Chapter 144: The ambush rescue
CHAPTER 144: THE AMBUSH RESCUE
The twins were arguing as usual, while Dalton anxiously waited for Aiden’s arrival. He had been gone all day, and it was already 2 AM, but he still wasn’t back.
"Want a drink?" River offered.
"Not in the mood," Dalton shot him down.
"I’m back!" Aiden sang as he darted in.
"How did it go?"
Aiden grinned. "I was able to talk to her." He tossed his phone to Dalton. "You can read the whole exchange."
"Oh my gosh!" River exclaimed excitedly, jumping and pulling Aiden into a hug.
"That’s great," Oliver smiled.
Dalton was lost in his own thoughts as he read the exchange, a smile in his heart as he absorbed Maya’s last words: she told him she loved him so much and promised that she would soon be in his arms.
Damn, he has turned into a crybaby. He could feel the tears of relief burning in his eyes.
He pulled Aiden into his arms. "Thank you, little brother. You are so amazing."
’Aww,’ River exclaimed.
"But screw you for telling her I’m a crybaby," Dalton playfully punching him.
"Ouch," Aiden pulled away from him and clutching his stomach.
"We’d better start listing all the delicacies we had the honour of tasting in all the countries we visited, so Maya can prepare them for when she gets back." River slid his arms around his twin brother and led him out of the room.
Once they were gone, Aide began the strategic talks. "So, on Friday, there will be the biggest meeting in the mafia world between Vico and his trusted buyers. Maya will be there, and of course, that bastard Marcello will be, too. Vico is introducing a new drug to the market that will be more profitable than any other drug out there."
"So we ambushed and rescued Maya," Aiden said.
"With the help of some intel, I found out the location of the warehouse where Vico manufactures his drugs. That information cost me ten million dollars."
"I will give you back twice that amount," Dalton promised.
"I will remind you of that," Aiden said with a happy smirk. "Now, back to the conversation. With the help of the tracker, we will know when Maya is in that warehouse. Before coming back here, I sneaked into the warehouse, and within two hours, I was able to know every corner of that Warehouse, including the secret exit in the basement. Before Friday, I will plant a bomb in that warehouse with a timer. Our team will deal with Vico’s men in the warehouse while Vico tries to escape with Marcello, the redhead, and Maya, along with a few bodyguards, through that secret exit. Then they will become vulnerable to a surprise ambush, and then we will take Maya." He debriefs.
"A perfect plan," Dalton said, confident that it would work.

Maya has been very careful to ensure that the tracker Aiden attached to her scalp won’t come off or be detected. It has been the most anxious week of her life. Vico has been pressuring her to sign the divorce papers and marry Marcello so she can see her mom before she passes away, but she goes silent every time he brings it up. She has so much confidence that Dalton and Aiden will rescue her and find a way for her to see her mom.
Friday has finally arrived, and she is in a basement of a warehouse filled with thick air, heavy with the scent of strong cologne, cigar smoke, expensive alcohol, and the laughter of wicked men and one wicked woman, Natalia, as they discuss the latest drug manufactured by Vico.
Maya sat nervously between Vico and Marcello, with Natalia standing, hovering over them.
Maya was so anxious that her legs were shaking as she anticipated Aiden and Dalton’s raid.
Finally, the meeting was over, and Vico was shaking hands with the buyers while everyone was on their feet.
Vico allowed his buyers to exit first out of courtesy, and then they followed suit.
As they were leaving the basement, Vico received a phone call. The moment he answered, a look of gloom swiftly crossed his face; Maya could tell it was bad news.
"Maya, I’m sorry," Vico told her.
Maya frowned. "Sorry about what?"
Vico ducked his head down. "Your mother just passed away. I’m having her cremated immediately, and her ashes will be given to you."
A berserk fury overtook Maya, and she slapped Vico hard across the face. "You are so cruel! You let her die without letting me see her. I have been here for a month, and you didn’t tell me about her. You waited until the last moment to inform me so you could use her to force me to marry this doucebag piece of shit! Who slept with my sister and has been sleeping with my cousin for who knows how long!" she cried in rage.
Vico touched his face and looked at Marcello and Natalia with disgust and shock, as if he had just discovered this when their whole family had known about this doomed love story for many years. How oblivious can Vico be!
Both Natalia and Marcello had shame and guilt written all over their faces.
Vico touched Maya’s shoulder. "I’m..."
That was when they heard gunshots.
"Fuck!" Marcello cursed.
"An ambush attack! The information about the new drug has leaked to our enemies!" Natalia panicked as she drew out her gun.
"Let’s use the other basement exit; nobody knows about it, not even the men who work here," Vico said.
While the three were panicking, Maya was strangely calm, but they were too frightened to notice.
Dalton and Aiden are here; she is getting rescued!
"Let’s go." Vico and Natalia led the way
Three trusted and skilled bodyguards who were in the basement with them followed to protect them.
Marcello grabbed Maya’s arm and dragged her through a passage that led to a room filled with crates and boxes. Vico and Natalia pushed the crates aside, revealing a brick wall. They touched a brick, and a door was revealed. They entered and found a staircase that led to the outside, which they swiftly climbed.
