CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 50: PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER DESERVE TO BE TOGETHER

He Fang returned to the dorm room still somewhat upset. She hadn’t intended to talk much to that person, but he had spoken ill of someone foolish.

"You came up so soon? Did you clear things up?" Chen Yan was surprised. Had the guy not persisted further?

"I had already made it clear before, I was just repeating it." He Fang slowly climbed onto her bed and settled down, "Whatever he wants to do is his business, not mine."

"I think it’s not bad, though. He still wouldn’t give up after you rejected him so many times; why don’t you like him?" Zhou Nan was curious.

"It’s annoying when someone won’t give up in this sort of situation, even though that kind of persistence isn’t wrong elsewhere," He Fang said, "A relationship has to be because both people like each other; one-sided obsession only makes one detestable."

"Wow, that sounds quite reasonable." Zhou Nan also sat up from her bed, "Do you and your boyfriend like each other?"

He Fang grinned proudly, "Of course."

"Yo, yo, yo, Ms. He Fang, let me interview you. How did your boyfriend charm you like this?" Chen Yan waved a book as if it were a microphone, "Ever since you met him, you’ve been smiling foolishly from time to time. Can you tell us how he sweet-talked you into dating him?"

"Yeah, how did you two meet?" Zhou Nan was also very curious. "Initially, you were adamant about not dating; how did you change your mind so quickly?"

"Um..." He Fang thought for a moment, "No reason, I just really liked him."

"A simple ’like’ had you enchanted as if bewitched? You seemed like a completely different person recently." Zhou Nan scoffed.

"Right! Answer again!" Chen Yan was dissatisfied with the brush-off, pushing the book ’microphone’ towards her mouth, "For example, what do you like about him?"

"I like that he likes me, and he likes that I like him," He Fang said, as if reciting a tongue twister.

"That guy downstairs also liked you." Zhou Nan quipped, not being entirely honest.

He Fang shook her head, "It’s different. I feel that people in school are very... childish; yes, childish, which is why I said I wouldn’t date in college."

"Your boyfriend is very mature? He isn’t some young-looking old man, is he?" Chen Yan asked with wide eyes.

"No, what I mean is... being sensible is the opposite of being childish, not being mature." He Fang pondered a moment, then sat up straight to lecture them, "This has nothing to do with maturity. For example, the guy downstairs, I clearly rejected him the first time he pursued me, but he continued sending gifts for a long time."

"That’s liking someone, isn’t it?" Zhou Nan asked curiously.

"No, that’s childish. If I hadn’t clearly rejected him, his actions wouldn’t have been a problem," He Fang shook her head.

"But after I rejected him, he kept doing whatever he wanted, just going with his own ideas and not considering the trouble it caused for others. Even though I rejected him many times, he still wanted to impress me through harassment... or what he thought was sincerity? He wanted me to be touched by his actions..."

"... But he was the only one moved by his behavior, doing a bunch of things others didn’t like in order to pursue someone, then telling everyone: look how much I love her."

"Using the guise of love to forcibly bind someone who doesn’t like him at all. If some tender-hearted girl agreed to date him because she felt obliged by his kindness, what’s the difference between that and actual kidnapping?"

"It does seem that way..." Zhou Nan thought about it. "Self-centered, emotionally satisfying himself and then wanting to trap others into being with him—it’s annoying indeed, like a clingy plaster."

Chen Yan stroked her chin and shook her head, "That’s not right, if he did nothing, you two wouldn’t possibly be together at all. Isn’t that what liking someone involves? You have to show it."

"You can tell when someone likes another, even if they don’t say anything," He Fang leaned against the wall and stared at the ceiling, "True affection can’t be hidden; in fact, it might even be deliberately concealed, scared that you’ll notice, even though they might do something for you, they’ll act casual when they tell you: look, I just did it because it was convenient, look, I was just messing around."

"In reality, they don’t want to impose a psychological burden on you; they want you to like them because of that affection, not because of gratitude, or being touched, or even guilt. And if you truly don’t like them, they’ll silently walk away, then wish you happiness."

"Are there really such good men?!" Chen Yan exclaimed.

"Is your boyfriend like this?" Zhou Nan asked enviously.

Is this the legendary love? Compared to the fantasies I had before, they are totally lame!

"You guess?" He Fang shook her head. "Actually, there are many boys like this, they just aren’t good at expressing it. You guys should pay close attention and not miss out."

"Oh god, I’m so jealous." Chen Yan groaned, lying down on the bed. "Give me your boyfriend’s QQ, I want to hit on him a bit."

Zhou Nan scorned, "Wake up, little girl, the ones you can hit on are all jerks. A real good man would never let you succeed."

"Trying to hit on my man?" He Fang hummed. "In your next life... no, not even in your lives after that."

"Your man? Aren’t you ashamed!" Zhou Nan made a face-wiping gesture with her finger. "You aren’t even married yet and he’s ’your man.’"

"They sing bawdy songs all day and aren’t ashamed," He Fang looked at her with a mischievous smile, "whether you’re ashamed or not, you’ll experience it someday... hehehe."

"You’re getting dirtier!" Zhou Nan spat, then squinted at her. "Did you guys really do... that thing?"

"Which ’that’ are you talking about?" He Fang raised an eyebrow.

"Pretending!"

"How could I possibly let you know about such a thing?" He Fang mimicked her face-wiping gesture with her finger. "Aren’t you ashamed, prying into other people’s private affairs?"

"Who wants to know your silly secrets." Zhou Nan rolled her eyes. "You come back every night, isn’t it just announcing what you do during the day?"

"What’s wrong with the daytime?" He Fang shook her head, "This kind of thing between lovers, as long as the door is closed and both are willing, who cares?"

"..."

"..."

The two glanced at each other, suddenly both blushed, and then turned their heads away.

Really, those girls are a bad influence, how can we talk about such things casually?

"Don’t ask nonsense, there wasn’t anything."

"Yeah right, as if I’d believe that."

"..."

Suddenly, Chen Yan rolled off the bed and gripped the edge of He Fang’s bed. "Where can I find the kind of man you mentioned earlier?"

He Fang sat on the bed and spread her hands, "How would I know where to find one? You have to discover that yourself."

"And how did you find yours?" Chen Yan was persistent, sure there was some trick.

"Yeah, do tell, teach us, you’re the relationship expert of room 201 now," Zhou Nan also wanted to know how to find one.

"Well, there isn’t really a trick... oh, actually, there seems to be a small one," He Fang said uncertainly.

"What?" The two perked up their ears, ready to learn.
