CHAPTER 674: CHAPTER 158: DOES XI MOHAN LIKE NING WAN?_3
The receptionist didn’t dare to stay any longer and walked out immediately.
Xi Mohan went straight to the middle-aged uncle, who had stood up in panic when he saw him enter. He unlocked the phone to show Ning Wan’s photo in school uniform and handed it directly to the man, speaking in a deep voice that revealed no clear emotion, calmly asking, "Have you seen this woman?"
The middle-aged uncle glanced at the photo on the phone and nodded immediately, saying, "Yes... yes, she stayed at my inn for two days last week. I called you only after seeing the missing person notice you posted online."
Xi Mohan’s lips were tightly pursed, his eyes profoundly deep, yet his expression remained obscure and indistinct.
The middle-aged uncle continued explaining, "Although there are many guests staying at my inn every day, I have a strong impression of her because she is quite pretty. But she looked ill that day, very pale, and kept coughing intermittently. My wife, feeling sorry for her, wanted to take her to the hospital, but she declined my wife’s kind offer and instead bought a cup of instant noodles for dinner... Seeing her alone, my wife couldn’t bear it and went to buy her some medicine from the pharmacy... On the third day, when it was time to check out, she didn’t come down. We went up and found her fainted in the room, running a high fever..."
The manager was nervous, and his explanation was a bit disorganized, but they all understood the gist of it.
"Fainted with a fever?" The man chewed over these words, his face growing even more somber.
The middle-aged uncle, perhaps frightened by Xi Mohan’s intimidating demeanor, took a step back and hesitantly said, "Yes... yes..."
The secretary behind him was so shocked that she covered her mouth, unable to imagine what exactly Ning Wan had encountered. The manager had initially described to her the conditions related to Ning Wan’s situation, a suitcase, clothes bought cheaply at roadside, pale as if sick.
Moreover, the manager owned a very small inn, similar to those small ones around train stations, where a night costs only twenty to thirty yuan.
The secretary simply couldn’t fathom what kind of life Ning Wan was leading because, according to the manager, she seemed to change places every few days.
"Why didn’t you send her to the hospital?" Xi Mohan’s face was so grim it was indescribable, his mood even seemed somewhat suppressed, his voice hoarse, his jaw clenched tight.
The innkeeper, frightened by the chilling aura emanating from Xi Mohan, nearly collapsed, and hurriedly said, "We wanted to... wanted to take her to the hospital, but although the young lady was unconscious, she was still aware and kept saying she couldn’t go to the hospital, her emotions seemed very erratic... We were afraid of making things worse, so... we didn’t take her to the hospital..."
The secretary, standing behind her boss all this while, noticed Xi Mohan’s hands tensed into fists on both sides, his phone almost deformed by his grip. A shock ran through her, and a bold thought surfaced in her mind.
Before, when Xi Mohan instructed them to look for Second Lady Ning, they still didn’t know the exact situation, but they sent people out nonetheless. However, Second Lady Ning seemed to have vanished into thin air over this past month, leaving no trace to be found. Several times when she reported to Xi Mohan truthfully, she noticed his expression becoming uglier each time.
The president’s current expression, it looked like he had feelings for Second Lady Ning...
This thought, at this very moment, streaked through the secretary’s mind, altering her expression again and again, even rendering her somewhat incredulous.
Previously, whether inside the company, outside of it, or within their circles, wasn’t it always said that their boss strongly disliked Second Lady Ning and favored the elder Miss Ning instead?
Even several people, including everyone in their entire company, were quite envious of their boss and the elder Miss Ning’s relationship, as they had been together for many years. There had always been rumors about the president’s unwavering devotion to the elder Miss Ning; although everyone had their thoughts, no one could compare to the elder Miss Ning.
It had even been tacitly agreed that the elder Miss Ning would be their future president’s wife, to the point that some were already secretly calling her the president’s lady.
