The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress
Chapter 120: About to Give Birth
CHAPTER 120: CHAPTER 120: ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH
For dinner, the three of them enjoyed a spicy hot pot that made them break out in a sweat. Kiki didn’t complain about the cold anymore. Her little face flushed red, and she kept exclaiming how satisfying it was.
It’s all meat. It would have been better with some vegetables, Kiki thought.
Though she clearly hadn’t eaten her fill, Kiki put down her chopsticks. Sienna Johnson looked at her curiously and asked, "Why aren’t you eating anymore?"
"Mai, I think I need to lose weight. I’m starting to get a belly roll," Kiki said adorably, head bowed, pinching her tummy through her clothes. Sure enough, she could grab a roll of fat.
"With the abundance of food recently, Kiki, you’ve put on some weight," Sienna noted, looking at Kiki’s belly.
Lucas Robertson was heartily eating meat, completely unconcerned about his figure. He glanced at Kiki’s belly and noted bluntly, "Hmm, you look like you’re four or five months pregnant."
"Four or five months?" Kiki was shocked.
"No..." Lucas swallowed the meat in his mouth, looked at Kiki’s bright eyes, and added, "More like six or seven months."
"Lucas, go die outside in the snow!" Kiki roared, her face darkened with anger, resembling an irritated little beast.
"The snow outside has stopped," Lucas calmly responded.
"Lucas, do you have feelings for Kiki?" Sienna suddenly asked.
Not only Lucas but Kiki too was taken aback. Kiki looked horrified, as if she had seen a ghost. "Mai, what are you talking about?"
Sienna took a sip of milk, her gaze sweeping over the two with a look that implied they were having some sort of ’illicit affair,’ making them both shiver.
"I heard that boys can’t express their feelings well. Even when they like someone, they behave strangely. They often do things to irritate the girl, just to get her attention," Sienna explained.
Kiki stole a terrified glance at Lucas. She was scared that Lucas might actually like her, as Sienna suggested, even though he always bullied her. Kiki scooted closer to Sienna, as if seeking refuge.
Lucas’s face twitched. "I already have a fiancée. Even though she passed away, I swear I will never love another woman in this lifetime."
Relieved, Kiki patted her chest and took a long sigh. "Thank goodness."
"You’re nowhere near as good as my fiancée," Lucas said dismissively.
Rarely, Kiki didn’t argue with him. Instead, she beamed and said, "Absolutely right. No woman in this world can hold a candle to your fiancée. So, you should remain faithfully devoted to her for your entire life and not bring harm to other women."
It seems she misjudged.
She didn’t know Lucas well, but Kiki couldn’t fool her; Kiki had no romantic feelings for Lucas. That was for the best. If what Lucas had just said was true, it wouldn’t be a good thing for Kiki to fall in love with him.
"I must have been imagining things..." Sienna commented.
Still shaken, Kiki said, "Mai, don’t ever make that kind of joke again. It’s terrifying. I’ll have nightmares."
"Me as well," Lucas chimed in.
"It’s the first time both of you have agreed on something," Sienna pointed out.
"Ah..." Suddenly, Sienna yelped in pain, placing a hand on her abdomen. Seeing this, Kiki blinked, then, as realization dawned, her eyes lit up, but her expression quickly turned to worry. "Mai, are you having stomach pains? Are you about to give birth?"
Sienna was already past her due date.
There was a saying that boys tended to be born early, while girls usually arrived late. Sienna guessed this baby was a girl. Adrian preferred boys, but she preferred girls; girls were more considerate.
"My stomach hurts..." Sienna said, wincing as contractions began. The pain came in waves, like electrical currents, its intensity matching their frequency.
Lucas immediately put down his chopsticks and said, "I’ll go find Dr. Robertson."
"Hurry, go quickly," Kiki urged.
Before they could even finish dinner, their meal was interrupted by the imminent arrival of the little one.
"Mai, what should we do?" Kiki, completely inexperienced, turned to Sienna in a panic.
After all, Sienna had studied medicine. Although she wasn’t an obstetrician, she still knew a few things.
"Go get the baby’s clothes ready and boil some water... Then, wait for Dr. Robertson to arrive before making further preparations," Sienna instructed.
"Okay, okay, I’ll do it right now!"
A flustered Kiki immediately went to boil the water. Seeing that Kiki hadn’t put on a coat, Sienna called out, "You haven’t put on your coat! Aren’t you afraid of freezing into an ice cube?"
"Oh, right, right, I haven’t put on my coat."
Sienna took a deep breath, feeling the contractions in her lower abdomen. She was probably about to give birth.
It was her first time giving birth, and in such a situation too. To say she wasn’t afraid would be a lie. At this moment, however, she could only force herself to be strong.
An hour passed, and Lucas still hadn’t returned with Dr. Robertson.
The contractions were becoming stronger. Kiki had already boiled the water. Worried about Sienna, she came over to check on her. Sienna was lying in bed, her brows tightly knitted, her lips bitten so hard they had lost all color.
"Mai, that unreliable Lucas! Why isn’t he back yet?"
It had been a whole hour. Even though the houses in the village were far apart, an hour should have been enough time, no matter the distance.
"It’s snowed so much these past few days, and the temperature is so low tonight, the road must be hard to travel... Lucas is a very responsible person. He... will bring... Dr. Robertson over," Sienna said, her voice strained.
"Is it very painful? I heard giving birth is really painful."
"It... hurts!" Sienna’s small face twitched. She gasped sharply and cried out, "AH!"
"Mai, what happened?"
Kiki anxiously followed her gaze downwards. There, on Sienna’s slightly swollen calves exposed from under the blanket, a stream of bright red blood trickled down her pale skin...
"Mai, you’re bleeding..."
Sienna didn’t really know how to give birth either. She vaguely knew she was supposed to push with the contractions, but as for specifically how to exert force, she wasn’t clear.
"It’s okay, it’s okay... It’s probably my water breaking..." Sienna said.
"If your water broke, why would there be so much blood?" Kiki asked, panicking. It was understandable; as an unmarried young woman, she would naturally be terrified by such a scene.
A thick, metallic scent of blood assaulted Sienna’s nostrils. Her heart sank, and she murmured, "Please, don’t let it be a massive hemorrhage..."
"What’s that?"
"It’s a complication during childbirth. Many pregnant women die from massive hemorrhaging..." Sienna explained.
She had never experienced it herself, only heard people talk about it. It referred to uncontrolled bleeding during labor; if it wasn’t stopped in time, the mother could bleed to death.
