Chapter47

As soon as she finished speaking, her stomach rumbled again.

With all this fuss, Ellsworth lost interest.

He buttoned up her pajama top and got off her.

Seeing this, Harriet breathed a sigh of relief.

Propping herself up on the bed, she sat up and said, “I’m going

downstairs to find something to eat. You rest first.”

Ellsworth nced at her indifferently. Seeing how rxed she

looked, he got up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and lit

a cigarette for himself.

As smoke curled upward, Harriet opened the bedroom door and

made her escape.

She thought to herself, she needed to find an excuse to get his

mother back to the Townsend’s mansion. Otherwise, if

something really happened between the two of them, things

would only get moreplicated.

When she got to the kitchen and started rummaging through

the fridge, Ellsworth, lookingzy, came downstairs as well.

Seeing him approach, Harriet asked, “Are you hungry too?”

Ellsworth ignored her, walked straight to the fridge, took out

some braised beef and eggs, and then turned on the stove.

As Ellsworth went through a series of actions, Harriet stood by

and watched him busy himself.

Dressed in gray pajamas, Ellsworth had a great figure.

With practiced movements, he sliced the beef, put noodles in

the pot, and finally added the beef, eggs, and some greens.

Harriet watched in astonishment from the side, not expecting

Ellsworth to know how to cook.

More than ten minutester, Ellsworth brought the cooked

noodles to the dining table. Seeing Harriet still standing at the

kitchen door, he turned and asked in a calm voice, “Not hungry

anymore?”

Harriet: “You cooked this for me?”

Ellsworth casually stabbed a fork into the noodles, his gaze still

fixed on her.

Seeing this, Harriet walked over to the table and sat down.

After taking a couple of bites, just as she was about to

In a t tone, he said, “Once you finish the noodles, go have the

baby.”

Harriet jerked her head up.

She stared at Ellsworth for a long moment, then silently put down her fork. “I’m not hungry anymore.”

To eat a bowl of his noodles and then have to give him a child-

what a terrible deal.

Loungingzily with his legs crossed, Ellsworth was amused. He said, “Hurry up and eat, I was just teasing you.”

Harriet looked at him but still didn’t dare pick up her fork.

Ellsworth slowly put away his smile. “My words don’t work on

you anymore?”

Only then did Harriet pick up her fork and continue eating.

Across the table, Ellsworth watched Harriet with a calm expression. Seeing her eat in silence, he nced at the ring on

his own ring finger.

Finally, he looked back at Harriet with the same indifferent

gaze.

The next day at lunch, when Harriet was eating with Kathie, she

told her about what had happened the night before.

After hearing it, Kathie said with disdain, “Looks like my mom is

really putting pressure on Ells. Not only does hee home

every day, he’s even starting to coax you.”

She then asked, “Hara, so what are you thinking now?”

Resting her chin in her hand and looking at Kathie across the

table, Harriet said weakly, “This day was bound toe sooner

orter. It’s better to just cut the Gordian knot. And now, I’m

actually a little afraid of Ellsworth. I used to look forward to him

Talking about Ellsworth, Harriet thought again of the ring on his

ring finger-the same ring as Kelsey’s.

Forget it.

Chapter47

They should just let it go.

So, in the days that followed, Harriet deliberately avoided.

Ellsworth, going to bed early every night while he was in the

shower.

Ellsworth didn’t seem to care, busying himself with his own

affairs.

That afternoon, after Harriet finished a meeting and returned to

her office, Jolene handed her an invitation. “Ms. Chavez, this is

the invitation for this year’s Business Exchange Summit, from

the 24th to the 2nd, at Rockville Resort.”

Taking the invitation from Jolene, Harriet said gently, “Alright,

please book my flight.”

“Yes, Ms. Chavez.”

That afternoon, Ellsworth also received an invitation, but he

didn’t mention it to Harriet or suggest they go together.

Meanwhile, at the Townsend’s mansion, Keh came home for vacation, and Patsy stayed at Auburn Heights for two days.

before packing up and leaving.

The day after Patsy left, Ellsworth didn’te home.

Chapter47

When Harriet returned, she looked at the empty room and felt

both amused and helpless.

Still, she was d she hadn’t wavered in the past few days.

Late at night, all was quiet.

Harriet had just fallen asleep when the bedroom door was

opened.
