CHAPTER 65: SYSDI 65: THE VALREPITE MANOR 4
The clock on top of the desk inside the room reads that it is almost 6 in the afternoon.
It is close to nighttime.
Even if he has no idea when he will be called for dinner, Evan can safely assume someone will seek for him when the long arm of the clock points straight for 12.
Since he can’t learn another extra ability from the books because of his lack of slots, apparently, he returned the books to his item inventory. He would have to access them again in the future once he gains more slot.
For now, he lays down on the bed, waiting for time to pass by. He can take a nap, but his mind is too awake, thinking of ideas.
He can’t go to the stone hill cave. It will take up a lot of his time to explore. Besides, he might be called onto in a few more minutes. It would be weird if he was driven here, someone noticed that he disappeared and then he reappears as if nothing happened.
That would cause more harm than good. Evan is already trying his best not to be too noticeable. No, thank you.
So, he settles on the bed, staring at the ceiling instead. Iva is being quiet in his head. It is more than a little peaceful, even if there is a nagging feeling in his gut that something is really off.
In what felt like forever, there is a knock on Evan’s door. He stood up to wear his slippers and made his way towards the door to open it.
It is the same servant as before. He bowed in front of him, even if he is much more taller than Evan is. "Young Master Evan. Dinner will be served in ten minutes. Would you like me to help you to your new clothes before then?" He asked.
Evan looks at what he is wearing. It is a simple green shirt and simple shorts. He is clean and presentable, so there’s confusion on his face. "Is there some clothes I have to wear for dinner?" He asked. For the correct order please visit
The servant kept his head bowed. "No, there is none. It was just an offer should you wish to wash first before the meal. Would you rather after the meal instead?"
"Uh, yes, sure. Just after the dinner please." Evan felt weird that the servant is talking to him very polite like. "Thank you."
The servant stands up straight. "In the meantime, please follow me to the dining room.
Evan was led back to the long hallway of the east wing to the main entrance. But instead of going to the west, he was led straight to the double doors in the center of the room.
The servant opens the door for him, and beyond it, is a much bigger room.
There is a long table in the middle of the room, thick and hard and it looked as if it had been passed through generations. The chairs had intricate, carved designs from the back. The craftsmanship is something Evan has never seen before.
A lot of the things in the dining room were wooden. There is also another chandelier on top of the table, but it is lower than the usual ones. There are three prepared plates, with numerous spoons, forks and knives on each plate.
There is a feast in front that made Evan’s mouth water. For one, it is meat, something that Evan can only enjoy only twice per week when they can be buy them and none at winter.
There is also a variety of fruits and vegetables, on the table too. The only fruit that Evan has no tasted before was the yellow oblong-like shaped fruit. He has never seen it before.
The servant gestured at the chair on the left of the head table, where Evan sat in wait.
He looks around at his surroundings. It is far grander here than he has ever experienced. The big room makes him feel even more smaller than he really is.
Is this how noble live their lives? In spacious houses and extravagant rooms?
"Why haven’t you started eating yet?" Came a female voice from behind him.
Evan turns to see Spire, wearing a simple orange dress as she walks with her servant.
Her servant helped her sit on the chair right across Evan, on the right side of the head table.
"You could eat any fruit of vegetable while waiting." Spire continues. She points on the apple and the servant takes it for her and hands it for her to eat.
Evan watched the exchange with a raised eyebrow. "I wasn’t told I could begin eating. Besides, I’m used to waiting for everyone to be around to eat at the same time for dinner."
Spire paused mid-bite from what she heard. It was a brief moment but she continues to bite through it. "Not the case here then. Tell your servant if you’re hungry. He’ll get food for you."
Evan looks behind him to the left, seeing that the servant who called for him is right there. He is assigned to Evan specifically? Evan had no idea.
"You’re going to have to tell me what I can and can’t do here. Are there any rules? What if I don’t want a servant of my own?" Evan asked.
"I won’t apologize for not mentioning that you have your own servant. But you see, you have no choice but to indulge. You are in my manor, after all." Theobald’s voice can be heard.
Spire’s eyes twinkles but she didn’t move from her chair. "Father! You came to eat dinner with us!"
Theobald sat on his chair at the head table. He looked at Spire, patting her hair before turning to Evan. "Now that I’m here, let’s eat. We have a lot of other things to discuss."
For some reason, there is a pang of nervousness that went down Evan’s spine. There is no reason to be anxious, so he didn’t know where that came from.
