CHAPTER 307: CHAPTER 307: REGRET MARRIAGE 1_1
Xu Xiaoya caught up with him, card in hand, "Third Young Master..."
He turned around, his tone indifferent, "You hold on to this card for Xixi for the time being."
"But Xixi insisted I pass it on to you."
"Just hold it for her for now."
Xu Xiaoya dared not say more, as he had already strode away.
After walking quite a distance, he slowed his pace. Staring at the photocopy, he gave a bitter laugh. After more than two years, this was his first "photo" of her. Nevertheless, it was better to have one than not.
On the first day back at work after the New Year, Yan Xixi was a bit absent-minded. Fortunately, everyone was still shaking off the holiday atmosphere and didn’t notice her unusual behavior. She spent most of the day flipping through work plans but couldn’t think of anything. Her mind was a muddle. Get married? Resign?
At the end of the workday, Huang Xiaojue called, "Xixi, come to my place for dinner tonight. My mom wants to discuss the wedding details with us."
Every time she thought of going to the Huang Family, she would feel apprehensive. Deep down, she just wanted to be alone with Huang Xiaojue, but she couldn’t remain indifferent to wedding matters. Xu Xiaoya’s words involuntarily surfaced in her mind: Does Huang’s mother really not mind your past at all?
That night, the dinner was lavish, and everything went smoothly. Both Mr. and Mrs. Huang were very warm.
Especially Mrs. Huang. She was more enthusiastic than on previous occasions. However, when Yan Xixi accidentally met her eyes, she found her gaze was ice-cold. She wondered if she was mistaken because, in the blink of an eye, Mrs. Huang was all smiles again.
She was dazed, attributing it to her own unsettled state of mind that day.
Mrs. Huang pulled out brochures from several hotels. "I’ve inquired with these five-star hotels. They’re all very busy during that time period. Given the number of tables we’re booking, they’ve all said they don’t have availability."
Huang Xiaojue said, "Then I’ll ask some friends for help."
"No need. I’ve already asked your aunt and uncle. They said they’ve almost settled on one."
"That’s good. We’ll just handle the wedding invitations."
Mrs. Huang chuckled. "Son, you’re so busy, why waste time? Let us handle the invitations too. Once the banquet is fully confirmed, we’ll arrange everything."
Huang Xiaojue agreed promptly, "Then we’ll be troubling you, Dad and Mom."
Mrs. Huang chided jokingly, "You silly boy, still being so formal with us? Which parents wouldn’t go to great lengths for their child’s wedding?"
Everyone laughed.
Huang Xiaojue suddenly remembered something. "Xixi and I were thinking of getting our marriage license in a few days."
Mrs. Huang stood up abruptly, shaking her head. "Absolutely not."
The two of them were taken aback.
Mrs. Huang was very serious. "I’ve consulted someone about that day. It’s an extremely unlucky day, completely unsuitable for a wedding. It’s known as Widow’s Day. Xiaojue, you absolutely must not choose this day to get your license."
Huang Xiaojue asked in surprise, "Mom, didn’t I ask you about it last time? You said it was a good day. You didn’t say anything then about it being extremely unlucky."
"I hadn’t consulted anyone at that time, had I? It was only after checking that I found out it’s so inauspicious. You two, don’t be impatient. As long as you get the license before the wedding ceremony, it’s fine. I’ll find a reputable Mr. Yin Yang to look into it, determine an auspicious date, and then let you know."
Huang Xiaojue was dismissive. "Mom, why are you so superstitious?"
"This isn’t superstition, son. Feng Shui is a profound branch of learning, a legacy from our ancestors. There’s definitely wisdom to it. Many instances of family discord, divorce, and troubled marriages are entirely due to bad Feng Shui. Don’t you two worry. I’ll pick a good day for you as soon as possible."
