Chapter126

After hanging up, Harriet nced at the flowers and nts she had just trimmed, then picked up her phone and chose a stone

bench that wasn’t hot from the sun to sit on.

Looking down at her phone, she couldn’t help but feel that over the past few years, she hadn’t just wronged herself-Jolene had

suffered a lot of grievances because of her too.

What she said earlier about finding a way to deal with Ellsworth

was just tofort Jolene.

Given her ce in Ellsworth’s heart, there was no way she could

control him.

Letting out a long sigh, Harriet opened WhatsApp and casually

scrolled through some unread group messages.

Sunlight filtered through the grape arbor, and a gentle breeze

brought a slight chill.

Ellsworth handing over Voyage Group acquisition to Kelsey was most likely topensate Rushtar Group for being kicked out

by Gxy Innovations and barred from the optoelectronics

project.

But… Rushtar Group was never really qualified for this project in

the first ce.

Opening Instagram, Harriet scrolled down indifferently-Kelsey

had posted something.

“Happy birthday, Grandpa! It’s so good to have you.”

The caption was as simple as ever, and after the closing line,

Kelsey added a very happy emoji.

Looking at Kelsey’s nine-photo grid, the lively scene at the

Graham’s vi, and Sir Graham’s beaming face, Harriet spotted

Ellsworth in those photos.

Out of the nine photos, several featured Ellsworth.

The one in the very center was a profile shot of Ellsworth.

Kelsey was a great photographer. With just a profile shot, she

made it look cinematic, making Ellsworth shine. Even though

she hadn’t captured his full face, Harriet recognized him

instantly-it was Ellsworth.

After loving him for so many years, no matter the crowd or the

Chapter126

corner, she could always spot Ellsworth at first nce.

It was almost instinctive for her.

Kelsey’s line, ‘It’s so good to have you, was probably meant for

Ellsworth.

Looking at Kelsey’s happiness and the lively Graham’s vi,

Harriet, phone in hand, nced back at her grandfather inside

the house.

The yard was quiet. Though her grandfather hadpany,

everything was peaceful-quiet conversation, quiet chess.

In all the years since their marriage, Ellsworth had rarelye

back to eat with her. Even on Ralph’s birthday, he never came

home for a meal.

He and Kelsey, and the Graham family, seemed more like a real

family.

Exiting WhatsApp, Harriet silently put her phone back on the

stone table beside her, picked up the pruning shears, and went

back to trimming the remaining trees.

After finishing up, she went to her room, took a shower, and

then took a nap.

Chapter126

She didn’t think about Jolene’s call, or Kelsey’s Instagram post,

nor did she call Ellsworth to ask about Voyage Group

acquisition.

Whether it was Ellsworth or the Townsend Group, she was just

someone unimportant.

She slept straight through to five in the afternoon before

waking up.

Rolling around in bed, still not wanting to get up, she hugged

her pillow and drifted off again.

On the sofa by the bed, Ellsworth sat nonchntly with his legs

crossed, reading a book. He had a great figure and an

especially handsome face.

The quiet at that moment made him seem like a character

straight out of aic book.

He nced at Harriet a couple of times, watching her toss and

turn in bed, pletely unaware of his presence. Ellsworth put

down his book and walked over to her.

Standing in front of Harriet, he bent down, reached out to touch

her forehead, and asked softly, “Why are you stillzing in bed these days?”

Chapter126

Ellsworth’s sudden greeting startled Harriet. She quickly opened

her eyes, pushed his hand away, and sat up in bed.

She straightened her pajamas, buttoned up the cor, looked at

Ellsworth, and asked gently, “Why are you here?”

It was Kelsey’s grandfather’s birthday today, and the evening

was sure to be lively. By rights, he should be at the Graham’s

vi at this hour.

Sitting down by the bed, Ellsworth asked, “Am I not allowed to

Harriet raised her hand to smooth her hair and said quietly,

“That’s not what I meant.”

At the moment, she was still half-asleep, her mind a bit foggy.

With her fair face, sleepy eyes, messy hair, and soft silk pajamas, Harriet made Ellsworth feel as if he had gone back to

years ago.

Back when they weren’t married yet, still in school.

Back then, Harriet always woke up in this slightly dazed state.

Staring at Harriet for a while, Ellsworth reached out, pinched her

Chapter126

chin to make her look at him, and gently stroked her jaw with

his thumb.

Outside, the wind rustled the leaves.

Ellsworth’s actions were intimate, and the atmosphere was

charged with ambiguity.
