"Spoken Law Follows?" the two women repeated in unison, questioning.

"Yes." Lin Bai adopted a faraway, wistful expression. "It’s the Righteous Door’s Sect-Defining Divine Skill. For ten thousand years, no one has ever mastered it. I want to try. And, I must tell you, I have not privately pledged myself to the City Lord."

Jiang Qingqin looked at Xu Longyun curiously.

Xu Longyun nodded helplessly, glaring at Lin Bai. Unwilling to dwell on the topic of private pledges, she steered the conversation back. "Who told you Spoken Law Follows was practiced that way?"

"My master, of course." Lin Bai knew Xu Longyun had overheard him spinning that tale to the Players; he needed to make it all sound plausible.

Taking a deep breath, Lin Bai said, "My master has immense hopes for me. That’s why, before I left, he imparted this Divine Skill to me, hoping I could become the first Cultivator in ten thousand years to master Spoken Law Follows and bring greater glory to the Righteous Door."

Xu Longyun looked at Lin Bai, her expression somewhat peculiar. It confirmed her suspicion: Lin Bai was indeed disliked by his master and had been kicked out of the Sect.

"Want to learn? You can train with me," Lin Bai said with a smile, looking at Jiang Qingqin.

"Me too?" Jiang Qingqin asked in surprise.

"No one has ever mastered it. Even though it’s a Sect-Defining Divine Skill of the Righteous Door, nobody in the Sect takes it seriously. With another person practicing, we’ll have more successful experiences to draw upon," Lin Bai said. "We can even exchange insights and what we’ve learned..."

"Alright," Jiang Qingqin agreed readily, her interest clearly piqued. "When you have time, tell me the method. I actually find your way of practicing quite interesting."

It was a soft and delicate voice. Lin Bai breathed a sigh of relief.

Well, it’s a female Fox Spirit, so it’s not too embarrassing. If it had been a male, I might have had to silence it for good.
