Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon’s Might
Chapter 87 - 87 87 Shopping
87: Chapter 87 Shopping 87: Chapter 87 Shopping Leon didn’t have much of a clue on how to dress more “fierce” to deter others from targeting him.
After pondering for a moment, he decided to don a chainmail over his coat and hang a sword at his waist.
Believe it or not, this trick seemed quite effective.
Leon noticed that the previously ill-intentioned glances from passersby had now significantly diminished.
Tassera had already mentioned staying here for a while, and with plenty of time, Leon wasn’t in a hurry to buy Mithril or refined gold, or any other Magic Items.
He planned to wander around first, thinking he’d check out the shops, but unexpectedly he spent most of his time observing people.
Races like Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Half-Elves were common and hardly worth mentioning, but encountering Centaurs and Aarakocra for the first time was truly novel for Leon.
“Sir, please, can you spare a little?”
“I haven’t eaten for a day.”
Leon saw a fat dog running across the street carrying a severed hand and noticed the destitute child beggars curled up in the corners, their clothes barely covering them.
As their gazes met, they began crowding around him.
They initially looked numb… Was it because he seemed approachable?
Leon wasn’t sure when he had become so cold-hearted.
Seeing those pitiable child beggars now did almost nothing to stir his emotions; he was merely disgusted subconsciously, thinking, “Please don’t dirty my clothes,” and wary that they might steal something.
Indeed, in a place like Crossroads City, where could you find simple and naive children?
What happened next was within Leon’s expectations.
Little hands reached towards his trousers, but of course found nothing… Compared to the robbers he had encountered not long ago, he was rather lenient this time, merely driving the child beggars away.
“You didn’t give them money, which is good.
Those kids are all part of the Orphan Gang.
Once you give them money, they’ll cling to you every day.” A thin Tiefling girl came up to Leon and reminded him, “Check if you’ve lost anything.”
“No need to check; nothing’s missing.” Leon’s belongings were all in his Sleeve of the Universe.
“That’s good, nothing’s lost.” The Tiefling girl followed Leon, pacing alongside.
“You must be new to Crossroads City… Do people as good-looking as you get into trouble too?”
“What trouble?” Leon said.
“I’m a good person, not a criminal, and certainly not here to evade trial.”
The Tiefling girl clasped her hands behind her head and walked backward in front of Leon, saying teasingly, “Don’t joke, sir.
Who would come to such a place if they hadn’t done something wrong?”
Leon thought about it and replied, “For instance, to buy things that can’t be bought elsewhere?”
“Then you’ve found the right person.” The Tiefling girl jumped up, patted her skinny chest, and said, “What do you want to buy, sir?
Poison, aphrodisiac, or slaves?
I know several places where you can get these things.”
“If you take me there and I buy something, will you get a kickback?” Leon asked curiously.
“You must be joking, sir.” The Tiefling girl replied.
“I just want to earn some money for showing the way…
one silver coin, and I’ll accompany you all day.”
“Not satisfied with kickbacks and still want money for guiding?” Leon raised an eyebrow.
“You’re quite greedy.”
Upon hearing Leon’s comment, the Tiefling girl froze for a moment until Leon walked ahead, then she hastily caught up and said, “You’re so smart; I can’t fool you.”
“Ha ha.” Leon laughed heartily, confident that no one could deceive him.
He immediately pulled out a silver coin from his sleeve and flicked it over, “Lead the way.”
The Tiefling girl jumped to catch the silver coin, her eyes narrowing with a smile, and asked, “Where would you like to go?”
“Just around.”
Following that, Leon started to stroll with the Tiefling girl.
He wasn’t short of money but didn’t want to be taken for a fool.
He didn’t follow the Tiefling girl into any store to shop but merely listened as she pointed out what goods were sold where, which stores had the coveted items, like an Ever-burning Blade, then at the end of an alley was a brothel, next to it a gambling den…
He had arrived in Crossroads City in the afternoon.
After a casual peek around, the sky began to darken, Leon sent away the Tiefling girl, and settled in a decent-looking inn planning to visit the Commercial District the next day.
It was somewhat surprising to Leon that nothing out of the ordinary occurred overnight.
He had already learned from the Tiefling girl how to get to the Commercial District, and today Leon didn’t need a guide; he easily found his way there.
“Do you think you can afford the prices for Mithril and refined gold?”
“No, there is no Mithril or refined gold.”
“If you can’t afford it, don’t touch.”
Leon visited several shops, but it turned out none had Mithril or refined gold for sale.
He had found a Magic Items store he wanted to explore properly, but the service attitude of the shopkeeper was extremely poor… If it hadn’t been for the fear of stirring up trouble in a city as dangerous as Crossroads City, he really thought of twisting off the shopkeeper’s head.
After another disappointing shop visit, Leon stepped outside and was halted.
“Noble sir, are you looking for Mithril and refined gold?”
Leon turned around to find a pretty maid calling to him and asked, “You have Mithril and refined gold?”
“I don’t.” The maid giggled, covering her mouth, then lightly lifted her skirt, “Do I look like I’d have those things?”
Leon chuckled and shook his head, asking, “So why did you stop me?”
“Although I don’t have them, my master does.” The maid said, “If you wish, maybe you can discuss with my master.”
“What about the price?” Leon was sensitive to the price.
Although he had plenty of money, buying ordinary items was easy, but he was not confident when it came to purchasing Mithril and refined gold… He had many Magic Weapons that, except for swords, he couldn’t use—perhaps he could trade those Magic Weapons for what he needed.
“I don’t know.” The maid shook her head, “You would have to ask our master.”
“What do you say?” The maid tilted her head, looking at Leon.
After thinking it over, with his abilities, Leon figured that even if he encountered an unbeatable enemy, escape would be easy.
Plus, he had checked with his Heavenly Eye Technique, and the maid didn’t appear abnormal… The minions of Ancient Black Dragons and Witch Demons wouldn’t have such a normal maid.
He said, “Alright, take me to your master.”
“This way, my lord.” The maid gestured for Leon to follow.
Leon followed the maid, little knowing that he had still underestimated Crossroads City.
“Another one.
Poor young man.”
This was the very shop Leon had been browsing earlier, where a middle-aged shopkeeper with a receding hairline stood by the window, mumbling to himself.
