CHAPTER 134: TASTE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE AND A NEW MAN FOR MAYA?

Maya’s teeth dug into her thumb, which was in her mouth. Her legs moved back and forth from the door to the foot of the bed as she paced around, feeling agitated, nervous, confused, and lost in thought.. Natalia just left for the airport, as reported by the female bodyguard assigned to protect her. Maya is out of the loop, unaware of why Vico wants Natalia to meet Dalton and what Vico has made the men do to Soraya and Valentina. Ignorance of these two things is clouding her mind.

"Miss," Maya called out to the female bodyguard who had been stationed against the wall, all day. Maya was not interested in learning her name. Why would she want to know the name of a woman who had the blood of innocent people on her hands, just like everyone else working in this mafia organization?

The bodyguard lifted her head. "Ma’am?"

"Uh, do you know what happened to those two women you guys are keeping in captivity?" Maya clasped her hands, tense and fearing the worst for her half-sister and step-cousin. These two women were largely responsible for the misery she had endured, but she couldn’t bring herself to revel in their suffering. She didn’t have that in her.

"Give me a moment, please," the bodyguard said, touching the communication device tucked in her ear and speaking to whomever was on the other end.

Maya thought this bodyguard would leave the room to go inquire about the question Maya had asked, but no, she was never going to leave Maya alone in the room unguarded, per Vico’s orders.

Minutes later, the bodyguard spoke to Maya. "The don is on his way to your room."

Maya held back an eye roll. "Okay, thanks for your help," Maya said as she perched on her bed, legs crossed and arms folded in frustration against her chest.

Vico strode into the room pompously.

"Tesoro..."

"What happened to Valentina and Soraya?" Maya interrupted him.

Vico scowled. "You’re too concerned about these Hathaway women for my liking. I recall that they both loathe you."

"It’s called having empathy—basically being a decent person who doesn’t wish harm on others, especially those who have not yet killed innocent people." Maya emphasizes "killed" because she wouldn’t mind if death visited Vico, Natalia, and the entire Mafia organization.

"Well, do you want to see what has befallen those two? I took a video," Vico nonchalantly asked.

Maya sharply exhaled. With flinching eyes, she said, "No." Her stomach churned.

"I wish you had an evil bone in you," Vico’s voice dripped with disappointment.

"Soraya tampered with your basement staircase to cause a fall that could have crippled you, caused another head injury, or even ended your life. So, I gave her a taste of her own medicine. I had my men push her down the stairs. My doctors, who are treating her, have just informed me that she will never be able to walk again. We will be sending her off to Spain soon to be with her parents."

Maya’s lips were agape. She doesn’t know how she feels about this. She neither feels sorry nor happy; it’s just plain indifference. However, it’s Aunt Lily’s reaction that worries her.

She guess karma has really caught up with Soraya

When Maya realized her mouth was wide open in shock, she quickly clamped it shut and asked, "What about Valentina? What did you do to her?"

"Natalia is going to be in charge of that. Just as Valentina helped her father in nearly turning you into a sex pet, Natalia is going to return the favor by turning Valentina into a slut for the highest bidders."

Maya buried her head in her hands. She didn’t like this at all. No woman, even the evil ones, should be turned into a sex slave for the sake of men who can not control their carnal animalistic desires.

Natalia will be ruthless; she has a newfound hatred for Valentina that doesn’t make any sense at all. Maya recalls how hostile Natalia was toward Valentina at the dinner she and Dalton hosted some time ago. They even got into a heated argument, saying things that didn’t make sense. What on earth has created such animosity between these two women?

Maya feels really sorry for her half-sister, Valentina. Maya wishes Valentina could receive any other punishment besides being turned into a sex slave.

Maya’s thoughts were replaced by the meeting that Natalia and Dalton were going to have. She was trying to muster the courage to ask Vico about it, but he beat her to it.

"Natalia is meeting with Dalton. She told you about it, right?"

"What is the purpose of this meeting?" Maya asked impatiently.

Vico looked straight into Maya’s eyes, and it was intimidating. "I’m demanding the same thing I demanded from you the first time we met."

Maya scrunched up her face. "What did you..."

"We will discuss that when Natalia returns from the States. For now, get yourself together; you are going to meet the man I have chosen for you at a gala at a museum tomorrow."

Maya huffed. "A man? Papa, I’m already married, so no thank you." She was fuming inside.

"You don’t have a say in this. You are going to end that marriage with Black and marry the man I’m choosing for you." Vico was firm and stern.

"I love Dalton! I will stay married to him forever!" Maya’s voice rose loudly. She hates begging Vico, but she did it anyway. "Please, just accept him. I know you two are enemies, but you killed his dad, kidnapped him, and stole his childhood. And he got back at you by taking your American mafia territory, so you’re even now. I’m begging you, Papa, just let me stay married to Dalton!"

Vico’s nostrils flared. "Do you know that the mafia organization Dalton Black’s father was working for is part of the people who would have killed you if they had known of your existence? I can never accept him as your husband!"

His voice turned deadly cold. "I could have ordered my men to kill Dalton during the operation to bring you to me, but I decided against it out of pity for the devastation and grief his death would cause you."

Fear surged through Maya at the thought of Dalton being killed by Vico. She could have killed herself, too, and joined her husband

"Now be a good girl for Papa, and get ready to meet your second husband tomorrow," Vico left, slamming the door behind him.
