CHAPTER 88: PREGNANT?!

"You aren’t aware? The new general’s wife has just been found pregnant!"

Old Man Fu broke the news, leaving the three of them in shock as Zu Shi and Yan Mei exchanged looks immediately.

"P-pregnant?" Lin Xu repeated the words slowly as Old Man Fu nodded, smiling.

"Yes, pregnant... hahaha, aren’t you guys excited?! The general married such a beautiful princess six months ago, and now she’s pregnant. I have heard news on how the general has been doting and taking good care of his wife... Now that she’s pregnant with his child, he would surely give her the whole world."

"Hahaha... Umm, Old Man Fu, that’s enough information for today. You can head back now..." Yan Mei laughed as she softly pushed the man away.

"Huh... W-well, alright then, goodbye... see you guys tomorrow!" He waved and left.

After he left, Lin Xu dropped the cup of tea in her hand and sat down, her face straight.

"Lin Xu..." Zu Shi called out to her.

"Please don’t!" She raised her hands to stop her from speaking. "I don’t want to hear anything... today is a happy day for me. Don’t add more salt to the wound."

She then stood up and left, heading straight to her office.

"I feel so bad for her... So Mo Ying could move on so soon? Didn’t he promise to come back for her? Now he has gotten the princess pregnant and dotes on her so much... such a betrayer."

Yan Mei frowned as she folded her hands and collapsed on the chair.

Zu Shi slammed her palm on the table, her face dark with anger. "That bastard Mo Ying!" she snapped. "So he went and married a princess, huh? And now she’s carrying his child? Hah! Typical man, sweet words when he needs you, and when you’ve suffered enough, he goes off to live like royalty!"

Yan Mei frowned. "Zu Shi..."

"No! Don’t ’Zu Shi’ me!" she interrupted sharply, her eyes blazing. "Lin Xu has worked for him for six months now... It may sound short, but I know how long the days have been for her. She doesn’t say it or admit it, but every single day she sits in a corner lost in her thoughts, thinking about that jerk. All she does is throw herself into her work, she doesn’t even find joy in herself anymore. That scumbag!"

Yan Mei clenched her fists tightly. "You’re right... he’s heartless."

"Heartless? He’s worse than that!" Zu Shi spat. "He used her, disappeared, and now he’s living in luxury while she breaks her back to survive! Look at her barely sleeping, running two shops just to feed her kids, and he’s probably busy feeding grapes to a princess!"

Yan Mei sighed, running her hand through her hair. "If Lin Xu hears you—"

"What happens, huh? Let her get angry or upset! The sooner she learns to forget about that idiot, the better for her... I’m heading home." She stood up and strode away, leaving Yan Mei alone as she just sighed.

"Now what am I going to do by myself?" Yan Mei pouted.

---

Meanwhile, back in her office, Lin Xu went in to take some water as she gulped it down so fast as though she had just finished a race.

After she finished drinking, she slowly walked towards her chair, collapsing slightly.

[You’re really going to sit there and pretend you’re fine?]

Lin Xu sighed. "Not now, Susu."

[Not now? You’ve been saying that for months. That man got another woman pregnant.]

"Susu..." Lin Xu muttered, tightening her grip on the cup.

[He promised to come back. Promised to protect you. And look where you are now, tired and hurt.]

"Enough!" Lin Xu snapped, grabbing the nearest book on her desk and swinging it toward the orb.

The book smacked Susu straight on its glowing side, sending it spinning midair.

[Ow! You maniac! I’m your system, not your punching bag!]

Lin Xu crossed her arms. "Then stop nagging me."

Susu floated closer, its glow dimming slightly.

[You can hit me all you want, but deep down you know I’m right.]

Lin Xu looked away, her voice low. "Maybe... but right now, I just want peace."

[Whatever, I just wanted to come inform you of the newest upgrade.]

"Upgrade?" Lin Xu asked, raising a brow. "What upgrade?"

Susu floated lazily around her head, glowing faintly.

[The system has gone through a minor upgrade last night. A new feature has been added.]

Lin Xu leaned back in her chair. "And what exactly does this new feature do?"

[It allows the host to see certain events happening in specific locations in real time.]

Lin Xu blinked. "You mean... I can actually see what’s going on somewhere else?"

[Yes. With clear vision and sound. Like a moving scroll projection.]

Her eyes narrowed slightly. "That sounds... convenient. So what’s the catch?"

[It’s expensive.]

"How expensive?"

[Two thousand taels per viewing.]

"Two thousand, what?!" Lin Xu almost choked. "Are you trying to rob me, Susu?"

[Hey! Don’t glare at me. I don’t make the rules, I just deliver them.]

Lin Xu rubbed her temples, groaning softly. "Two thousand taels just to spy on someone? That’s robbery."

[Correction: observe, not spy. And you don’t have to use it. I’m only telling you because you might want to know what’s happening around you... especially with a certain general and his shiny new princess.]

Lin Xu froze, glaring at the glowing orb. "Susu."

[What? I’m just saying. Information is power, Host.]

"Susu..."

[Fine, fine. I’ll shut up. But admit it, you’re curious.]

Lin Xu’s silence said more than words ever could.

[See? I knew it.]

She slammed her hand lightly on the table. "I said no! I’m not wasting two thousand taels to watch that man!"

[Hmph. Your loss. But don’t blame me when something interesting happens and you’re left out.]

Lin Xu scowled, but her heart was already wavering.

"Susu... show me the menu."

Susu twirled in excitement, glowing brighter.

[Hehehe~ knew you couldn’t resist. Opening system upgrade panel now.]
