CHAPTER 49: 49

NYLAH

I’d been in Xavier’s chambers since last night, and he has had me nonstop since then. Even when I am exhausted from the multiple orgasms, once he touches my body, my sore pussy yearns for more.

He promised to pound me into a pathetic mess and he was doing just about that.

I thought that was how we were going to continue the day but he got a call from the warriors to inspect something.

Now, alone in his chambers, the events of the previous day replayed in my head. And I became so worried not that I wasn’t worried initially. The activities with Xavier just distracted me.

It was Sofia,

She heard the shocking news of her life. Her mother for years was not her biological mother. Worse, I did what she was supposed to do. Although she acted cool about it on the outside, I knew she was bleeding on the inside.

Without any more thoughts, I sprang up from the bed, I was naked as the day I was born and dashed into the bathroom.

I threw on a simple dress, Xavier had the maids bring a few of my things to his chambers that morning when I told him I needed to go back to my room.

I left his chambers and went to the first place I thought Sofia would be on a sunny day, the hospital.

But I didn’t find her there so I went to my room, she wasn’t there either. After searching around with futility, I went to the garden and saw Sofia seated by the garden with a big book on her lap.

She was humming a nice melody.

"This is the best place to stay on a sunny day," I spoke from behind her, and she almost jerked. She turned around and saw me, although I didn’t expect, but a small smile crept up her lips.

"You’ve been locked up with the Alpha since yesterday, huh?" She teased and smiled shyly.

"He insisted I stayed in his chambers. If that makes it any better." I replied.

She had a knowing smile on her face.

"Or you were busy taking his dick you didn’t think of coming out."

"Oh shit!" I exclaimed and cupped my face with my hands in shame.

We both laughed it off, and I sat beside her, our faces serious now.

"About the news concerning your mother..." I started, but Sofia shrugged slightly.

"I’m so sorry about that," I said, meaning it.

"I reject the position of the hospital’s overseer. I recommended you to the Alpha while I was in there, and he promised to give it a thought." I said, but Sofia smiled.

I didn’t understand her smile, but I reciprocated it.

"It’s fine, Nylah, really, it is." She started, making me confused.

She was hurt. Why was she saying it’s fine?

"It’s not fine, Sofia. I know that you’re hurt. The right thing to do is take over your late mother’s position. Biological daughter or not. You learned from her while she was still here, so you can still do it." I said

"It’s not like that, Nylah. Only a true healer can heal. Only one born of a healer can heal. Even though I take over the hospital, there are still some things I will not be able to do. Like what you did that day with the leaves. Only a healer can do that." I sighed.

"That’s not nice. It’s unfair!" I blurted, but Sofia laughed at me.

"That is the way it should be. There is no point in being a healer if I can’t heal the people. And to be sincere, I am happy my friend is the one with the powers. I can take any position in the hospital." She replied, and we laughed at her words.

It felt good to hear her say the words and to confirm that she wasn’t angry or sad about it.

"I’m sorry once again about your mom. I know she loved you, though. Everyone knows this." I remarked.

Even though she wasn’t her mother’s biological child, her mother loved her so much, and that was all that mattered to me.

"Yeah, thanks. I kinda had the feeling that she wasn’t my mom then, but I didn’t pay attention to it, and she didn’t let me." Sofia replied.

"Come on, let’s go grab lunch. I’m starving." She stood from the chair and pulled me along.

"Me too!" I giggled and followed her lead.

I was starving as well. Xavier and I had a marathon that morning, and we didn’t get to eat before he got called out, and I decided to see Sofia so I could eat s bull.

We got to the pack’s kitchen and filled our plates with food. The girls who used to bully me were in the kitchen, but they acted like they didn’t see me.

Their heads remained bowed, probably from shame.

Good radiance.

While Sofia and I ate in my room, it struck me, and I started to ask myself some questions that terrified me.

’Why do I have such powers in the first place? I don’t even know about wolves and stuff. Hell, I had no idea packs existed. I was just a normal lady, living in the human world before I got dragged into all of this. And now I suddenly have a power a she-wolf from the pack is supposed to have.’

"What is going on?" Sofia asked, sensing my change in countenance.

"I need to see the elders," I said and excused myself immediately.

Sofia followed, mainly to confirm that I was okay.

"I have a question," I announced when I got there. The elders slowly looked up at me.

"What is it, young one?" One of them asked.

"Why do I have the powers of a healer? I am supposed to be an ordinary girl. I was an ordinary lady before I came here. What is going on?" I asked, getting scared by the minute.

The elders exchanged glances before one of them finally decided to speak.

"I’m sorry, young one, we have no explanation for that. Maybe there was a healer amongst your ancestors who passed it to you. Apart from that, there is no other explanation." She announced with a solemn expression.

I rubbed my temples with my fingers, but just then, a loud ringing of a bell sounded in our ears.

"What is that?!" I asked, alarmed, my hands covering my ears.

"It’s the Alpha. He is about to make an announcement." Sofia explained.

"The bell is to gather us for the announcement." She added and made her way to the assembly ground where other people were lined up.

After a huge number of pack members were out, Alpha Xavier began.

"As you all know, we were victorious in yesterday’s war because we did something we had long forgotten, and we have one person to thank for that." He paused, his eyes searched through the crowd until he saw me.

"Come up." He beckoned.

I turned around, my hands on my chest, my heart beating rapidly.

What was he doing?

I slowly climbed the platform.

"She reminded us of the gift we have, and with her help, we were able to use it to defeat the enemy. And for that reason, she will be the pack’s doctor from now henceforth! I, Alpha Xavier, command it." The crowd cheered and clapped to my surprise.

I didn’t smile or laugh, I was terrified. How will Sofia feel about this?

I searched the crowd for her, and my heart melted when I saw her cheering amongst the crowd.

Our eyes met, and she shot me a reassuring smile.

I nodded and waved to the crowd. I wasn’t alone anymore. I now had a purpose and a friend.
