Chapter153

Given Ellsworth’s personality, if he agreed to marry Harriet, he

shouldn’t be treating her like this. He would have handled

everything wlessly.

After all, Ellsworth was the smartest person she knew.

As Kathie analyzed him, Ellsworth just looked at her, cigarette between his fingers.

She might seem carefree most of the time, but her questions

were sharp.

Staring at Kathie for a while, Ellsworth suddenly said, “Keeping

things proper at home while ying around outside-what kind

of person do you take me for?”

Kathie: “Don’t change the subject. Answer my question.”

Outside the door, Harriet didn’t knock ore in; she just stood

there silently.

She hadn’t meant to eavesdrop-it was just an ident, just like

that time she overheard his conversation with Johnathan. Both

were idents.

Retracting her gaze and turning to leave, Harriet was just about to go when the servant’s voice suddenly came from behind:

“Mrs. Harriet Townsend, why are you standing here?”

Hearing the voice, Harriet quickly turned around and greeted

warmly, “Laney.”

At the sound of Harriet calling Laney, the conversation between

the siblings inside the room came to an abrupt halt.

Seeing this, Kathie hurried over to open the half-closed door

and looked at Harriet, saying, “Hara, are you done talking with

Grandpa?”

In response to Kathie’s question, Harriet stood at the bedroom

door, smiled, and said, “Yes.” Then added, “I just came up to get

something.”

Kathie: “Come in, my brother’s awake. You didn’t disturb him.”

“Okay.” Hearing Kathie’s words, Harriet replied and then entered

the room.

By the floor-to-ceiling window, Ellsworth heard Harriet’s

movements and turned to look toward the door.

Their eyes met. Seeing Harriet’s gaze fall on the cigarette in his

hand, Ellsworth snapped back to reality, quickly walked over to the coffee table, bent down, and stubbed out the half-smoked

cigarette in the ashtray.

Kathie watched Ellsworth put out his cigarette and was full of

disdain, sneering, “Ellsworth, you really have double standards.

Hara’s a woman, I’m a woman too. When I’m here, you smoke

without a care, but as soon as Haraes in, you put it out.”

“Fine, fine, Hara’s your real wife, I’m just picked up off the

street. I have nothing to do with you at all.”

“I’m leaving, I’m leaving. You two are family.”

With a sarcastic tone, Kathie rolled her eyes at Ellsworth,

pushed him aside, and left their bedroom, closing the door

behind her as she went.

As soon as Kathie left, the room fell silent.

Exceptionally quiet.

Even the faint smell of smoke was being filtered out by the air

purifier.

Ellsworth put both hands back in his pockets, his expression

calm and emotionless.

However, the whip marks on his face were still very visible, as

were the ones at his cor.

Harriet nced at him and said gently, “There’s something at thepany, I have to go work overtime. By the way, Dr. Fowler

wille by this afternoon to give you an injection, so make

sure to rest.”

When Harriet said she had to work overtime, Ellsworth gave her

a nonchnt look and said carelessly, “Reginald really doesn’t

hesitate to order you around.”

Harriet: “I’m the project manager, so of course I’m a bit busy.”

Back when she was at the Townsend Group, she was even

busier than now, working overtime day and night.

Harriet was always reasonable and polite, so Ellsworth didn’t

say anything more. He just walked over to the desk and turned

on hisputer.

In fact, he didn’t really want Harriet to work overtime. He wished

she could have more time and energy for her own life.

Seeing that he had nothing more to say, Harriet packed up, grabbed her car keys and phone, and left the Townsend

mansion.

Just now, Reginald had called her, and Jonas had called too. Jonas said that after Rushtar Group was rejected by Gxy Innovations, Kelsey had been in contact with Ventura Tech,

wanting to coborate on their home robotics project.

This meant their projects would be in directpetition.

Moreover, Kelsey made it clear that if Rushtar Group joined

Ventura Tech’s home robotics project, they had to outdo Gxy

Innovations, making sure their products couldn’t even make it

to market, with no advantages to speak of.

Harriet didn’t mention these work details to Ellsworth.

After all, who Kelsey wanted to work with was her own

business.

Besides, given their rtionship, Ellsworth probably already

knew about it.

But if Kelsey wanted to use Ventura Tech topete with

Gxy Innovations, Gxy Innovations would definitely rise to

the challenge.

With both hands on the steering wheel, Harriet’s mind was filled

with work matters.

As for the conversation between Kathie and Ellsworth in the

bedroom earlier, Harriet didn’t dwell on it, nor was she

particrly interested in the answer.
