CHAPTER 207: CHAPTER 207: WEDDING PHOTO 5_1
Huang Xiaojue remained calm. "Xixi, do you want to resign?"
"No, I don’t!"
Seeing her answer so resolutely, Huang Xiaojue sighed silently to himself but still replied very gently, "If you don’t want to resign, there’s no need to. It’s a good thing to work hard for a few years while you’re still young."
Relieved, she quickly took Huang Xiaojue’s hand, her frown easing, yet she still seemed troubled. "Xiaojue, what kind of gift should I bring when I visit your parents tomorrow? What do they like?"
"You don’t have to worry about that. Both my parents enjoy tea. I’ve already prepared a kilogram of high-quality Puer tea, so you can just bring that tomorrow."
She was surprised. "Do you prepare gifts for me every time?"
He laughed. "Well, you don’t know what they like. If I prepare it, it will be to their taste."
That night, she suffered from insomnia once more. The thought of visiting the Huang family’s home the following evening made her anxious. It was more nerve-wracking than the night before the college entrance examinations.
Tossing and turning, she checked her messages again. Indeed, that snide stranger had completely disappeared. Since that day, there had been no news from him at all.
She felt a little wistful. That guy, although detestable, was also quite interesting. And because he was a virtual stranger, she could say whatever was on her mind without any reservations. Now, great, she didn’t even have anyone to confide in anymore.
Just as she was about to turn off her phone and go to sleep, she saw Zhou Xiaoxuan had posted new messages in their schoolmates’ group chat. Curious, she opened Zhou Xiaoxuan’s photo album and gave a start. It was filled with wedding photos of Wan Donglin and Zhou Ting. The photos were mostly long shots, and most people might not recognize the individuals, but Yan Xixi recognized them immediately. Even from a distance, he exuded an aura of aloof self-mockery. He was always like that—never prone to outbursts, yet so inscrutable. One moment he might be smiling, but the next he could turn on you.
Yan Xixi suddenly noticed that the clear group photo Zhou Xiaoxuan had previously posted had been deleted.
When someone commented asking who was in the photos, Zhou Xiaoxuan did not reply.
The afternoon sun was exceptionally bright, and the small pink flowers nearby swayed gently.
Wan Donglin lay on a chair, contentedly watching the distance as a woman strode towards him. She was followed by two workers carrying a large pile of things.
She stopped about two meters from him and gazed at him. "Donglin, you look quite good today."
He grinned. "What goodies have you brought me?"
"Our wedding photos..." Zhou Ting explained. "Remember we had them taken a few months ago? I hadn’t gotten around to picking up the frames and things. The photo studio has urged me several times in the past two weeks to collect them, so I brought them back. Donglin, do you want to keep them, or should I?"
"Leave them here with me."
Zhou Ting gave a few instructions, and the two workers carried the items straight into the house.
She sat down across from him, examining him closely for a good while. "You look much healthier than last time. Originally, my parents wanted us to proceed with the wedding as planned. You know, my father has encountered a bit of trouble recently. He’s worried that if the wedding is canceled, your mother won’t be willing to provide strong support as she did before..."
Wan Donglin said nonchalantly, "If you agree, then I naturally have no objections."
His indifferent attitude left Zhou Ting puzzled. After a long silence, she finally said slowly, "Donglin, I heard you had a girlfriend back in China before?"
Wan Donglin chuckled. "Just one girlfriend? I couldn’t count them all on ten fingers."
"And the ones you spent a fortune supporting through university—were there also too many of them to count on ten fingers?"
Wan Donglin’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
