Chapter38

Inside the room, Ellsworth was looking at Kelsey, who was

already asleep in bed. He said, “It’s nothing”

Standing outside the door, Harriet was instantly shocked. She

hadn’t expected to run into Ellsworth here. No wonder he’d

beening homete these days-so Kelsey was sick.

It was as if her legs were filled with lead as she stood at the

door, watching Ellsworth care deeply about Kelsey’s condition,

watching him listen intently to Alicia.

That kind of seriousness had never happened with her.

Finally, she saw Ellsworth, in front of Alicia, slowly lean down

toward Kelsey.

It looked like he was kissing her.

Lowering her gaze, Harriet’s eyshes trembled.

She turned and walked away quietly, without a sound.

Back in the hospital room, Harriet couldn’t sleep at all. She sat

by the bed, resting her face in her palm, staring at Ralph, and

found herself thinking of Ellsworth again and again.

Holding Ralph’s hand, Harriet massaged his fingers. Suddenly,

the door to the hospital room was pushed open.

Harriet looked up and saw Ellsworthing in. She was

instantly stunned.

Even more stunned than before.

Kicking her chair back as she stood up, Harriet quickly got to

her feet and asked him in surprise, “Why are you here?”

At this moment, Harriet truly hadn’t expected Ellsworth to

remained indifferent in response to Harriet’s reaction.

He had just received a call from Johnathan, who told him that

Harriet’s grandfather had fainted at home that afternoon and

was now in the hospital.

As soon as Ellsworth heard this, his expression immediately

darkened.

He hadn’t known. No one had told him about it.

Later, when he called home to ask, it turned out that everyone else already knew, everyone hade to visit, except for him-it was Johnathan who finally told him.

Ellsworth looked rather upset. Harriet nced down at Ralph, then quickly reported to him, “Grandpa is fine. He woke up this afternoon, all the tests are done, and he’s just sleeping now. There’s nothing to worry about, you can go take care of your

own things.”

She knew Ellsworth wouldn’t be worried about Ralph; she was

just being polite.

Judging by his expression, he was probably annoyed that

someone had told him, and now he had to take time away from

Kelsey toe here.

Forget it.

He should just hurry back to Kelsey. If Grandpa woke up and

saw how reluctant he was, it would only make him feel worse.

Entering the hospital room, Ellsworth nced at Harriet

indifferently and said, “It’ste at night, what am I supposed to be busy with?”

Harriet just looked at Ellsworth, taking in his indifference.

She looked at him for a while, but didn’t call him out on it. She simply said coolly, “Then have a seat.”

With that, she sat back down herself.

She hadn’t called him over, but she couldn’t be bothered to

argue with him.

If he wanted to show her a bad attitude, so be it. There wouldn’t

be many more days like this anyway.

Harriet ignored him, and Ellsworth assumed she was ming him foringte, which only made him more frustrated.

It was she who hadn’t told him what was going on.

Pulling out the chair opposite Harriet, Ellsworth sat down

without a word. He didn’t y with his phone either, just

looked at Harriet with a cold expression.

Harriet didn’t look at him. She continued to hold Ralph’s hand,

silently watching over him.

She was no longer like before, when being alone with Ellsworth

would make her nervous and she would focus all her attention

on him.

The hospital room was very quiet.

After a long silence, Ellsworth finally spoke in a low voice,

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Even though their marriage wasn’t good, with Ralph in the

hospital, she still should have told him so he coulde to the

hospital in time.

At Ellsworth’s question, Harriet turned to look at him, not quite

understanding what he meant.

She looked at him for a moment, then understood what he was

referring to and said, “Oh.”

She added, “When I got here, Grandpa was already awake. It

didn’t seem serious, so I didn’t tell you.”

When she texted him, he didn’t reply. When she called, he

didn’t answer. How was she supposed to tell him?

Should she call Noel and have Noel pass on the message? Ask

Forget it.

They were about to get divorced anyway; there was no need to

go out of her way and make herself unwee.

These thoughts, Harriet only kept to herself and didn’t say out

loud.
