CHAPTER 78: 78

DRAKE

"What do you know about the problem that is going on?" I asked the old man when he told me he wanted to see me concerning the problem.

"Are you not having an issue with the supplier who is supposed to bring you some goods?" He asked, and I squinted.

"How did you know about that?" He smiled and shook his head.

"The goddess knows all. She sent me to help you. She said she is going to reward you for keeping me here and taking good care of me." He continued.

I nodded tactically, still doubting his words. How was he going to help me with the supplier who had refused to deliver the goods we already paid for and was asking for more money instead? I wondered.

"How is she going to help me with this? If I don’t get the supplies by the latest tomorrow, my pack will starve." My worry was visible on my face as I spoke.

"Call him again." The old man spoke.

"What?" I asked like I didn’t hear him well.

"Call him again and repeat what you said to him the last time." He repeated, and I was stunned.

I just got off the phone with the supplier, u don’t know if the old man had no idea but the supplier told me not to call him again that the sales to the other pack had been finalized. How will calling him again change everything?

"Do you not believe me?" he asked, leaning close. I reluctantly picked my phone and put a call across to the supplier one more time.

It rang twice, and then he picked up.

"Ahhh!" He exclaimed like a man who had seen the light or realized the path of life.

"Alpha Xavier! There has been a mix-up in the communication. I think there was a mistake somewhere. Please send in your trucks so they can leave with the bags of food like discussed. And I am going to add extra bags for the inconvenience." He said everything without me having to say anything.

I was stunned.

The line disconnected, and I still held onto the phone like what happened was a trance, and I just woke up from the trance.

"What just happened?" I asked, surprised by the turn of events.

"Everything is fine now." He replied with a slight smile.

I was silent for a while. The old man stood there too, looking at me.

Then I asked, "what do you want?" This was a question we both knew the meaning of.

I had asked him before, but I was asking again on a deeper level now. He initially said he just wanted to stay in my pack and fight for its people, but I knew that he wouldn’t do all these just to stay in the pack.

He was already staying in the pack without all the extra effort, so I was convinced that he was doing all the extras to get something more from me.

"Will you be able to give me what I want, Alpha?" He asked. There was no smile on his face. Only seriousness.

I could see the old man who had been through hell just by looking at his face.

"Try me." I replied.

"I want to be the pack’s special advisor. This means that--" he wanted to continue speaking, but I stopped him halfway.

"I know what it means."

"Everything happening in the pack will be reported to you. However, I don’t think I trust you enough to put you in such a high position in the pack." I replied, and he didn’t flinch, didn’t smile or try to convince me.

This was the face I wanted to see. The real facial expression of the old man who acted like he wanted nothing more than to have his next food provided for him.

"I will give you what you want on the condition that you also give me what I want. Which is your honesty and loyalty. If I find out that you betray me, you won’t live to tell the story." I added, and he nodded thoughtfully.

"I’ve lived long enough to know what happens to traitors." He replied, and I nodded.

"Good."

"Your new position will be announced tomorrow. You will be given a befitting room and a new change of clothes. One more thing," I called out.

"Nylah and Sofia are in charge of the hospital. That is their duty in this pack. I heard you know a thing or two about plants. As good as that sounds, I want you to assist only with your knowledge. Let them handle the hospital." I instructed, and he bowed in response before walking out of my room.

I communicated to Brian through my mind link.

"We will get the food supplies soon. Send some of the men to go with the food truck to pick the food up." He was surprised by my words.

"What happened? Has the issue been sorted out?" He asked, confused.

"It has indeed been sorted out." I replied

"But... how?" He asked again

"It’s the old man Brian, the old man. He came to my chambers to talk to me about the problem I was having. Which is this problem. Apparently, he saw or heard from the goddess that I had an issue with the supplier. And he told me to call the supplier again."

"I called the supplier and didn’t even say a word. The supplier apologized and said it was a glitch in communication and told me to send my men to pick up the supplies, and he said he would add some extra goods to the truck to express his apologies."

"What?" Brian asked, surprised by what I said.

"I was stunned as well. Like what was going on. It felt like I was in a trance." I explained.

"So the issue is sorted, and we can proceed to get the goods from him?" Brian asked, and I nodded even though he couldn’t see me.

"I guess so. One more thing..." I paused for some time.

"I made him the pack’s advisor, my advisor." I informed, and Brian didn’t say anything for some minutes. He knew that I had taken a big risk, but at the same time, the old man came in handy.

"So you are letting him stay in the pack...Let’s hope things go well with him." He replied before disconnecting the mind link.
