Chapter125

Chapter125

All along, she had always gone back by herself to keep her

grandfatherpany.

And that phone call just now-it was from Kelsey. She had heard olli/li/ol

Even though she was a bit far away, she still caught Kelsey’s

voice.

Understanding as always, Harriet made Ellsworth, phone in

hand, lower his gaze and just look at her.

Back when they had just gotten married, if he didn’te home

or ignored her, she would feel disappointed, and her eyes would

show her sadness.

But now, her eyes were calm and unruffled.

At this moment, she busied herself as if he wasn’t even part of

this home.

He just stood there watching Harriet until a message came in

on WhatsApp, snapping Ellsworth back to reality. He gathered

his things and left.

Chapter125

The bedroom door mmed shut. Holding the clothes she had

just folded, Harriet turned to nce toward the doorway.

She stared at the door for a while, then snapped out of it,

finished folding the clothes, tidied herself up, and drove home

to see her grandfather.

After having lunch with her grandfather at home, when the old

man next door came over to y chess, Harriet put on a hat

and went out to the yard to trim the flowers and nts.

Few young people would do this kind of work, but Harriet had

grown up with her grandfather, so whatever the old men could

do, she could too.

Just as she finished trimming a bonsai pine, her phone rang in

her pocket. She took it out and saw it was a call from Jolene.

Since leaving the Townsend Group, she hadn’t been in touch

with Jolene for some time.

Putting down her scissors, Harriet walked under the grape arbor

with her phone, swiped to answer, and greeted with a smile,

“Jolene, is there something you need?”

On the other end, Jolene’s voice sounded a bit aggrieved: “Ms.

Chavez, there’s something I’ve been thinking about for days. I

Chapter125

felt I should call you and report it to you.”

Holding the phone to her ear with her left hand and fanning

herself with her right, Harriet smiled and said, “Go ahead.”

Hearing Harriet’s warm voice, Jolene said, “Ms. Chavez, Mr.

Townsend is nning to hand over the acquisition of Voyage

Group to Rushtar Group. This is a big project, and it’s an

important one for thepany.”

“So I’ve been thinking about it for days, and I felt I should report

this to you, Ms. Chavez. If possible, could you try to persuade

Mr. Townsend? Ask him to reconsider the acquisition of Voyage

Group.”

Originally, thepany’s shareholders were all against it, but

after Ellsworth held a meeting, everyone agreed.

Jolene had worked with Harriet for years. She couldn’t swallow

this injustice on Harriet’s behalf, feeling that Ellsworth was too

biased, too protective of Kelsey, and didn’t respect Harriet as

his wife. That’s why she made this call.

After all, no matter what, Harriet was still Ellsworth’s wife and

held 10% of the Townsend Group’s shares.

Feeling Jolene’s indignation, Harriet took a few steps to the

side and, without showing any emotion, sat down on a stone

bench behind her-only to find it too hot to sit on, so she stood up again, smiling as she said, “Alright, I know about this. I’ll

think about how to talk to Ellsworth. Jolene, thank you for

letting me know.”

Harriet’s good temper only made Jolene more upset for her.

Jolene said sadly, “Ms. Chavez, you’re just too easygoing.

That’s why other women keep pushing their luck. Ms. Chavez,

please don’t be so nice anymore. Even if you don’t want to stay

married to Mr. Townsend, don’t make things so easy for other

women. You should make an agreement with Mr. Townsend so

he can’t keep protecting Rushtar Group like this.”

Jolene felt bad for her, and Harriet herself felt a bit bitter inside.

She said, “I understand. I’ll think of something.”

Seeing that Harriet was receptive, Jolene changed the subject

and gently asked, “Ms. Chavez, is there a position at Gxy

Innovations that I could handle? I don’t really want to stay at the

Townsend Group anymore. If possible, I’d like to continue

working as your secretary at Gxy Innovations.”

On this end, Harriet couldn’t help butugh. She said, “I can’t

afford a secretary at Gxy Innovations yet, but I can help you

look for other positions.”

Chapter125

“Alright, thank you, Ms. Chavez.”

After chatting for a while longer, the two finally hung up.

Now that Harriet was no longer vice president at the Townsend

Group, her conversations with Jolene felt more like those between friends.

Jolene’s true personality was starting to show a bit more.

Actually, she came from quite a background herself.
