CHAPTER 42: LETTERS

"Master doesn’t know how to take care of herself well yet, and I doubt that snotty brat would be able to take care of you properly without me. Of course, I have to follow you." Song was speaking as if it was a matter of fact that he must follow her, but it was more than just a simple embarrassment for a certain someone.

’Does he really think of me like that?’

Wait!

’More than that, did he just agree to leave with me?’

Ling Yu’s eyes sparkled with disbelief as relief washed over her. To think he would agree to leave this place so easily, like that, should she be grateful about the fact that she always acts like a spoiled brat around Song, which made him think that she won’t find someone to take care of her and starve to death?

If anything, she was really grateful that he decided to stay with her. The Eastern can turn into a dungeon for all she cares, because ’he’ will come and get rid of it anyway.. At least she was able to save the person she cared about, and that was something more than to be thankful for.

"It’s a promise then! You can’t go back on your words, okay?" Ling Yu grinned at Song widely, her mustache twitching and spreading even further, which brought a rare amused spark in Song’s eyes.

"Of course, it’s a promise. Before that, excuse me for a moment." Song was calm as he took out a handkerchief from his pocket and proceeded to wipe off the cream mustache that she had gotten after drinking cocoa from Ling Yu’s face.

"Well, what? When did I get that? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" Ling Yu was ashamed after having been babied by Song once again, but she stopped speaking when she saw the expression on his face as he was wiping her face.

"Was the cocoa alright? Does Master wish to drink it from time to time?" Song returned to his position as he asked her.

Ling Yu stared at him for a moment as she was in a trance, then she composed herself as she smiled, "How much do we have left? Is it alright to get a cup every night before sleep?"

"Of course, I’ll take care of it, then," Song said, back to his usual expression as he stared at her.

Truly, Ling Yu was feeling warm and drowsy after drinking the cocoa, all warm and fuzzy; she got sleepy now.

Song saw it and stood up straight as he walked over, speaking with a gentle voice, "It’s time for your sleep, Master. I’ll take you back to your room, so excuse me."

Song was respectful even when he wrapped a blanket around her and picked her up, leaving the annex and walking towards the main building, to put her back to sleep in her room.

Ling Yu appreciated this free ride as she snuggled herself into his arms, making it comfortable as she fell asleep in a sweet dream.

***

The next day morning,

Ling Yu was feeling refreshed, as on any other morning, as she woke up and got ready to leave for her university once again.

She knew that Song was already understanding of her plans that were to come later. And he didn’t ask anything aside from packing a bunch of snacks for her; it seems they had a mutual understanding of each other.

In any case, Ling Yu trusted him enough to leave herself in his care. It didn’t matter whose memory he reflected on her as long as he was willing to listen to her.

Aside from that, another small issue seemed to be raised with Ye Qingxue as she locked herself in the training area as soon as she regained her consciousness. And it didn’t seem like any words Ling Yu says now won’t go through her ears, considering that she was blaming herself for being weak and helpless when it was time to protect Ling Yu.

After all this training, Ling Yu couldn’t get it through Ye Qingxue’s head that it wasn’t her fault for being useless or anything, but the enemy was too strong.

Even after discovering Ling Yu’s unique powers, Ye Qingxue didn’t seem to have any intention to ask her what it was about. Nor did she want to know why Ling Yu was recruiting her despite being so strong herself.

"Please convince her for me, Song. It wouldn’t be good if she pushed herself too hard." Ling Yu requested Song to look after Ye Qingxue, but the reaction that came from him was unexpected.

"She should reflect on her wrongdoings. There is nothing to worry about, Master." Song criticised bluntly as he looked uninterested.

"Wait! What do you mean by that? It wasn’t her fault... you..." Ling Yu wanted to come clean, but before she could say anything more, Song turned her around by the shoulder as he pushed her till she was inside the car, then closed the door as he gave off a fake smile.

"Don’t worry, Master. I’ll make sure to take care of her thoroughly till you come back."

With the car moving far away, Ling Yu couldn’t scold him for this insolence. But she put her head outside the window for the last time as she screamed: "Take care of yourself too!"

After the car moved for about an hour, the city came to view as she was lost in thought. In the morning, Song came to her and handed her two letters. Even in this era of technology, using letters for an invitation may seem like a waste of time, but it was actually done as a part of tradition and respect among people of an aristocratic society.

Among them, she got a red envelope with a seal and a violet flower attached to it, while the other one was a yellow envelope with a golden seal. Anyone can tell at a glance that it was from the Royal family, which was like an honor.
