CHAPTER 42: CHAPTER 42: PROUD RATIONALITY MEETS ITS NEMESIS

Anna Thornton thought, she finally understood Conrad Sterling’s strange reaction.

When her hands touched the man’s solid chest, it felt like an electric shock, scaring her so much that she pushed him away forcefully.

Conrad seemed surprised by Anna’s rejection, his pupils slightly constricted.

The man’s desire to conquer was instead provoked.

Damn it!

The difference in strength between men and women was stark; by the second time he approached Anna, she couldn’t struggle free.

Honestly, even though Anna seemed fearless, always boldly flirting with Conrad,

when the other party suddenly initiated for some inexplicable reason, she found it a bit overwhelming.

The faint taste of tobacco in her mouth, the uncontrollable aura burgeoning in the dark, made Anna’s nerves jump wildly.

She seized the opportunity to turn her head, finally freeing her mouth to say three words: "Marilyn Ford!"

The effect of these three words was great, instantly halting the opponent’s rising body temperature.

"Haven’t you contacted Marilyn Ford in the past few days?" Anna continued cooling things down.

Conrad: "..."

"It seems the conflict between you two is very deep this time, no wonder you look so lonely lately, President Sterling."

Even though Anna rejected him, she struck a proactive pose, her slender, fair arms ambiguously wrapped around Conrad’s neck: "I know I look quite tempting right now, but I don’t accept relationships born out of loneliness. Unless you agree to marry me, I won’t sleep with you."

"Give up that thought, the one I want to marry is Marilyn." Conrad seemed to awaken suddenly, removing her hand.

"So what President Sterling means is, you won’t marry me, but you want to sleep with me?"

Anna seemed to believe it, looking at Conrad with a slightly resentful expression, biting her lip.

The woman’s lips, after that moment of loss of control, were a bit swollen; as she bit her lip, Conrad couldn’t take it.

He felt the rational mindset he had been proud of for twenty-something years probably met its nemesis. Conrad reached out his hand: "Give it here!"

"What?"

"The contract."

If it hadn’t been for Anna’s shout just now, Conrad might really have lost his mind tonight, repeating the mistake he made four years ago.

He didn’t intend to let Anna continue this entanglement, so he straightforwardly signed the artist management contract.

"Go to Dynasty Entertainment tomorrow to meet Jane Jennings, no need to deliberately emphasize that you’re an artist signed by me; even if you emphasize, you won’t get any preferential treatment."

Conrad handed the contract to Anna, emphasizing one last point: "Next time, don’t wear those sketchy things to see me, or I’ll throw you out the study window."

Wait a minute, what does he mean by sketchy things?

Anna only wore normal skincare products and a hint of Black Opium perfume.

Was Conrad assuming she used seductive oils to lure him?

This cheeky man really knows how to shrug off blame!

Anna finds it odd that he might have a sex addiction; otherwise, how does he always get aroused during arguments?

Whatever, at least he’s finally signed the contract as the client, so Anna doesn’t bother with anything else, happily reviewing the contract again and again.

Previously, Dynasty Entertainment’s stance was Conrad’s stance; if it hadn’t been for this man’s green light, who would dare overstep to accept Anna?

So Anna believes Conrad’s attempt to emphasize his lack of connection with her is impossible.

He wants to be low-key, but Anna is someone who insists on high-profile actions.

After getting the contract, she immediately contacted Mary overnight to spread the news, successfully creating a wave of publicity to slap Dynasty Entertainment in the face.

The next morning—

Anna woke up early to apply makeup.

Having been idle for over a week since returning from abroad, she was eager to get back to work.

Since there’s no vanity in the nursery, she simply moved all her makeup supplies to the living room as the lighting was good there.

Pop also set up a little vanity next to her, mimicking her mother by applying lipstick. She used child-friendly toy makeup, safe and harmless.

But when Conrad came downstairs and saw the big and little ones indulging in vanity together, he frowned with displeasure.

The man walked into the dining room, where the servants had already prepared the tableware and a steaming breakfast based on President Sterling’s usual waking routine. To cater to President Sterling’s picky taste, even the breakfast included an array of international styles such as Chinese, French, and Italian for him to choose from.

After sitting down, Conrad didn’t immediately start eating but instructed: "Call them to eat."

Granny Chandler listened to his order and went, but only brought Pop back.

"President Sterling, Miss Thornton said she’s not hungry and asked you to feed the child."

Conrad glanced at the little bundle with her brightly painted lips: "..."

Even Granny Chandler could tell that President Sterling wasn’t exactly the nurturing type, she hurriedly said: "President Sterling, you go ahead and eat, I’ll feed the little miss."

Granny Chandler lifted Pop into the child’s seat, took a spoon sterilized with boiling water, and tried feeding her some boiled egg to see if she’d eat it.

The little one opened her mouth wide to accept it, not picky at all.

At Granny Chandler’s age, she was quite capable of taking care of grandkids. Among the kids she’s seen, Pop is indeed a rare gem, eats whatever she’s given, and enjoys it.

This is rarely like President Sterling; she might take after Miss Thornton.

Furthermore, since arriving at the Sterling Residence yesterday, she hasn’t cried or fussed, adapts quickly, seemingly inheriting a good temperament from her parents.

Seeing a child eating well is quite healing; even Conrad was affected by Pop’s good mood. When Granny Chandler tore open a little dumpling and dipped it in cheese to feed Pop, he couldn’t resist eating two dumplings himself.

After Conrad finished breakfast, Anna had just completed her makeup.

Seeing she still wasn’t inclined to eat, it wasn’t that the woman wasn’t hungry, she was definitely afraid that eating would mess up her lipstick and ruin the meticulously crafted look she created early in the morning.

"Conrad, my agent is coming, could you instruct the security at the gate to let her in later?" Anna told him.

"When?"

"About half an hour."

"We’ll talk after breakfast."

"I’m not having breakfast; I still need to go upstairs and choose an outfit for the company."

Anna described her timeline tightly, but Conrad didn’t understand women’s insistence on perfection, down to the strands of hair, for outings: "Will choosing clothes really take half an hour? More important than breakfast?"

"Of course it’s important! Today is my first day reporting to the new agency; image matters greatly."

"Do you believe I could still change my mind right now? Make your image unimportant!"

Anna also didn’t understand why the man insisted on her having breakfast?

But seeing him seem intent on waiting for her to challenge him, Anna reluctantly got up and walked towards the dining room.

Little Pop saw her mommy coming and immediately opened her mouth wide, showing how capable she was, having eaten all up.

"Good girl!"

Anna planted a gentle kiss on the little one’s soft cheek, sitting down only to be unexpectedly stunned by the lavish leftovers on the table.

"Such a meal, how much sin of wastefulness does it create!"

Anna mentally complained, she picked a salad that was friendly to actresses’ figures, after one bite suddenly remembered something, turned to the about-to-leave Conrad, and said: "Right, I have to report to the new company today, so I’ll have to leave Pop to you."
