Cultivators like us may call it the Heavenly Dao, but it has another name: the Source Laws of the Universe."

Her gaze shifted toward the sky from the depth of the river, as she continued speaking.

"The Source Laws are the true essence behind all phenomena. Fire burns because the Source Law of Flame exists. Space stretches and bends because the Source Law of Space governs it. Even birth and annihilation, the rise of worlds and their inevitable collapse, are bound to the Source Laws of Life and Death. Without these Source Laws, the universe itself would crumble into nothingness."

"To comprehend even a trace of the Heavenly Dao is to touch upon the Source Laws of the Universe. There is a total of 18 Fundamental Source Laws. They are the Source Laws of the Five Basic Elements (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth), the Source Laws of the Five Rare Elements (Wind, Thunder, Ice, Light, and Darkness), the Four Unique Source Laws (Yin, Yang, Life, and Death), and finally, the Four Supreme Source Laws (Time, Space, Creation, and Destruction)."

Stopping for a few seconds and noticing that Alex was listening to her words carefully, Serena started speaking again, "There are many other Source Laws as well, such as the Source Law of Blood, Illusion, Sound, Sharpness, Poison, and many more. However, these are considered Derivative Laws, born from the fusion, mutation, or evolution of the 18 Fundamental Source Laws. While they can be extremely powerful in their own right, they are not considered part of the foundation of the universe itself, but rather its branches and extensions."

"Although there are many Derivative Laws, it doesn’t mean they are weak. In fact, many of them are much stronger than Basic Source Laws and even Rare Source Laws. On the other hand, comprehending Unique Source Laws is very difficult."

"The Source Laws of Life and Death—or in our terms, the Heavenly Dao of Life and Death—are two of the four unique Source Laws in the universe. Comprehending them is extremely difficult. However, passing through the Life Creation Stage and Death Domination Stage provides cultivators with a direct opportunity to grasp them. That is why I said earlier: whoever created these two cultivation realms must have been an extraordinary prodigy.
