CHAPTER 23: DEVISING A PLAN TO DEATH

"What are you doing here?"

I studied her outfit. She was dressed in that mid-thigh length white gown I had once gotten her.

"This is the Omega’s territory," she said, and then realization dawned on me. This was the east wing of the Pack. The woods near the Omega’s quarters.

"Do you know her?" the servant asked me.

"Y-yes. She—she is an old friend. You can go ahead, I won’t be long."

"Alpha Dawn has instructed me not to let you out of my sight."

From the corner of my eye, I saw Sable shift uncomfortably at the mention of Alpha Dawn.

"Please, I won’t stay out of sight. I just need a moment with her."

The servant gave a short nod and walked past me, heading towards the Range Rover, leaving me alone with Sable.

I turned to face Sable. She wasn’t smiling.

"Are you angry with me?"

She raised a brow. "Angry? Why should I be?"

"I mean... this is really your dream, and I didn’t mean to steal it from you."

"Okay."

I paused for a beat. "Aren’t you going to ask how I became the Alpha’s breeder?"

"I’m not curious. You seem to be having a lot of fun without me."

I wish I was...

"I’m not. As a matter of fact, I’m looking for means to escape."

"You don’t seem to be," Sable shot back. "You even get to visit the Alpha’s cabin. That is not the move of someone who wants to escape."

I grabbed her hand. "Sable, I swear on my life, I didn’t mean to betray you like this—"

She jerked her hand away. "Gideon told me everything. He didn’t exclude how the Alpha killed Ian because he didn’t want to share you."

My heart skipped.

"Let’s pretend like we don’t know each other from henceforth. It’s better that way."

"Sable, we’ve been friends for ten years now. I can’t let this go because of a title I don’t even want."

"Bambi, stop acting like you care. Cut it off already."

I sighed. Then, right there, an idea slipped into me. I grabbed Sable’s hand again.

"Do you still wish for this title?"

She frowned, looking confused.

"I mean, do you still wish to be the Alpha’s breeder?"

"Do you have a solution?"

I nodded. "But we can’t discuss it here because of—" I jabbed my chin at the servant seated in the Range Rover and the two men guarding the car. "So, let’s meet later today."

She blinked. "How?"

"Come to the Pack house."

"How do I do that? An Omega can’t gain access to the Pack house."

"Ask Gideon. He’ll pull strings to help you get in. Also, tell him it’s very important so he can get into action immediately."

She nodded. "Are you sure about this?"

"I am more than sure. This has been your dream, and I can’t live it even if I wanted to. Also—" I looked back at the guards to ensure they weren’t listening. "I don’t like the Alpha. I can’t stand him."

A tiny smirk appeared on her face. "I was afraid you’d be swayed by his good looks. I’m glad you weren’t."

I was. I was not only swayed by his good looks but his charm. I was merely resisting. I could say it was a love-hate feeling towards him. I hated him just as much as I loved the idea of being with him. It was complicated.

"Do you think I might be the Alpha’s type?"

The question caught me off guard. "I’m not sure. But I’m sure he would like you. Don’t worry."

She smiled shyly. "Thank you." Then she suddenly wrapped her arms around me, hugging me tightly. "I can’t wait to finally meet the Alpha."

I broke the hug. "I have to go. I’ll see you in the evening."

I turned around and rushed towards the Range Rover. One of the men opened the door for me to hop in. Before I did, I gave Sable one last glance. She was waving excitedly. I waved back and climbed inside.

I received a message on my new phone as soon as I settled in my bedroom. It was from Gideon. He had told me he was on it. And that Sable was on her way. A few hours later, Sable arrived, dressed in the disguise of a Pack’s servant.

She paused by the door after she stepped in, closed it behind her, and gawked at the bedroom interior.

"All these just for the Alpha’s breeder?" she mused.

"It’s not like I want it anyway."

She eyed me. "Liar. No sane person wouldn’t want this. Especially as an Omega."

She rushed to the bed and threw herself on it, bouncing. "Imagine this being all mine. Plus seeing the Alpha and having sex with him. That would be the best thing to ever happen to me."

I swallowed. "Which is why you are here for me to devise a plan to make it possible."

She sat up. "Right. What is the plan?"

I walked to her and sat on the bed beside her. "We swap."

She frowned. "How is that possible? Won’t he notice?"

"He would, of course. He is very smart."

She frowned again. "How do you know that about him?"

"Calm down. Don’t be jealous. It is something very noticeable."

She pouted. "I get jealous very easily. I don’t like people knowing too much about my man."

I flinched at her calling Alpha Dawn "my man."

"So, what we are going to do is that I’d pretend to be dead and I would have no other choice than to be replaced with the help of the Pack’s committee members. About your identity, we can figure that out. But first, I have to fake my death to—"

"Wait," she interrupted. "Why must you fake your death in order to have you replaced? Why can’t you just opt out?"

Because I tried doing that and he stubbornly refused. Because he is obsessed with me. I couldn’t tell her that.

"It is the better option," I said. "There would be no contemplation once they are all informed I’m dead. They’d instantly go to finding a replacement as soon as my fake death is announced."

She nodded.

"So, what is going to happen is you are acting as my cousin—"

A loud knock on my door interrupted me. My heart lurched.

I looked toward the door just as the knock came again.

I got up and walked to it, pressing my ear against the wood. "Who is it?"

A pause from the other side, and then, "It is I, Alpha Dawn."
