“After all these years, let’s leave each other with some dignity. It’s also thest bit of self-respect I can give myself.”

That night, she had overheard their conversation and even tangled with Ellsworth-she couldn’t bring herself to do that.

Besides, she had never nned to go after his assets from the start.

What’s more, Ellsworth had saved her before. She wouldn’t make things difficult for him, and she wouldn’t let the things he worried about happen.

Across the table, Johnathan stared at Harriet for a while before saying, “If you ever need anything, remember toe to me or Darrick.”

Harriet nodded, “Okay.”

Soon after, the two finished their meal, and Johnathan drove

Harriet back to thepany.

But he still couldn’t figure out how Harriet and Ellsworth had

ended up like this.

Their rtionship used to be pretty good, and Harriet had really

liked Ellsworth.

But after getting married, they had be like enemies,

Marriage really is a grave-the grave of any rtionship. After looking at each other for too long, resentment is inevitable.

When the car stopped downstairs, Johnathan didn’t go up.

He watched Harriet walk into thepany, then started his car

and drove back to his own office.

Back in her office, Harriet threw herself into her work again.

By the time she finished her tasks, it was alreadyte. Harriet

went to the Chavez’s mansion to visit her grandfather, then

drove back to Auburn Heights.

She wanted to stay longer with her grandfather, but her

movements affected the interests of the Townsend Group, so

she went back.

After all, the paperwork wasn’t done yet.

By the time she got home, it was already ten o’clock at night.

Patsy was still awake, waiting for her.

“Hara, you’re back. How’s Grandpa doing these past couple of days? Is he better?”

Changing her shoes, Harriet replied, “Much better. Mom, you

don’t have to wait up for me. You should rest early.”

Patsy took her bag and handed it to Jacquelyn, saying unhurriedly, “It’s not thatte. I can still chat with you when you get back.”

At this, Patsy leaned in close to Harriet, reporting in a secretive

tone, “Ells is back too. He came home after six and had dinner

here. I guess now that I don’t live here anymore, he’s behaving

himself.”

“Men need to be managed, Hara. You’re usually too easygoing. If you show a bit of temper, Ells will definitely listen to you. Just look at how well he’s behavedtely.”

While praising Ellsworth, Patsy was actually trying to persuade

Harriet not to get divorced, hoping she’d give her son another

chance.

Harriet listened and smiled, “He really cares about you, Mom.”

Since a birth certificate wasn’t needed for the divorce, Harriet

And if they dragged it out for a few more years and still had no

children, the whole Townsend family would be caught in the

middle, making things even harder.

Her insistence on divorce now was also to spare them trouble

in the future and to cut her losses in time.

Harriet was gentle and obedient, so Patsy continued, “Hara, if

you’re going to visit Grandpa again tomorrow, let Ells go with

you.”

Harriet smiled and said, “Sure.”

She agreed to Patsy, but it was just lip service.

After chatting with Patsy downstairs for a while, Harriet went

back to her bedroom once Patsy returned to her room.

When she opened the door, Ellsworth wasing out of the

bathroom, rubbing his hair.

Seeing this, Harriet greeted him gently, “You’re still up?”

Ellsworth replied indifferently, “Yeah.”

Sensing Ellsworth’s low spirits, Harriet exined, “I went to see

Grandpa.”

Maybe because Ellsworth was always so cold and never looked

at her directly, Harriet still felt a bit intimidated by him.

Whenever they ran into each other, she would take the initiative

to speak.

Ellsworth still just gave a faint “Mm.”

Since Ellsworth wasn’t very warm, Harriet looked away, took her

clothes, and went to the bathroom.

A little whileter, when Harriet came out of the bathroom,

Ellsworth was already sitting on the bed reading.

Seeing that he had left a spot for her, Harriet quietly sat down

beside him.

At that moment, Ellsworth put down his book, turned to Harriet,

and said gently, “Let’s have a child before the end of the year.”

Just about to go to sleep, Harriet was startled by Ellsworth’s

words and turned to look at him.
