She had never been like this at parties.

Though he had always treated her as invisible, her attention

would still be entirely on him.

She’d wait till he noticed her and cast a nce at her mercifully.

But now, she wouldn’t be that humble anymore.

He could sit next to whoever, ugh with whoever. She simply

no longer gave a damn.

Like him, she also became an outsider in their own rtionship.

For the rest of the dinner, she didn’t even nce at him, let

alone speak with him.

When it was past 10:00 p.m., the dinner party was over.

Johnathan invited everyone to a club to continue the fun.

If not for the fact that Kathie and Harriet were here, he would

have taken the group somewhere more exciting. A strip club,

perhaps.

The group of people went downstairs, and Harriet took the

elevator Ellsworth wasn’t in.

Soon, the elevator reached the first floor. Stepping out, she

bumped into him.

Their eyes met. Like always, he still had his hands in his

pockets, his face expressionless. She smiled at him as a mere

courtesy.

He asked, his voice t, “Did Kat drive you here?”

Harriet nodded. “Yes.””

After a pause, she added, “Kat had some wine during dinner, so

I’ll driveter.”

She wasn’t surprised to run into Ellsworth at the elevators.

But him starting a conversation with her? That she hadn’t seen

If it were before, he would have pretended that he hadn’t seen

her at all, let alone talk to her.

“Hara? Hara? Where are you?”

Just then, Kathie’s voice rang out ahead.

“Coming,” Harriet responded, raising her voice. Then she looked

at Ellsworth and said, “Kat’s waiting for me. I’ll head over to

her.”

After saying this, she walked away without waiting for his

response.

She no longer had any lingering attachments to him.

In the past, when he started a conversation with her, she’d be

over the moon. But that wouldn’t happen again.

She used to love him so humbly, even at the cost of her own

pride.

Ellsworth stood in ce as he watched her retreating figure. He

wondered-when did she start pulling away from him? When

did she stop even bothering to keep up the act?

?

“Ells? What’s wrong?” Stepping out of the elevator, Darrick

spotted Ellsworth, who stood still like a statue, and called out to

him. Darrick’s voice snapped Ellsworth out of it, and he quickly

withdrew his gaze, turned to Darrick, and said casually,

“Nothing.”

Together, they walked toward the hotel entrance. Chatting with Darrick, Ellsworth temporarily put Harriet out of his

mind.

Soon, they arrived at the club. Harriet still sat next to Kathie,

whereas Ellsworth took the seat beside Darrick.

Brittany had been making advances tonight, but Ellsworth

seldom responded.

In the left corner of the private room, Kathie dragged Harriet to

y games with her and a few others. Though Harriet didn’t

know the rules, she tried to keep up.

“Harriet, if you lose again, you’ll have to drink.”

“Harriet, you’re some at games.”‘

She always lost, which was quite amusing and embarrassing.

Perhaps she really had no talent in gaming.

Meanwhile, Ellsworth was chatting with Darrick. Out of the

corner of his eye, he nced over at Harriet asionally.

Seeing her take her penalty drinks with a frown, he was a bit

stunned-was this really the Harriet he knew?

She was always rigid at home, having no fun at all. Yet now, she

was like an entirely different person.

Little did he know she wasn’t naturally rigid and conservative.

She only acted like this because she was thepany’s VP and

his wife-she couldn’t afford any misstep.

Ellsworth’s phone rang while the private room was filled with

Taking the chance, he stepped out to the balcony garden for

some fresh air.

After hanging up, he turned around and saw Johnathan, who

was also out to answer a call.
