The Alpha's Stripper Mate: Sold To Be His.
Chapter 68
CHAPTER 68: 68
Xavier
He coughed severely before trying to sit up.
"Did it work? Did it work?" The guards whispered behind me but I just watched without a reply.
"Help him up." I instructed and they helped him to sit up.
He looked drained like all his strength had been sucked out of him. He didn’t look any different when I first met him so I wouldn’t say that the plant of life is responsible for that.
"Get him water and some food." Brian who noticed the same thing, instructed the guards and they left the hall.
He walked to me, leaning close. So close that it caught the attention of everyone in the room.
"Are you going to believe what he says?" He asked in a whisper which I thought was unnecessary because he could have used the mind link and no one would know we were discussing.
I shrugged at his question and replied through the mind link.
"Let’s see what happens after he eats and gets himself back. He said he has more information."
Brian nodded slowly but his face lightened up like a bulb turned on in his mind.
"Did the plant of life work? Did it clear up his chest?" He asked aloud.
His question made everyone cast glances at the man whose head was bowed and who looked like he was asleep or so weak to even look up.
"Check it out." Brian called out and two guards stepped forward and raised his shirt.
The black debt that had been growing to his neck looking like a root growing without stopping from a source now looked faded but some traces were still there.
"Is it still healing?" One of the guards asked in awe.
I hadn’t seen anything like that before. I hadn’t seen the plant of life in action before. I have only seen how fast and good it can heal a person. But I didn’t see the process.
None of us in the room has seen such an illness so we were amazed by what this plant we used to neglect could do.
The guards who went to bring him food returned with a plate of food and a cup of water. They set it before him on the floor and as soon as the aroma of the meal hit his nose, he rushed at it.
Ignoring the spoon and devouring the food with his both hands.
Brian and I exchanged glances.
"When was the last time he ate a hot cooked meal?" Brian muttered under his breath.
"Seems like a really long time. There is nothing left in the elder’s house where he stayed. The goddess knows how long. I doubt he was even able to eat, not to talk of to eat something hot or cooked." I replied, my gaze unwavering from the man.
He finished the food in a blink of an eye and was cleaning off the oil and liquid with his fingers and licking it off.
"Get him another plate! Get as much food you can find and get him a jug of water!" Brian spoke aloud and the guards scurried out of the hall one more time.
"I think this meeting or whatever he has to tell us will have to wait. I doubt he can even speak now." I told Brian, turning around and facing the exit.
"Just keep an eye on him. Give him a room in the pack and have the guards monitor him and take food to him." I cast one last glance at him.
"We will find out if all he said was a bluff or if he really hears from the moon goddess." I finished and walked away.
I was going to first confirm what he said about meeting Rex when he was at the elder’s house.
Rex was already at the office so that was my destination.
Rex had been seen at the pack’s store while I was still at the mansion with Nylah, and it was reported that he was in search of herbs, the plant of life and he threatened the storekeepers to give it to him.
He even searched for it himself but left angrily when he didn’t see anything.
Why would Rex want to help someone who wouldn’t even leave an abandoned house all because he claims he hears from the goddess?
Was this all framed? Maybe Rex knows nothing about this... there was a high chance that Rex didn’t so I was going to go find out first from him.
I drove to the office and nodded through my employees greetings as usual.
I got to Rex’s office and entered after a knock. He was buried deep into a document and I doubted he even heard me knock.
"You look... busy." I commented when he raised his head.
He dropped the paper on the table and looked at me with a squint.
"I guess it’s the requirement for the job." He replied, still squinting. The squint was a silent question as if asking ’why are you here?’
"Well, I came to have a chat with you." I said casually like it’s something we do— have a chat.
He squinted even more at my words. They were alien to him but he smiled through it.
"Have a chat? Did you hit your head or something?" He asked amidst a chuckle.
When I didn’t flinch, his expression became serious.
"Okay brother. What do you want to talk about?" He asked
"When you left the mansion, where did you go?" I asked, keeping a straight face.
"Oh come on." He muttered in reply but that wasn’t the answer I was looking for.
"I need a precise answer Rex." I replied
He looked at me with a frown.
"What are you doing Xavier? You just walk into my office asking for a chat and now you’re asking about where I went. Since when did you care where I go or where I fucking sleep whenever you chase me out of my home because of a stranger?" He asked, hurt in his voice.
I wasn’t here to sympathize with him though, only to get answers. So I repeated.
"I didn’t tell you to run away from the pack. You left after you made a fuss about being an Alpha or holding a tank close to the Alpha’s rank. And let’s not act like you want me to follow you around or trail you. You love to explore the world, don’t you?" I asked and his balloon deflated.
"I wandered around." He replied.
"Did you visit the elders house by chance?" His gaze shifted to me instantly. I knew there was more to it.
"Why are you asking about that?" He asked.
"Did you? Yes or no? And did you meet anyone while you were there?" I continued.
He just looked at me like I had worms growing out of my head.
"Why are you asking me all this? I never knew I had to report all my movements to you. Since when did you even care?" He asked with a smile but I closed the little distance between us, leaned in close. My hands supporting my weight.
"Because moving on, everything depends on it. So you answer me as I ask." I replied, searching his eyes with an intense gaze.
He recoiled. Probably scared or shocked by what I said.
"Okay, fine. I stumbled across the Elders house when I was wandering and I thought I was lucky to find the place the legend talked about. I went in to see the place but I found someone in there. Someone sick."
