CHAPTER 58: SYSDI 58: ACCEPTING THE PROPOSAL

Evan must have been staring at Spire for the longest time because her expression changed from a smile to a frown. Then again, she changes her mood immediately when talking to him so he really wouldn’t know.

"How long do you intend to stare!? Aren’t you happy that I, Spire Valrepite, a noble lady, has graced you with my presence?!" Spire exclaimed, a little loudly that it echoed throughout the hill they were on.

He stared at her for a bit more before nodding his head slowly. "Yes I do remember you, Spire. You got locked up in the chest I put my things in."

Spire gasped. Her face color goes from fair to pink and then to red in an instant. "T-that is in the past! Aren’t you going to invite me in?"

Evan scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, sure. Come on in."

He opened the door wider so Spire can get inside the house. He watched as she walks in, looking as if she doesn’t care about the state of disrepair the house is in.

Spire is wearing a simple lavender dress. Her long hair is currently tied up in two braids, going down on each side of her shoulders. The rest of her hair frames her hair, making her look both cute and noble. Her fox-like ears flicker a little bit before drooping a down immediately.

"Where are your parents?" Spire asked, looking around and noticing the silence.

Evan shrugged. "They have been both away since... four days ago. All they did was left me a letter saying they are going to come back after a few more days."

Spire looks disappointed. "I came here to talk to them about something. Looks like I came at a bad time." She paused and crossed her arms in front of her. "D-doesn’t matter then! You did get my letter and my father’s right?"

Evan nods his head. He remembered getting the letter and his dad reading it so both him and his mom could hear what the letter is about. He probably should have talked to them before he wrote a response. Then again, he was gone and they were too. It’s not like they would be able to discuss more about it. "I did. I got the letter says ago. I even sent in a reply."

"You did?" Spire raised an eyebrow. "I went here exactly because you didn’t send a reply. Where is the response?"

Evan shrugs a little. "I gave it to your messenger. He’s wearing a lot of clothes, enough to cover his entire self but in the same shade as the purple of your dress when you came here."

Spire hums. "You gave it to Adrian? That’s good. Did he lend you a stamp?"

"He did. Lend the stamp to me and told me how to use it. He gave me summarized explanation that might be useful in the future if I sent a latter again." Evan confirms. "How did you know that?"

"It is their custom. Besides, father would be aghast if he found out that your letter was opened in transit, even if that isn’t the case. It is just their standard procedure if you don’t have a family stamp." She waved one of her hand almost dismissively. "So? What was your reply in the letter?"

Evan’s eyebrows furrowed. From the way she’s asking, it meant that Spire is not home or has not been home to see the letter. It makes him sure now that Spire really is the one from the forbidden part of the library he was just in. "Why are you asking me that? You should just go home and see the response right?"

"Wha- because I deserve to know! Father gets the official letter and I can come here and get the answer from you." Spire says, turning to the side with a small huff. "Now tell me what you said in it."

Why is she being unreasonable? Evan scratched the back of his neck. This feels exactly like talking to Iva sometimes.

"I’m not going to repeat what I said at the letter." Evan replies. "But, I can tell you in summary what I said."

"And?"

"And," Evan echoes. "I wrote my answer there. I accepted your father’s proposal."

There is a brief silence between them before Spire gasped. She turns back to Evan with wide eyes. Her fox-like ears perk up at the same time too, almost as if she has his complete attention.

"You discussed this with Miss Sylvia and Mister Erwin, right?"

"We did. My parents didn’t agree."

There is a frown on her face when she heard that. Spire puts her hand on her waists now. "Then, why did you agree?"

"Because I will be the one who would make the decision for myself, not them." Evan walks towards the kitchen, which is only a few steps away from the door, then pulled a chair and sat on it.

"But won’t they be mad? Father may have proposed it but I know he would not like to force you, not like the other nobles would."

He looks at her and sighs. "Look, at the end of that, they both told me that we need to talk more about it in depth when I decided to give an answer. They left for work a few days ago before we did and your messenger arrived to get my answer so there’s that too."

"The entrance exams is fast approaching, you can’t blame Adrian for returning back to get your letter." Spire sighs. "Well, father will be thrilled. I didn’t come here just for that."

When he heard that, Evan looks confused. He watched as Spire pulls her own chair and sat on it, the chair she is on is exactly across from him.

What else is she here for? Did he go here because of the book? Was Evan somehow caught?

"I’m here for you." Spire says. "You’re coming back with me if your answer was agreement to the proposal. And since it was, my father asked for an entourage with you, just so happens I came with them."
