Chapter 388: Catching Two Mice
CHAPTER 388: CHAPTER 388: CATCHING TWO MICE
The large group chasing after Qin Feng and Hu Yirun arrived soon after, while Sang Ning stood in place, surveying the surroundings.
Meanwhile, Huang Chengzi and Sun Bangyu were busy picking up the half-finished items that Qin Feng and Hu Yirun had discarded on the ground.
"Where’s Lejun? Wasn’t she also chasing them with us? How come I don’t see her?" Huang Chengzi paused mid-pickup, realizing someone was missing.
Sun Bangyu furrowed her brows slightly and shook her head, signaling that she didn’t know either.
"Forget it, it’s fine. If she can’t find us, she’ll probably head back." Huang Chengzi replied to Sun Bangyu first, then turned to Sang Ning and asked, "Sang Ning, did you see those two scoundrels?"
Hearing Huang Chengzi, Sang Ning withdrew her keen gaze from her surroundings. She shook her head slowly and said, "No, I didn’t see them. They’ve likely gone far by now."
"Makes sense. Leaving even their stuff behind, they must’ve been too scared we’d catch them. Honestly, what was the point? If they wanted to tag along with us, couldn’t they have just talked it out properly? Why go through all this drama?" Huang Chengzi said, exasperated.
Just as she absentmindedly looked up, she noticed Sang Ning winking at her.
Huang Chengzi froze. What was Sang Ning playing at? She didn’t get it!
Before she could ask, she saw Sang Ning walking over. Sang Ning crouched down to pick up some of the half-finished items and raised her voice slightly, "Since they’re not here, let’s finish picking up and then move on."
After speaking, seeing that neither Huang Chengzi nor Sun Bangyu understood her cue, Sang Ning decisively finished collecting the items and started walking ahead.
When Sang Ning headed off, Huang Chengzi and Sun Bangyu followed closely behind.
Halfway down the path, Sang Ning suddenly turned back and said to them, "Let’s change routes. There are still two mice we haven’t caught yet."
"What do you mean?" Huang Chengzi stood blinking, her face still riddled with confusion as her mouth gaped slightly.
Why would anyone want to catch mice? They’re so disgusting!
Though puzzled, Huang Chengzi and Sun Bangyu obediently followed along.
Meanwhile...
Once Sang Ning’s figure was completely out of sight, Qin Feng and Hu Yirun dared to slowly emerge from their hiding spot in the woods.
As soon as they met up, Hu Yirun immediately launched an aggressive verbal barrage at Qin Feng.
"I mean, seriously, you just couldn’t help yourself, could you? Had to piss off Sang Ning. Great work—now not only did we fail to steal anything, but we also missed out on the supplies the film crew air-dropped. I swear, I must’ve been under some kind of spell to team up with you!"
"Now what? The supplies have probably been snatched up by everyone else by now."
"Without supplies, we can’t make it out of this jungle. And if we can’t get out, we’re stuck spending the night in this godforsaken place."
"If you were a beauty, I might be able to tolerate it. But you’re a dude, and I am absolutely not into bro-on-bro candlelit nights."
Hu Yirun’s nonstop complaining was maddening, and the furrow in Qin Feng’s brow deepened with every word; it was clear he couldn’t stand Hu Yirun’s relentless nagging.
Qin Feng tilted his head, used his pinky to dig at his ear, and grimaced in irritation. "How about this—I’ll give you fifty grand if you shut up?"
Hu Yirun, who still had plenty of steam to vent, was about to lay into him again when those words abruptly deflated him.
His once stiff neck now drooped slightly forward, his body following suit with a small bow. And like an actor in a face-changing performance, his expression instantly transformed into one of sycophantic glee. "Pops, would you mind repeating that? Just to make sure I heard you right?"
Qin Feng paused his ear-digging, rubbed his fingers together thoughtfully, then blew on them lightly. Tilting his head with a sly smirk, he sneered contemptuously at Hu Yirun. "Alright, son, your ’Pops’ game is strong. I’ll make it a million—after the show ends."
What could’ve been perceived as deeply humiliating didn’t faze Hu Yirun in the slightest at this point. His head was swimming with just one thing: "One million."
"Pops, Pops, Pops, Pops." He shamelessly repeated it four times in one breath, eyes gleaming as he looked at Qin Feng eagerly. "I called you four times! Think we can bump it up to five million?"
"Get lost, you leech!" Qin Feng shoved Hu Yirun’s head away forcefully. "You’re absolutely money-crazed!"
"But then again..." Changing his tone, Qin Feng’s face suddenly lit up with a mischievous grin. "Calling me ’Pops’ won’t earn you more cash. But if you manage to find those supplies and get us out of this dump, I’ll reward you with ten million."
"Ten million!" Hu Yirun shrieked, his eyes practically popping out.
Alright, alright—so that’s how the rich play, huh?
Though moments ago Hu Yirun had resigned himself to despair over their botched theft and missed opportunity to grab the air-dropped supplies, the prospect of ten million was enough to rekindle his will.
Even without supplies, he was ready to pull materials out of nowhere if it meant getting paid.
As he straightened his back, preparing to make earnest promises to Qin Feng, an unexpected voice broke the atmosphere he had been building.
"Young Master Qin, you’re really that rich? How about I give you our supplies, and you hand over that ten million in exchange?" A sweet but teasing female voice chimed in, clearly not serious about her proposition.
Both Qin Feng and Hu Yirun snapped their heads in the same direction, only to see the face that made their hearts skip a beat—Sang Ning!
Where the heck had she come from?
Perhaps still reeling from the panic of their earlier escape, the two of them instinctively thought to bolt.
Just as they turned to run, two more figures emerged right in front of them.
It was Huang Chengzi and Sun Bangyu, blocking their way.
Another turn, and there was Sang Ning again, cutting off their route behind.
Attempting to stealthily slip away to the side, Qin Feng and Hu Yirun were thwarted when Sang Ning darted out and grabbed both of their collars. "Weren’t we talking about giving you supplies? What are you running for?"
Hu Yirun raised his hand to shield his head, as if bracing for a smack.
Qin Feng, on the other hand, decided to puff up with bravado, figuring that if Sang Ning agreed to take his money, he’d hold all the power.
Money makes the world go round—what was there to fear about Sang Ning?
"Finally, you see reason," Qin Feng said smugly, tilting his chin. "Understanding that you should hand over your supplies without trouble. But seriously, why did you guys come back after leaving earlier?"
Sang Ning’s lips curved into a faint, sharp smile as she replied dryly, "If we didn’t leave, how would you sneaky mice dare to crawl out?"
Qin Feng’s expression darkened slightly as he barked, "Despicable!"
Sang Ning tightened her grip on his collar, giving it a small twist. "Despicable? Not as despicable as sneaking around trying to steal someone else’s stuff."
Qin Feng opened his mouth to retort, but his words were choked off by Sang Ning’s sharp quip: "You want supplies, don’t you? Then follow us."
