The Amazing Strike Back: Mommy Wants To Revenge!
Chapter 60: Pop’s Hair
CHAPTER 60: CHAPTER 60: POP’S HAIR
Anna Thornton held Pop’s hand and headed back to the ward, with Conrad Sterling following a couple of steps behind.
The woman walking in front couldn’t help but turn back and snap at him, "President Sterling, why are you still following us? Do you want to see how pitiful our child looks with this illness?"
"Anna, I don’t want to argue with you today."
"If you don’t want to fight, why are you looking for me? Are you trying to flirt and fall in love with me? If you want romance, don’t look for me. That Goddess Ford seems so gentle and understanding in your eyes!"
"..."
It seemed that this woman was naturally incompatible with Conrad. Every time they met, things always turned unpleasant. Even if Conrad didn’t instinctively get annoyed the moment he saw Anna, she always found a way to irritate him.
President Sterling’s temperament wasn’t the best to begin with, and when had he ever been so directly confronted by a woman?
So, Conrad got angry too: "You asked me before what you lack compared to Marilyn Ford. Now I’ll tell you. When it comes to making a man feel completely satisfied, you’re far behind her!"
This time it was Anna’s turn to be speechless: "..."
Seeing him turn to leave after speaking, Anna huffed at his retreating figure, "Yes, yes, she makes you feel satisfied, then go to her! If it weren’t for the surgery, do you think I’d be keen on you?!"
"By the way, I can give you this line back. When it comes to making a woman feel completely satisfied, you’re nowhere near Henry Willow."
Conrad, who had already walked ten steps away, paused but didn’t turn back.
If Henry Willow were here, he’d probably leap up to cover Anna’s mouth.
This lady, wasn’t the trouble she got him into last time with Young Master Sterling at the sanatorium enough?
Evidently, Anna didn’t feel it was enough, wanting to provoke Conrad, "Not only Henry Willow, strip away your wealth and power, and you don’t even match up to the most ordinary man. At least most people understand a father’s responsibility and duty, which you lack!"
"..."
Conrad started walking again, not turning back as he left with smoldering anger.
Wherever he went, the medical staff automatically made way for him, as if avoiding a moving volcano, afraid that even a drop of lava might scorch them.
Everyone under the Sterling Group had never seen anyone repeatedly test the limits of President Sterling’s temper like this.
Anna herself was fuming and didn’t notice that amidst the admiration and surprise from others, there was also a look of sympathy— ’You might be in trouble.’
She snorted coldly, holding the bewildered little one who was sucking her thumb the whole time during the argument, and walked back to the ward in the opposite direction from Conrad.
However, when she opened the ward door, she first suspected she’d entered the wrong room,
but a second look confirmed she hadn’t.
"Wow!"
Pop let out an excited little cry and hurriedly waddled inside, running straight into the giant plush bear by the bed.
The bear was about five or six times her size. The little tyke excitedly climbed up from the bear’s feet, managing to get onto the bed without her mommy’s help.
Just then a nurse passed by the door, peeking in to ask, "Miss Thornton, the room is arranged according to President Sterling’s instructions. Is it to your satisfaction?"
Conrad had specifically arranged for the originally plain room to be decorated in a way that would help relax the child.
Seeing Pop excitedly rolling around on the bed, the little one indeed liked it very much.
But Anna pouted, "Pop is about to go to the isolation unit soon; she won’t stay long in the room. Who is this extravagant setup meant to impress?"
"President Sterling said that even if it’s just for one day, it’s worth making the little miss happy for a day!"
These words definitely weren’t Conrad’s original words!
Anna could guess that the man simply waved his hand, instructing staff to lavishly and expensively set it up.
That’s why, on her second glance, Anna was sure they hadn’t entered the wrong room.
The opulent decor resembled the kids’ room at the Sterling Residence.
She never thought Conrad actually took time to consider the child’s needs.
Knowing this, Anna felt she shouldn’t have argued so fiercely with him earlier, mainly because she was unsure if this would increase hospital expenses, nor did she know who would foot the bill. After all, this is Aethelgard’s finest private hospital. The fees aren’t exactly cheap...
Yet when Anna thought about how Conrad might have announced the child’s illness to Marilyn in a condescending, charitable tone, she was angry enough to grit her teeth and decided to shoulder the costs herself.
The worst case, she’d just take on a couple more acting gigs in the future; she wouldn’t let anyone trample over her and her child.
Since this unpleasant fallout, Conrad hasn’t appeared at the hospital for about a week.
The most authoritative doctor in the country in this field was hired by Conrad.
The doctor had hinted numerous times that Anna should contact Conrad to discuss the final surgery arrangements, perhaps having heard about their previous argument in the hospital or catching wind of the brewing speculation and concerns that the surgery might not happen.
Moreover, the doctor emphasized how difficult it was to find a compatible bone marrow match for Pop, urging Anna not to miss this opportunity.
On this matter, Anna wasn’t too worried. Although Conrad lacked honesty, he at least knew how to prioritize important matters.
Even if he were angry with Anna, at most he’d pull a long face and ignore her; he wouldn’t take it out on Pop, hopefully.
Now, a more pressing issue for Anna was that Pop already started chemotherapy, which truly broke her heart and exhausted her strength.
As Anna met with the doctor and then headed back to the ward, she ran into Mary at the door.
"Anna, you look so thin. Why don’t you get a room at the hotel near the hospital and rest well? I can swap with you and watch over little Pop," Mary suggested.
Anna shook her head, "She’s being mischievous these days, you won’t be able to handle her."
"What’s going on?"
Once Mary entered the ward, she didn’t see Pop but noticed the quilt on the bed bulging with a small lump.
She walked over and gently patted it.
The ’small lump’ was warm but didn’t move.
"Little Pop, come out and see what goodies Aunt Mary brought you?"
"There’s delicious little cookies too?"
"If you don’t come out, your mommy and I will eat them up."
No matter what Mary said, the little one stayed curled under the quilt, giving no response.
"What’s up? Even treats won’t work."
Pop used to love eating.
Feeling curious, Mary just lifted the quilt, revealing the little one hiding beneath, with her round, bald little head.
Pop’s eyes were red as she looked at Mary, feeling aggrieved, then she hugged her smooth little head with her short arms and burrowed back under the quilt.
"Anna, Pop’s hair..."
"I shaved it all off!"
