Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might
Chapter 422 - 416 I Hold It With Unease
CHAPTER 422: CHAPTER 416 I HOLD IT WITH UNEASE
Leon acknowledges Laksha’s charm, whether in dragon form or human form, she’s stunningly beautiful. However, he’s not that casual a person; he has principles and morals, and has only been involved with a mere three women so far.
"Simply willing to do isn’t enough." Leon says earnestly, "The point is what can you do, and what are you going to do?"
"I, I am already an adult!" Laksha looks eagerly at Leon, "I can give birth to the most outstanding offspring for Lord Leon."
Leon keeps a straight face, thinking that he’s finally met someone obsessed with him after being in this world for so long.
"Do you know any spells?" Leon asks, ignoring her remark.
"I do." Laksha leans forward, her ample chest pressed against the table, "I know many spells."
"Necromancy spells?" Leon continues asking, thinking that Black Dragons prefer associating with easily controlled and loyal creatures, with the ideal subordinates being mindless undead, Shambling Mounds, Carnivorous Plants, Mud Monsters, and Mechanical Creatures, all of which have an enthusiasm for necromancy spells.
"I’m not an ordinary Black Dragon; besides necromancy spells, I’m also skilled in other spells." Laksha counts on her fingers, "Like prophetic and confusion control spells, I can also..."
"No, no, no, you’re mistaken." Leon waves his hand, "In fact, what I value most are the necromancy spells you know. There isn’t anyone around me who excels in necromancy."
Laksha tilts her head slightly, her long black hair sliding from her shoulder; she finds it inexplicable because in her understanding, the Red Dragons who worship destruction and flames rarely show interest in the coldness of necromancy spells.
"Do you know what I need most right now?" Leon says, "Zhen Dan Kingdom currently has plenty of land but still lacks population. What troubles me most is cheap labor."
"Mindless undead, who don’t complain or slack off, don’t require food or rest, are definitely the best laborers." Leon becomes excited; he’d wanted to employ them in the factories along assembly lines for a long time; he just hadn’t found the opportunity until now, seeing hope at last.
"Moreover, undead are not afraid of cold or heat, and don’t get sick." Leon adds, "They can adapt to any environment."
Laksha isn’t foolish and quickly understands what Leon intends to do, finding it hard to imagine someone scheming so meticulously for undead to work.
Leon also wishes to say that a King is like this; his subjects must devote themselves wholeheartedly into work, follow orders, and strive diligently, whereas a King must consider many matters.
"Low-level undead act only according to literal orders, never pondering what tasks entail; they mechanically interpret and rigidly perform. Though they can use weapons and wear armor, load and launch crossbow arrows and catapults, they still struggle with complex tasks."
Laksha cautiously organizes her words and continues, "As for those high-level undead..."
"If they can wield weapons, then they can wield mining picks, and that’s enough." Leon pats the table, "I don’t need those skeletons or zombies to do complicated tasks; I just need them for rough work like mining, digging, transporting."
Laksha also thinks not to dampen the mood, however things aren’t so simple and says, "Undead don’t require food or drink, but they need negative energy to move... either provided by spellcasters infusing dark energy, or through self-reawakening in a place filled with death and destruction."
"That’s simple." Leon says, "I have an Undead Black Scripture that’s been gathering dust; it’s a legendary artifact from the Ancient Fallen Empire’s Witch King Su Ausis."
"Undead Black Scripture?" Laksha mutters, somewhat lost in thought, "I think I’ve heard that name."
"If it’s confirmed as a legendary artifact, it can provide energy and vitality for many undead creatures." Laksha nods, "Supplying to skeletons and zombies, this low-level undead, hundreds or thousands are no difficulty; tens of thousands... I’ll need to see the actual item to say."
"We used an identification technique, genuine legendary artifact." Leon recalls, "I remember it can enhance your necromancy spells, summon mummies, dominate undead, resurrect the dead, and even conduct rituals to transform the living into powerful Mummy Lords."
"So?" Laksha asks, "Lord Leon wants to use it as an energy source?"
"Indeed." Leon says, "I can give it to you. If you’re confident about rallying a batch of undead to work for me."
"Give it to me?" Laksha is a bit taken aback, "A legendary artifact."
A legendary artifact, just the material cost alone could be as high as 500,000 gold coins.
"Yes." Leon counters, "Are you unable to handle it?"
Laksha feels her breath becoming rapid, worriedly asking, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll take the treasure and run?"
"You don’t believe I killed the Flame Divine Successor, do you?" Leon laughs loudly, the laughter making the whole pavilion seem to tremble, "Don’t you know word has spread to the Material Plane? Maybe you can inquire about the recent events on the Blood War Battlefield in Aphnas."
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to see the Undead Black Scripture." Leon says, standing up, thinking that although the space in his Sleeve of the Universe is large, he wouldn’t keep anything useless, especially those possessing great energy yet difficult to utilize.
Leon takes Laksha to the Treasure Vault, located in the castle on the mountain, guarded not only by salamanders but also with Salovis guest-starring, considering it as recycling waste.
Leon finds the Undead Black Scripture, placed prominently, picks it up and hands it to Laksha.
The ancient golden cover emits a piercing chill, causing Laksha’s hands to tremble as she holds the Undead Black Scripture, murmuring, "This is a legendary artifact, and a very powerful one... Are you sure there’s no problem giving it to me?"
"Usage rights, not ownership." Leon emphasizes, "As long as you’re working for me, it’s yours because it’s useless to me... I should mention, this book contains a wealth of dark knowledge you can study freely."
Laksha lightly runs her slender fingertips across the inscriptions on the Undead Black Scripture’s cover, recalling Leon’s recent words, now certain the promises are genuine, simultaneously understanding why so many dragons willingly submit to him, including Colorful Dragons and Metal Dragons... the money is real, the items are genuine, not a shred of deceit.
Unlike certain individuals, who only talk but don’t act.
"No, I can’t take it." Laksha suddenly pushes the Undead Black Scripture back to Leon.
"Why?" Leon asks, confused, "Even if you offered yourself, I wouldn’t want you, I’m not interested in your body, rest assured."
"It’s because you’re not interested in my body that I’m not at ease holding it." Laksha tightly clutches Leon’s collar, a blush spreading across her charming cheeks, somewhat awkwardly, "Well, rest assured, I’m a virgin, and I don’t have a rotten smell."
"Take me." Laksha says, "Take my treasure."
Leon’s expression twisted and asked, "Do you want it or not?"
"I do."
...
...
It was evening.
"How did your talk with Laksha go?" Cecilia asks, sitting on Leon’s lap, hugging his neck.
Leon recounts the entire afternoon’s events, and when he mentions Laksha returning the Undead Black Scripture, Cecilia can’t hold back a burst of laughter that sounds like a braying donkey.
"Pfft hahaha—" Cecilia laughs uncontrollably, rocking forward and backward, "Pulling out a legendary artifact right at the start... If it were me, I’d be uneasy too."
Leon presses his lips together, silent.
"However, the master did the right thing by not agreeing to her easily." Cecilia, accustomed to calling Leon master, swings her long, slender legs, "I’ve figured it out; now she’s craving the master. The untouchable stays agitated; what comes too easily feels cheap; we’re not going to be cheap men."
Leon glances sideways at Cecilia and raises his fist, making it crackle.
"Talk seriously. I’ve been thinking." Cecilia suddenly grows serious, "Laksha didn’t know the master beforehand, didn’t realize how generous the master is... she possesses considerable strength and could easily dominate a region, controlling a swamp or forest to exert her power, why did she choose to join the master?"
"Continue." Leon is not an arrogant Red Dragon who considers himself the best, thinking it’s only natural for someone to join him.
"I suspect she harbors ulterior motives." Cecilia says, "I’m preparing to test her."
"Feel free to test her." Leon says indifferently, "Anyway, if there’s a problem, it’s your own initiative."
"Yes, yes, our king is never wrong." Cecilia says, "It’s the ministers who are wrong."
