The Battle in Journey to the West
Chapter 167 - 167 164 Kong Xuan the Peacock Great Ming King
Chapter 167: Chapter 164: Kong Xuan, the Peacock Great Ming King Chapter 167: Chapter 164: Kong Xuan, the Peacock Great Ming King The story tells of how Vairocana Buddha and Non-Empty Attainment Buddha, in search of the already ash-transformed Delighted Buddha of Fixed Light, arrived at Yingzhou within the Secret Realm. They witnessed a great battle and had spoken just a few words when the Ventilating Sage, Macaques King, with his wind-sensitive ears that could hear much more than others, caught them in the act.
The two really did not understand the capabilities of the Macaques King. Otherwise, they would have most certainly kept silent. Now discovered and surrounded by seven figures, they truly lamented their plight.
Vairocana Buddha said, “We have no ill intentions, and we kindly ask all you great kings to allow us passage to leave!”
However, Macaques King scolded, “You bald one, you’re not being honest! Just now, you were discussing how to secretly plot against our Bull, and now you say you have no ill intentions!”
Vairocana Buddha, realizing that the Macaques King was repeating the topics of their recent conversation, was taken aback. Suddenly, he conjured a Demon Subduing Sword, shook it, and tried to break through the encirclement.
Macaques King, enraged, drew his great sword and clashed with Vairocana Buddha. Lion Camel King joined the fray, shaking his head and leaping into the battle to aid him.
Non-Empty Attainment Buddha tried to escape directly but was blocked by Peng Demon King. As the Peng Demon King was extremely swift, how could he possibly outrun him?
“Pu!”
Vairocana Buddha, stunned by Lion Camel King’s roar, took a punch from Macaques King to the chest, shattering his sternum, and was sent flying out, spitting blood.
“Ah!”
Non-Empty Attainment Buddha screamed in agony as Peng Demon King clawed his shoulder, tearing off a large piece of flesh, blood pouring out. Then, struck by Ox Demon King’s staff in the lower back, he rolled out like a gourd.
The two Da Luo Golden Immortals, besieged by a group of battle-hardened Da Luo Golden Immortal level Giant Demon Fiends, were inevitably bested. With just a few strikes, they were injured, falling to the ground covered in blood, beaten to a pulp in mere moments.
These Giant Demons were merciless and ruthless. Once you crossed them, if you weren’t strong enough, death was the only outcome.
Hu Li was also startled by the commotion, and just as she was about to turn back to kill the Jiuying, a scatter of Five-Colored Divine Light came down, sending Yu Rong King’s three Exorcism Hoops flying away. Jiuying was then swept up by the Five-Colored Divine Light.
Non-Empty Attainment Buddha cried out, “Peacock Great Ming King Bodhisattva, save me!”
The one who arrived was none other than Kong Xuan, the Peacock Great Ming King, summoned by the Tathagata’s calculations. Kong Xuan was an extremely formidable figure, whose cultivation reached the Creation Boundary of the Mixed Yuan Golden Immortal’s Third Heaven. Back in Ancient Times, he had a mighty reputation. His Five-Colored Divine Light, cast down, would take any Magical Treasure with it.
Peng Demon King suddenly shouted, “Big brother!”
There was Kong Xuan capturing Jiuying atop the clouds, with Jiuying not daring to move a muscle in his grasp, coiled up tightly. Even with his original abilities, it wouldn’t be difficult for Kong Xuan to kill him.
All the brothers present couldn’t help but be shocked. Peng Demon King’s call to ‘big brother’ was likely not meant for Ox Demon King, but for Kong Xuan!
Peng Demon King instantly took flight, soaring towards the clouds, but was struck by a downward cascading Five-Colored Divine Light, leaving him battered and bleeding, tumbling to the ground, unable to stand from the pain.
Amidst continuous bursts of Five-Colored Divine Light from the sky, the host of Demon Kings was repelled, giving Vairocana Buddha and Non-Empty Attainment Buddha a chance to extricate themselves. Immediately ascending to the heavens, they expressed their gratitude, “Thank you, Bodhisattva, for your timely aid!”
Peng Demon King, gritting his teeth, struggled up from the ground and said, “Big brother, do you not remember me? I am Great Peng!”
Kong Xuan’s brows slightly furrowed as he responded coldly, “I, having escaped into the monastic life, have severed all worldly ties; I no longer remember who you are.”
The Enlightenment Dao inwardly frowned and thought, “It never crossed my mind that Third Brother and Kong Xuan would be brothers. But I wonder if Kong Xuan has also been replaced within the Buddhist sect. He was taken away by Daoist Zhunti back then and joined the Western Religion. Later on, disenchanted, he swallowed Siddhartha Gautama Buddha whole but was instead named Peacock Great Ming King Bodhisattva.”
Peng Demon King, both shocked and furious, exclaimed, “What magic has clouded your mind! I must see for myself!”
The Peng Demon King, undeterred by Kong Xuan’s high level of cultivation, rose to his feet and transformed into a Gold-Winged Great Peng, massive as a mountain. With a fierce cry, he soared into the sky.
Kong Xuan felt a throbbing pain in his head as if something mysterious was at play. But then a passage of scripture flowed through his mind, calming him instantly. With a sweep of his sleeve, he unleashed a wave of Five-Colored Divine Light that struck Peng Demon King, eliciting a pained cry as he fell from his mouth and crashed to the ground, creating a huge crater.
“You call yourself a Bodhisattva, yet you have no qualms about striking down your own brother with such cruelty!” Lion Camel King roared, shaking his mane and transforming into a gigantic golden lion, surging up into the heavens.
As soon as he rose up, another beam of Five-Colored Divine Light spilled down. With a bang, it struck true, and the Lion Camel King cried out, “It’s killing me!” Suddenly, his vision darkened, and he fell to the ground, his golden mane soaked in fresh blood.
Enlightenment Dao sternly shouted, “Nobody move, this Kong Xuan is a formidable figure from Ancient Times who could challenge even Saints. If you irritate him, be careful he doesn’t decide to kill!”
At this shout, those who had intended to help, like the Macaque King and the others, halted in their tracks. They too felt rushing in would be too reckless. Kong Xuan’s strength was too formidable; in his presence, they were as insignificant as chickens and dogs. Even if Jiuying were to resurrect, he would still be killed by Kong Xuan’s Five-Colored Divine Light.
The Peng Demon King struggled to rise from the ground, weeping, “Big brother, ever since the battle in the Middle Ancient Times, I have been searching for you, and I feared you were dead… What has happened to you? Even though you were taken by Zhunti, you were still very lucid then, knowing I am the Great Peng, your brother! Why have you become so heartless now? Have you forgotten me, and our father as well?”
Kong Xuan’s expression was cold as he said, “I don’t understand what you, this demon, are saying. My journey here was to convert Jiuying, not to entangle with you all. If you persist, be wary lest this poor monk decides to take lives!”
The Peng Demon King, furious and with bloodshot eyes, rose into the sky once more, laughing manically, “Fine, very fine! Tathagata surely has splendid tactics, making it so that brothers are pitted against each other. Then go ahead and kill me!”
Transforming into a streak of golden light, he rushed forward. Kong Xuan still grabbed a handful of Five-Colored Divine Light and scattered it, knocking the Peng Demon King from the sky to the ground.
“Great Peng! Don’t be stubborn, your brother is under Tathagata’s control, he probably doesn’t remember you,” the Jiao Demon King pressed the Peng Demon King, who was trying to rise to the sky, back down.
The Peng Demon King, gritting his teeth, said, “I finally got to see him again, I must get answers. I cannot let him go just like that!”
Enlightenment Dao came over and whispered to the Peng Demon King, but he shook his head, “He is indeed the original Kong Xuan, born of a Phoenix, my own flesh and blood brother! I can feel the blood connection.”
Enlightenment Dao thought to himself, “The Two Saints of the West have been out of sight for a long time. Kong Xuan was subdued by Daoist Zhunti. Afterwards, because Duobao achieved Buddhahood and he couldn’t stand that Duobao instantly became his senior, he swallowed him whole. When he broke out by bursting his spinal column, maybe to save face for Zhunti, Kong Xuan was granted the title of Peacock Great Ming King Bodhisattva and also honored as Buddha’s Mother. Kong Xuan didn’t die in the battle of the Middle Ages, the real Buddhas of Mount Meru went to the South Sea to recuperate, and this bunch of imposters tricked the world, ‘The Substitute.’ It’s possible that Kong Xuan has been converted by that false Tathagata through some secret technique!”
It seemed that Kong Xuan was reluctant to resort to killing, perhaps feeling some resistance to it, so he said to the Non-Empty Attainment Buddha and Vairocana Buddha, “Buddha Ancestors, let us leave!”
Kong Xuan exited the Secret Realm first. Just as the two Buddha Ancestors were about to follow, a streak of sword Qi fell from the sky, swift as lightning and thunder. Kong Xuan didn’t even have time to stop it. Two fine heads flew up, and their Primordial Spirits were instantly extinguished by the overwhelming Sword Qi.
When the seven brothers and others pursued them outside, they saw this scene. The Sword Qi was so fast and terrifying, not even Kong Xuan could stop it; it was clear that the sword move had been a long time in the making.
Seeing someone kill two Buddhas right in front of him, Kong Xuan roared in anger, “Who goes there!”
The assailant seemed to have already escaped. After delivering the killing blow, they fled a thousand miles away. Kong Xuan transformed into a streak of Five-Colored Divine Light and pursued.
Those left on the ground heard continuous booming sounds from afar, the Five-Colored Divine Light and Sword Qi clashing fiercely. Then, they heard a series of drum beats, followed by mysterious Daoist chanting. The chants were of the “Supreme Cave Mystery Lingbao Vast Sutra of Delivering Sentient Beings.” After a short while, Kong Xuan cried out in pain and turned to leave.
The Peng Demon King called out, “Big brother! Where are you going?”
But Kong Xuan didn’t answer and left swiftly. The Peng Demon King was already injured and unable to fly, so he could only watch as Kong Xuan took Jiuying away.
Enlightenment Dao was secretly shocked. The sword strike was incredibly terrifying. Although it might be difficult to kill Kong Xuan, killing the other two was effortless. Even Kong Xuan had no time to react. After catching up to the assailant for a fierce battle, he was driven back by a burst of drumming.
“Who killed those two Baldies just now? Such prowess, instantly ending them, and even Kong Xuan suffered a great loss upon the pursuit,” Jiao Demon King said, astonished.
“I just heard the chanting of Lingbao Tianzun’s ‘Sutra for Crossing Sentient Beings’ from that direction. Kong Xuan listened and seemed in great agony before he turned and left,” Macaque King said.
Enlightenment Dao couldn’t help but muse, “Who launched that Sword Qi? To wield such mighty swordsmanship and cultivation, there can’t be many in this world… Perhaps is it one of the ancient powerhouses? That can’t be possible… Oh, doesn’t my sister use a sword? Could it have been her?” He then thought further, “But my sister’s sword isn’t that swift. Last time when we faced Heavenly Illuminating Holy King, she even had to borrow Laojun’s mana. Kong Xuan is definitely a figure who could challenge Saints, surely his mana is above my sister’s.”
“Fifth Brother, do you have any idea who this swordsman could be? Such sharp swordsmanship and cultivation are rare in the world,” Enlightenment Dao asked.
“Extremely rare! Gongsun Xuanyuan is a master of the Sword Dao. However, as one of the Three Emperors of the human clan, he has long met his fate. The Patriarchs of the Shushan sect are also masters of the Sword Dao, and needless to mention Lingbao Tianzun…” Macaque King listed some names, all of which could fit the remarkable sword technique they had witnessed.
The Peng Demon King hung his head in dejection. As the brothers couldn’t figure out who had slain the two Buddhas, they stopped speculating and turned to comfort the Peng Demon King.
