Chapter167

At Kelsey’s inquiry, Ellsworth nonchntly flipped through the

documents in his hand and said in a calm ivoice/i, “I’ve already

had Noel turn it down.”

Across the desk, Kelsey’s back instantly straightened. She

looked at Ellsworth in surprise and asked, “Ells, why? The Ventura Tech project is quite promising, and it’s already

reached a certain stage. All it needs now is further funding. This

is an opportunity.”

Seeing Kelsey’s astonished expression, Ellsworth unhurriedly

put down the documents in his hand and looked up at her.

He gazed at Kelsey with a cool expression and asked coldly,

“You want to know why?”

Seeing that Ellsworth wouldn’t invest in the project, Kelsey grew

anxious and asked, “Is it because of Hara? But this has little to

do with Hara. She’s doing her research, we’re making our

investments. Both projects can make money. We’re just investors, not the ones doing the technical work.”

Before Ellsworth could respond, Kelsey continued, “Ells, this is

Chapter167

just business. Aren’t businesspeople supposed to focus on business? Isn’t profit the priority? I think you’re inot /ibeing

rational about this.”

Kelsey’s self–assured tone made Ellsworth’s gaze grow even

colder.

Looking at Kelsey with indifference, he said coldly, “She’s my

wife.”

At Ellsworth’s words–‘my wife‘–Kelsey was stunned as she

looked at him.

Clutching her bag with both hands, Kelsey stared at Ellsworth

for a long time before she finally came to her senses and

realized the weight of his words.

Swallowing, she said weakly, “Ells, actually…”

Before Kelsey could finish, Ellsworth cut her off directly: “Kelsey,

there’s nothing more to discuss. The Townsend Group will not

invest in Ventura Tech. Any project thatpetes with Harriet,

the Townsend Group will not invest in.”

When Kelsey first approached him about this, he had already

said it wasn’t appropriate and handed the matter over to Noel.

Chapter167

He thought Kelsey would be able to read the situation and back

off, but to his surprise, she was still unwilling to give up and

wanted to persuade him.

So now, he couldn’t be bothered to waste words with her and

made his stance even clearer.

With Ellsworth cutting her off so directly and making his

position so clear, Kelsey stared at him for a while, unable to

speak.

She looked at Ellsworth for a long time, lost in thought, before

finally speaking.

With a hint of sadness in her eyes, she looked at Ellsworth and

asked softly, “Then what about Sylvia? What does she mean to

you?”

When Kelsey brought up Sylvia, Ellsworth looked at her again.

Looking at that face identical to Sylvia’s, seeing the hurt in her

eyes, Ellsworth recalled many things from the past.

Things from when Sylvia was still around.

He remembered that ident, and how Sylvia had saved him.

Chapter167

He stared at Kelsey for a moment without moving, then said

impassively, “She’s the past.”

Kelsey let out augh, looked straight at Ellsworth, and said

with a smile, “Ells, stop lying to yourself. If iyou /ireally let igo /iof

Sylvia, why would you do so much for the Graham family? Why

would you still meet with me so often? Why would iyou /iicare /iiso /i

much about my health?”

“Everyone can see what you’ve done for the Graham family.”

At this point, Kelsey changed the subject: “Alright, I didn’t think

through the Ventura Tech matter. I was just focused on the fact that high–tech projects are profitable, so I cared about it so

much.”

“Even though I don’t think it would affect Hara much, if you

don’t want to invest, that’s fine.”

After expressing her stance, Kelsey leaned forward and gently

took Ellsworth’s hand. “I’ll go to the meeting first. How about we

have lunch together at noon?”

Kelsey was smart, good at reading faces, and knew how to

keep the peace.

Picking up the documents on the desk, Kelsey’s hand naturally

slipped away from his. Ellsworth said, “Let’s talk at noon. Go to

your meeting first.”

Ellsworth didn’t bring up the previous topic again. Kelsey

chatted with him with a smile for a bit, then got up and left.

At the door, as she gently closed it behind her, Kelsey couldn’t

help but look back.

Thinking of Ellsworth’s words just now–‘she’s my wife‘–her expression dimmed, and she looked utterly deste.

Harriet is his wife, so what is she?

She had waited for him for so long–what did that make her?

Looking sadly at Ellsworth’s office, her right hand gently left the

doorknob, and in the end, she turned and left.

Ellsworth belonged to him, to the Graham family.
