Trying to push Ellsworth away, Harriet turned to get off the bed, but Ellsworth grabbed her ankle and pulled her back.

That pull made Harriet panic.

Even though she’d known him for so many years, was iso /ifamiliar with him, being handled so forcefully by him still made

Harriet a little afraid.

She kicked at him with both legs, trying to escape, and when her right hand randomly grabbed something, she didn’t think twice- she swung it at Ellsworth’s head.

The inext /isecond, the room fell silent.

Ellsworth’s movements stopped, and Harriet’s pleas for peace

also ceased.

Coming to her senses, she pulled away from Ellsworth’s arms and saw blood trickling from his forehead. Harriet’s face

changed instantly.

She hadn’t meant to hit him–she’d just panicked.

Chapter166

Quickly tossing aside the ornament in her hand, Harriet reached

out to touch Ellsworth’s forehead and asked softly, “Are you…

are you okay?”

As Harriet finished speaking, Ellsworth came to his senses too.

He wiped the blood from his forehead and looked at Harriet, his

voice gentle: “You really went for it.”

Harriet withdrew her hand from Ellsworth’s forehead, braced

herself on the bed, and said weakly, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

After apologizing, she got off the bed, picked up her clothes,

looked at Ellsworth for a moment, then quickly turned and went

to the next bedroom.

Closing the door, she leaned her back against it, looked up at

the ceiling, and let out a heavy sigh.

She hadn’t meant to hit him.

Meanwhile, in the master bedroom next door.

Thinking of Harriet’s panic just now, and how she even called

out ‘Ells,’ Ellsworth found it both funny and touching.

Chapter166

She was still exactly the same as before.

In fact, she hadn’t even used her full strength just now-

otherwise, he would have already had her.

But seeing her so flustered, so much like when she was a child,

he couldn’t help teasing her a little.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he wiped the blood from his

forehead, then got up, grabbed the first aid kit, and went to the

bathroom to treat his wound.

Without alerting Jacquelyn or the others, Ellsworth finished

treating his wound and changed the bedding.

After finishing all this, he went next door and knocked on

Harriet’s door. “Harriet, open the door.”

He added, “I scared you just now. I’m sorry. Open the door and

let me isee /iif your hand is hurt?”

Behind the idoor/i, Harriet nced back, then looked at her own

hand.

She wasn’t hurt.

Seeing that Ellsworth wasn’t angry and hade tofort

her, Harriet said tiredly, “My hand’s fine. I didn’t mean it just

now. Let me be alone for a while.”

The difference in strength was too great–she was still shaken.

Standing outside the door, Ellsworth coaxed her gently, “I’m not

mad at you. Open the door.”

Through the door, Harriet turned her head and said weakly, “I’m

not opening it. You should get some rest.”

Since Harriet still wouldn’t open the door, Ellsworth withdrew his

hand, put it back in his pocket, and said gently, “Then let’s talk

tomorrow.i” /i

Harriet replied perfunctorily, “Mm.”

After Harriet agreed to talk tomorrow, Ellsworth stood quietly at

the door for a while before turning and going back to his room.

He thought thating home every daytely would put an end

to the divorce, but he hadn’t expected Harriet to be so stubborn.

Standing by the floor–to–ceiling window in the bedroom, with a

white bandage on his forehead, Ellsworth took a deep drag on

his cigarette, flicked the ash, and exhaled a heavy smoke ring.

He was tired, too.

The next morning, by the time Ellsworth was ready, Harriet had

already left the house.

So, after a simple breakfast at home, Ellsworth drove to the

office.

He had just stepped into his office when Noel came in to report,

“Mr. Townsend, Ms. Graham is here.”

Noel had barely finished speaking when Kelsey pushed open

the office door, greeting him with a bright smile. “Ells.”

When she saw the bandage on Ellsworth’s forehead, Kelsey immediately grew anxious and asked with concern, “Ells, what happened ito /iiyour /iforehead?”

Ellsworth, holding a document, nced at her indifferently. “It’s

nothing.”

At that moment, Noel closed the door and left.

Seeing this, Kelsey walked up to Ellsworth and asked him a few more questions out of concern. After making sure he was really

fine, she said, “I’m here for a meeting about the second

project.”

Then Kelsey asked, “Ells, have you made a decision about

investing in Ventura Tech? Mr. Melton has been asking me

when we can officially sign the contract.”

The Ventura Tech project Kelsey mentioned was the same

home robotics project as Harriet’s.

If Ellsworth invested in this project, he would be directly ppeting with Harriet.
