CHAPTER 27: GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Ru Feifei is a born genius destined to become a leader. The heavens showed Ling Yu the path she must help Ru Feifei choose.

That means Ling Yu was going to interfere thoroughly, so that she makes sure this time, Ru Feifei gets the recognition she is worth.

Just as Ling Yu was immersed in her own thoughts, a wave of squealing broke through the hall. Female students screamed, giggled, and whispered to one another as footsteps echoed from the back.

Ling Yu turned her head towards the stage to see what was going on.

A young man stepped forward, his demeanor colder than frost, and his expression seemed unreadable. Raven-black hair, pale skin, deep eyes that gave nothing away. He walked with purpose, a stack of documents in one hand.

The air shifted around him, a subtle pressure enveloping the hall.

He was strikingly handsome, yes, but that wasn’t what caught Ling Yu’s attention.

Floating above his head was a radiant gold screen.

He Xun.

A name she would never forget.

In her past life, he was a prodigy and a genius researcher working diligently in the field of science. After the rampage, he didn’t back down; instead, he rose from a mere researcher to the founder of the Zhongji Awakener’s Guild, one of the most powerful organizations in the entire Empire. He led the charge against multiple beast tides, hunted down high-class dungeons, coordinated elite troops, and forged peace between factions, even researching a lot of things about dungeons from the inside out.

By the time Ling Yu died, his name was synonymous with strength, wisdom, and untouchable might.

An S-class Awakened genius. And right now, he was still just a researcher.

As Ling Yu was sizing up the guy with sceptical eyes, a thought suddenly occurred to her.

If he were a researcher, was he involved in the disaster management department, too?

Did he know something about the phenomenon that was about to happen within the world, like those other researchers?

Her gaze was fixated on the information floating before her eyes, automatically displayed due to her advanced Appraisal skill:

It was exactly as she remembered.

The most dazzling prodigy of his generation.

A mind unparalleled in both strategy and combat research. A walking legend in the making.

"Yu’er," Ru Feifei whispered, leaning in. "Is it just me, or does he look... like he stepped out of a manhua?"

Ling Yu stared at the brilliant golden screen.

"Yes," she murmured.

"It’s freaking dazzling."

Indeed dazzling.

Because Ling Yu never thought she would meet someone with a shiny golden screen hanging above their head so soon.

That’s indeed another golden retriever.

"To think I’d get to see one of the future S-rank awakener so soon, looks like fate is indeed thrashing me from behind to get entangled in all sorts of danger..."

Ling Yu shrugged her shoulders as she tried to focus on the lecture, but her mind kept drifting off to other thoughts again and again.

There are about four empires within the Entire continent in this world. The Jiang Kingdom to the East, the Xie Kingdom to the West, the Nie Kingdom to the South, Feng Kingdom to the North. And in the middle of all four empires was the famous Holy Kingdom, known for its neutrality and keeping peace between all four Empires.

Aside from that, the infamous Dark Forest borders all the Empires, and surrounding the forest are oceans. The Dark Forest was strange and had an eerie atmosphere. Many conquest groups that headed for the forest didn’t return alive, or came back scattered and defected. That’s why all the empires liked to avoid the Dark Forest like a plague, though it wasn’t actually that dangerous compared to the real danger they were going to face soon.

Even if the four Empires and the Holy Kingdom together bore many awakeners on the days to come, they were still not able to hold back the Great disaster that loomed above the world, destroying all the Empires and their people.

There were a total of three big disasters that happened before and after the appearance of the Gates. The first one started with a ridiculous and strange phenomenon, where Ling Yu was sent to supervise the situation at the border of the Dark forest and almost died in the attack, surviving barely and returning to the Empire.

Ling Yu had pushed the bad memories to the back of her head; now was not the time to think of all these tragedies and get depressed. Since she was already taking caution ahead of time, she knew she could ward off the first disaster somehow through her hard work.

Half of the Eastern Lands are barren dessert lands, along with poisonous snakes and insects that could take away a healthy and living person or animal and throw them to death in just one bite. The rest of the land close to the border area are mining grounds, where Ling Yu was currently enjoying extorting all the ores from underground caves in the back mountain.

Aside from that, everyone was afraid of the border’s closest area that was placed in this Eastern territory of the Empire. Naturally, no one was willing to stay here, thus this land got known as Land of Expulsion, because all the fallen nobles or Royals were sent to this Eastern territory after falling out of grace like a tradition.

Since Ling Yu gave up her title as a Princess of the Empire, naturally, they didn’t hesitate to hand over the land to her, thinking its worthless and a fief deserving of her.

Since the other people that were expelled from the Empire and lived here in seclusion was depressed, they didn’t move around here and failed to discover the surprises hidden beneath the dry soils.
