he’s the handsomest man in the whole world."

I muttered... my eyes wavering slightly. I was trying my best not to force any tears out. I mustn’t let him see me cry... no, I mustn’t.

"But that Mo Ying is dead... you are General Mo Shen, so why are you here... please leave!"

I shouted at the top of my lungs. The villagers shifted their gazes from me to Mo Ying again and again; it was like watching two couples fight.

Mo Ying stared at me, his eyes glued to mine, but I looked away, facing my left, not wanting to even look at him.

At this point all I wanted was to use a stick to hit him. Hit him so hard he bled.

Stepping forward, Su Feng grabbed my hands, his action causing all eyes to fall on him.

"General Mo, you heard my wife... you have no relationship with her, so you being here is of no use. Please kindly leave," Su Feng said, pointing towards the almost broken gate.

His words made a crass smirk appear on Mo Ying’s face. It bore so much sarcasm that I was shocked. He looked so different, and so was his temperament.

Was this what two years of war could cause?

Stepping towards Su Feng, Mo Ying shouted his words in full command.

"Bring out the scroll!" Mo Ying barked.

A soldier stepped forward, unfolded the royal scroll, and cleared his throat. He read in a loud, steady voice so everyone could hear.

"By order of His Majesty, Emperor of the Xuen Empire, General Mo Ying is hereby granted the imperial decree. For his victory at the northern front and his loyal service to the realm, the Emperor bestows upon General Mo Ying the right to claim a woman of his choosing as his concubine. The General has chosen Lin Xu of Wu Village to be part of his family. Let this decree be carried out."
