The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress
Chapter 77 - 077: The Unexpectedly Saved Man
CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 077: THE UNEXPECTEDLY SAVED MAN
"What exactly did they do to you?"
Sienna Johnson was also shocked by this horrifying scene. She couldn’t make out the man’s face, as it was covered in blood and wounds, swollen, with gunshots, whiplashes, knife wounds, and even burns... What on earth had he gone through?
Ignoring his own injuries, the man crawled over to the dead woman, leaving a long trail of blood behind him, burying his face in her chest and sobbing.
Sienna sighed and walked over to persuade him. "Now is not the time to grieve. Come with me. As long as you stay alive, there will always be a chance..." She didn’t say it explicitly, but she knew the man understood she meant the chance for revenge.
Apparently, the man took Sienna’s words to heart. He struggled to stand up and tried to lift the woman off the ground, but his injuries were too severe, and he couldn’t lift her.
"Let me help you," she said softly.
Sienna helped the man support the woman’s already stiff body. As a medical student who had dissected many corpses, she wasn’t afraid of them, just saddened.
This was a completely chaotic world. If she died one day, she would simply be dead, just like a random cat or dog on the roadside. With this thought in mind, her eyes turned red involuntarily.
Unable to stand it, Adrian Desmond ordered Tatu, who was standing beside him, "You, go help them!"
"I won’t!" Tatu stubbornly refused.
"Go! Damn it! Are none of you going to listen to me anymore?" Adrian cursed, infuriated by the events of the evening.
Tatu dared not disobey Adrian and reluctantly took the woman from the injured man’s arms. The man was unwilling to let her go but truly could no longer carry her.
"Tatu means no harm. Just let him help you. We have to leave this place right away," Sienna urged.
Reluctantly, the man let go of the woman.
"Let me help you."
Sienna supported the injured man, but Adrian, jealous of her kindness towards other men, came over and forcefully pulled her to his side.
The group finally left Maxwell Bradford’s territory.
Walter Klein finally relaxed his tense nerves. At least that had been a narrow escape.
There was only one car outside, and clearly, it wasn’t big enough for everyone. Sienna knew that Adrian had the final say here. Even though he didn’t seem to want to talk to her right now, she mustered up the courage to say, "Please find a car to take him to the hospital. His injuries are severe."
Adrian’s dark eyes hid his anger as he sarcastically replied, "Mai, you really are kind-hearted. He’s just a stranger, yet you care about him so much. Why don’t you worry about me instead?"
"You have Miss Carpenter. He has nothing left."
"You..." Adrian was at a loss for words.
Seeing that no one was willing to call a car for the stranger, Sienna took all the money from her wallet and stuffed it into his hand—it was quite a sum. "Take this to get treated. You’ll need to recover before you can take revenge."
Though hesitant, the man did not return the money to Sienna.
Adrian couldn’t stand it any longer. He came over and forced the meddling Sienna into the black car. As it drove away, Sienna turned to watch.
Adrian scoffed, "Stop looking. Tatu will take care of him."
"Thank you." Hearing Adrian’s assurance, Sienna finally looked away.
The night’s events felt like a heart-stopping nightmare, and Sienna was exhausted. She wanted to go home. She missed her father and Teddy...
The car was spacious, so Sienna sat by the window on the other side, keeping her distance from Adrian. She rolled down the window. Dawn was approaching, but it couldn’t illuminate the darkness here.
I have to escape, I must! I can’t let my child grow up in this horrifying world.
Leaning her head against the seat back, she gazed hazily out the window, her hair tousled by the wind, a mischievous strand of it sliding restlessly on her cheek.
The car was eerily quiet. Adrian tightly pursed his lips, not saying a word.
With her eyes closed, Sienna started to doze off in the gentle breeze.
As Adrian pondered how to strike up a conversation, he turned and saw her drowsy appearance, and a surge of anger almost choked him.
"You’ve caused such a mess, and you still have the nerve to sleep?" Adrian yelled.
The shout jolted Sienna awake. She opened her eyes and coldly retorted, "If Sixth Master dislikes me so much, why did you give up your caravan to Maxwell Bradford for my sake?"
"For your sake? You think I did that for you? I did it for my son!" Adrian stubbornly insisted.
"..."
"What are you? Utterly shameless! You were thrown into the snake room once, haven’t you learned your lesson!? Mai, I warn you, if something like this happens again, I will never save you!" Adrian felt helpless; he had no way to deal with this woman who was impervious to both soft and hard tactics.
Adrian’s sharp words cut her to the quick, a piercing pain shooting through her.
He could be kind to her, but he could also be incredibly cruel!
"Sixth Master, you can throw me back into the snake room," she cried out resentfully.
"You?" Wasn’t she a woman? Why couldn’t she be a little weaker, a little softer? Couldn’t she beg for mercy? Couldn’t she act coy? Why did she always have to clash with me head-on?
"Mai, what do you really want?"
"What I want, Sixth Master can’t give. Don’t ask me that again," Sienna’s tone was cold and indifferent.
Their relationship remained strained, with daily arguments, which wasn’t what Adrian wanted. He tried to explain, "Melanie is my cousin, my uncle’s only daughter. Because of our family, her entire family died, and only she remains. I promised my uncle I’d take care of her for the rest of my life..."
Sienna asked, "There are many ways to take care of someone. Why do you have to marry her?"
"Melanie and I had an arranged engagement since childhood. My mother’s dying wish was for me to marry Melanie to carry on the Desmond bloodline, and I promised my uncle... I’m a man; I can’t go back on my word or my vows!"
Adrian told Sienna everything, hoping she would be more understanding and give in a little. However, it had no effect – her heart was simply too hard to warm.
"...Melanie is all alone now. If I don’t marry her, what will she do?"
"If you can’t break your promises and vows, why did you get involved with me in the first place? Don’t you know that this also hurts Miss Carpenter?"
"Melanie’s not like you! Do you think she’s as unreasonable as you are? Melanie knows you’re my woman; isn’t she good enough to you? It’s you who’s always been aggressive and intolerant of her."
