CHAPTER 125: THE DAUGHTER OF VICO

Maya lay awake for a long time, but she refused to confront her new reality, so her eyes remained tightly shut, feigning sleep. Her happily ever after had abruptly ended. She was only given just a year of happiness, then fate cruelly snatched it away, sending her back to purgatory.

"My dear daughter, I know you are pretending to be asleep." A cold chilly voice said.

Maya’s eyes snapped open.

A tall middle-aged man with olive skin and a chiseled facial structure, like that of a Mafia don, lingered by the bed Maya was lying in. His face bore a familiarity that she couldn’t quite place.

Maya pushed herself into a sitting position, using the last bit of energy her body had left. She was physically weakened by whatever drug Nana Rose spiked her wine with.

Nana Rose.... She can’t think about her now. She will process her betrayal later. All of her thoughts and attention are captured by this man standing in front of her.

"Oh, Cecilia bore me such a beautiful creature." The man fawns.

Maya’s eyes widened. She tried repeating his words. "Cecilia... bore." Her brain couldn’t process his words into meaningful information.

The man laughed. "You are such an endearing child. Let me make an official introduction. ’’ He cleared his throat. "I’m Vico De Luca, your father."

Maya’s head slammed back against the bed’s headboard, "No!" she screamed. "It can’t be! No, you can’t be my father!" Her father can’t be him - her father can’t be the man who killed Dalton’s father and kidnapped him and Aiden, ruining their childhood.

Her father cannot possibly be Vico, the man Dalton despises the most in the entire world!

"You are not my father. He doesn’t exist!" She shrieks as fresh tears flood her eyes. She can deny it with her words, but deep in her mind, in her heart, she knows that this man is her father.

She remembered Frederick Hathaway had mentioned that he couldn’t kill her due to his fear of Vico. The shares of Venus City that Vico put in her name. Their striking resemblance, she was the younger female version of him. She couldn’t deny all of this evidence. She was the daughter of the famous Mafia don, Vic De Luca.

Vico sighs, "You’re a mess. You’re a grown woman but you’re crying like a four-year-old. " He looks at her in disgust. "I thought Frederick Hathaway would have turned you into a cold scornful woman who has learned not to show tears" He fumes

Maya snorted through her tears and her tears stopped flowing. "What an asshole," she murmured, glaring at him.

"I wish I could raise that dog, Frederick back from the dead so I could kill him again for doing a bad job." Vico vented.

Maya paused. "Kill him again?" "Oh, do you think your beloved husband killed Frederick Hathaway, and that stupid half-brother of yours?" He sniggered.

"Sweetheart, I got them killed. There’s no way I could let him go scot-free after he almost ended your life in that fall and tried to sell you into prostitution. I had marked his death day on my calendar, but I had to move the date forward because he was so stupid. "

Maya hopped out of bed and paced around the room. She was bewildered by this revelation. She darted at him. "So you knew Frederick Hathaway and his kids were making my life a living hell since I was little, and you did nothing to intervene and end my suffering sooner. Why?" Her lips quivered as she spoke.

"I wanted to toughen you up. I didn’t want a weakling, someone who hasn’t tasted the bitterness or the harsh reality of life as a daughter. I wanted you to experience a living nightmare that would mold you into a strong woman. Fredrick Hathaway and his son had done a good job, but it was a shame that they became greedy and wanted to take your life, and later decided to turn you into a whore."

Maya laughed bitterly, "Do you know how ridiculous and insane you sound? You allowed your daughter to be physically abused by two evil men since she was a child, because you wanted to turn her into a strong, independent mafia princess. You’re sick and twisted, what the hell is wrong with you?" She clenched her fist tightly, and launched at him, hitting him right in the face.

Vico stumbled back and swiped his palm over his bloody nose. He looked at the blood on his palm and laughed derangedly. "You’ve got fire in you young lady," he said. "You remind me of myself when I was younger."

Maya hissed at him, "I’m nothing like you!" She wished she could take a second swing, but she was so tired. And her fists might burst if they hit that chiselled face again.

Vico chuckled. "You can’t erase my blood that runs through your veins, and you bear my name - Maya De Luca."

God, she despises this despicable man so much. "I don’t care about your shitty blood that runs through my veins." She spat. "And it is Maya Black now," She flashed her ring at him.

She took a deep breath. "I can’t entertain you anymore. Can you send me back to my husband?" She defiantly stared down at Vico

Vico took a white handkerchief out of his pocket and wiped the blood off his nose and palm. Then he tossed it on the floor. His honey brown eyes gazed coldly at Maya, "You should stop calling him your husband. Soon he will be your ex-husband."

Maya laughed amusedly, "You are so out of touch! You are going to order me to divorce my husband, and like a fool, I will obey?"

"Now get out of my way, old man!" Her eyes were fixed on the door to freedom.

Vico started clapping, and Maya wondered if he was the Aiden type of crazy.

"Fredrick Hathaway did an excellent job. You have a backbone. But, sorry sweetheart, I don’t think your husband will want you back. If that Godmother of his helped deliver you to me, that means she hates you. I’m sure she is spilling venom into Dalton’s mind, telling him that you are the daughter of his nemesis. "

Maya’s face drained of color, and her heart pounded painfully against her aching chest. Dalton now knew that she was Vico’s daughter.

He is going to stop loving her. He cannot love her anymore. She is the daughter of this monster.

Vico couldn’t stop talking and tormented Maya further. "It just took a sentence for that old woman to agree to help me bring you back home. All I needed to do was tell her that you conspired with me to kill Dalton, but unfortunately, he survived."

Maya winced. She couldn’t blame Nana Rose for hating her. Shooting Dalton was unforgivable, even if it was an accident.

If Nana Rose believed that she had conspired with Vico to murder her godson, Dalton might also believe it.

Dalton was going to loathe her, and the realization caused her heart to crumble, shattering it into a million pieces as she screamed in agony.

She was going to lose Dalton, her only source of joy and the love of her life.
