Chapter 406: There Are Always Villains Who Want to Harm Me
CHAPTER 406: CHAPTER 406: THERE ARE ALWAYS VILLAINS WHO WANT TO HARM ME
Anna received an invitation from the Hawthorne Family, but she wasn’t surprised.
Though she didn’t really have any connections with them, and all the Hawthornes she’d met hadn’t gotten along with her.
But at a charity gala, aren’t they supposed to invite a few celebrities to create buzz and attract attention?
Anna was quite confident about her current popularity, after all, even when she wasn’t famous before, she never lacked confidence.
Even if Rainie didn’t send her an invitation, Anna would have asked Mary to reach out proactively.
After the recent turmoil, she was quite eager to understand the current situation regarding the Hawthorne Family.
Word had it that the venue for this charity dinner was actually the Hawthorne’s own mansion.
On the night of the dinner, Anna wore an aqua blue embroidered tulle dress, matching perfectly with the Heart of the Ocean, a famous jewelry brand sponsorship that Mary had recently secured for her. The diamond necklace shimmered brilliantly around Anna’s neck, accentuating her snow-white skin, but it couldn’t outshine her own radiance.
Since she picked up the child from kindergarten before changing, Anna left home for the gala.
As she was going downstairs, she unexpectedly ran into Conrad Sterling, who was also dressed in an aqua blue suit.
Wasn’t this man usually dressed in black? Today, he’s dressed in the same shade as Anna, making it look like they were wearing couple outfits.
However, unfortunately, they weren’t!
Conrad wanted to, but Anna had rejected him.
She didn’t want anything to do with him! Nor did she want others to know they had any connection!
Additionally, Finn Grant also invited Anna to be his date, considering that the nearly wrapped-up new drama needed promoting, so Anna agreed to go with Finn.
As for Conrad, he settled for being Rainie’s date for the evening.
The Hawthorne Family’s charity gala—
The lights were dazzling, and celebrities gathered.
Luxury cars slowly drove by the edge of the red carpet one after another.
After dropping people off, they drove to a centralized parking area.
As Anna prepared to get out of the car, Finn graciously held up her dress. Her high heels had barely touched the ground when all the media cameras focused on her, the flashes almost blinding, with fans’ cheers and screams rising in waves.
"You’re so popular now?"
It was Finn’s first time facing Anna’s current popularity, and he was a bit taken aback.
He originally wasn’t interested in the entertainment industry and only started studying acting and filming to be with Anna.
Seeing Anna’s situation made him worry about himself in the future; if he had so many chattering fans, following him everywhere... wouldn’t he be annoyed to death?
Anna was completely oblivious to his thoughtless imagination.
She was busy greeting fans and trying to slow her pace on the red carpet.
Many of these fans were young girls in their teens or twenties, who’d come a long way with money they usually saved, and might only get to see her for one or two minutes on the red carpet.
The Hawthorne Family’s charity gala tonight was extravagant, and they’d invited many renowned media. But being a private event, it would be completely sealed off once they got inside.
Walking side by side with Finn, Anna and he were a strikingly attractive couple.
As fans screamed in amazement, some even jokingly shouted out reminders: "Anna, stay away from that dog of a man! Be careful with them!"
Finn’s face instantly fell: "..."
Anna also: "..."
The biological father of Pop still hadn’t been exposed, so most fans believed Anna had been tricked by a man into having a child at a young age.
And in fact, that was true!
But clearly it was Conrad, the jerk, who deceived her, so why should the blame fall on Finn’s head?
Finn’s desire to pursue Anna had been pure all along.
All he wanted was to marry her and have her bear his children!
Additionally, he was quite fond of the adorable little Pop.
He didn’t even mind raising someone else’s child; how did that make him a dog of a man?
Damn!
Simultaneously, another white van arrived.
Wyatt Jagger, dressed in a white suit, got out first.
He walked from the front of the vehicle to the back and opened the door.
Marilyn Ford hooked her arm with his as she stepped out and couldn’t help frowning at the overwhelming screams from the fans ahead.
This is supposed to be a charity gala, so why does it feel like a fan meeting, utterly lacking in class?
Looking ahead, she saw many in the crowd holding high ’Anna’ signs, making Marilyn frown even more.
No wonder!
Marilyn knew she would encounter Anna at this event, and she hadn’t wanted to attend.
But she couldn’t refuse when Rainie personally invited her multiple times.
Besides, it became a major event recently in Aethelgard.
Rainie was smart; she hyped up the charity gala to a level where there was no shortage of attendees, with celebrities in the circle breaking their heads over an invitation.
Of course, that referred to smaller stars, not someone of Marilyn’s status as a movie queen.
Once Marilyn and Wyatt walked onto the red carpet, fans immediately recognized them.
"Hey, isn’t that Marilyn?"
"Her date is Wyatt, what’s going on between them?"
"Who cares? Ever since the ghosting incident, I haven’t liked Wyatt. If he really gets the goddess, fine, congrats to him. He ignored a good career to pursue women; it’s his choice, hope he won’t regret it later!"
"Wyatt’s intelligence has long been dulled by that gold-digging witch, can’t expect him to regret it. Might as well wish them an early marriage and mutual exit from the entertainment circle."
"Makes sense! Besides, I don’t think Marilyn is even a goddess, Anna is much prettier by looks and figure! Wyatt must be blind!"
Many of Anna’s fans had dropped their support for Wyatt and switched over to her.
Given their disappointment, they still held a grudge against their former idol, so their words were harsh.
As Marilyn walked past them, some words inevitably reached her ears.
She was so angry her face turned white, yet she still needed to maintain a smile for the media’s tricky photos.
Although she couldn’t show any anger outwardly, Marilyn had already noted all this down, holding Anna accountable.
She was born into a prestigious family and had experienced smooth sailing, but since encountering Anna, she’d repeatedly faced setbacks.
Marilyn’s labels had been goddess and angel before; when had she ever been called a gold-digging witch or a white lotus by fans?
If she had previously held herself above the fray, feeling too superior to concern herself with Anna.
Now, after being massively criticized and defamed, Marilyn blamed all the malicious online sentiments on Anna.
One day, she would make that woman pay!
Anna: "Ah-choo~~"
Why did it feel so chilly on her back?
There’s always a villain plotting against me!
