CHAPTER 55: I’M THE SADDEST SALTED FISH
"Old Fang, better take refuge at your gym first and bring Miss Li along with you," Gong Panli requested.
"Ji ji ji." (Master, don’t let Little Ginseng get eaten.)
Li Chunhua patted the grass bracelet on her wrist.
"You don’t need to worry about me. Even if I’m old, my skills are not rusty. On the contrary, with the majority of the ability users in conflict with you, those people will take the opportunity to harm you. Better bring alone this lass as your bodyguard," Mr. Fang nudged Li Chunhua.
"Uncle, it’s dangerous up there. Why doesn’t Gentleman Gong...stay here?" Li Chunhua didn’t like that idea.
"This boy is stubborn. Even if I stop him, he will still probably go. Lass, keep an eye on this boy, and I’ll prepare you a feast later." Mr. Fang leaned in and whispered to Li Chunhua’s ears.
Prepare me a feast?
Count me in!
Uncle is becoming more and more handsome!
Li Chunhua’s eyes brightened. She immediately agreed, forgetting her inner struggle. "Uncle, you can rest assured. I’ll protect Gentleman Gong with my life. I have experience in escorting services." She patted her chest, promising Mr. Fang.
In her early days of joining the sect, she also participated in a few escorting missions, so she had accumulated some knowledge.
The two thought she was just jesting about the escorting services and didn’t take it seriously, but her agreement to protect Gong Panli made their hearts warm.
"She really didn’t need to." Gong Panli refused, but Li Chunhua had already stuck closer to him like glue, and no matter how he put the distance between them, Miss Li reduced the gap, leaving him helpless.
Mr. Fang nodded in approval. He had always been worried for this reckless boy’s safety. With this lass around, the lad Gong Panli wouldn’t need to worry.
"Then I’ll be going off first. Lass, you better keep your promise." Mr. Fang waved his hand, and he saw Li Chunhua nod and gave him a thumbs up. His heart was eased.
"Take care and don’t come out until the danger is lifted." Gong Panli spoke in concern.
"I will. You should watch your backs as well." Mr. Fang waved his hand before walking away, silently hoping there would be no casualties.
"What’s the situation?"
"A convoy comprising researchers and mercenaries tasked by the head of the research institute set out this morning because of the meteors that descended out of nowhere, but somehow the convoy met with a mishap halfway and attracted a swarm of Undead. The rough estimate number is five hundred. We don’t know yet the other specifics."
One of the patrol guards was having a conversation with another when they passed by Li Chunhua, and her eyes went wide immediately.
Meteors? Could they be referring to her Heavenly Rage skill?
(; ̄ー ̄川
The people from the base went to investigate it?
However, those meteors disappeared after they caused destruction. Those people’s trip will end up in vain.
"A convoy was sent to an abandoned city for a meteorite?" Gong Panli mumbled absentmindedly.
He didn’t know of this matter, probably because he was so anxious about searching for a living person back then that he missed seeing the phenomenon.
Then, he suddenly remembered the conversation back then between those three men that came with them, and his eyes unconsciously traveled to Li Chunhua.
♪~( ̄ε ̄;)
Li Chunhua sensed it and coughed before looking elsewhere. "Not entirely my fault." She mumbled under her breath.
The Detention Center was just established several blocks away from the Mission Hall and wasn’t far from the entrance to the stairs leading to the top of the defense wall.
Li Chunhua could hear the noise of rushing footsteps, curses, and angry complaints with her qi-enhanced hearing, and she also picked up the name of Gong Panli included in their profanities.
A group of ability users with heavy expressions passed by, and when they saw Gong Panli in front of the Detention Center, the expressions on their faces became uglier.
Some of them spat on the ground while glaring at him.
While some didn’t restrain their mouths from spouting hurtful words.
"Isn’t it the philanthropist Panli who likes to be the hero of the weak? Why don’t you let him and his group of old fogies out of the base and let them deal with those undead instead? They are basically a waste of resources if they keep huddling in their rooms."
"It’s totally unfair. The others get a lot of freebies, while we need to risk our lives outside and earn very few points."
"Not to mention, we still needed to pay taxes as well. This is bullsh*t. If you want to play hero, then don’t get us involved."
Li Chunhua could feel the hate radiating from their eyes. She doesn’t know what’s going on, but from how Gong Panli was treated by those grandmothers and children and some of the mercenaries like Sister Liang, he didn’t deserve these insults.
She secretly observed Gong Panli’s face, and when she saw he was calm, she also reined in her temper.
If this were her previous world and her Senior Sister was the one receiving all these insults, then these people would pass out from pain on the ground. They wouldn’t have the chances to finish their words.
Gong Panli was so used to hearing such words that his ears had grown calloused, so he wasn’t affected that much.
His lack of reaction made the people scowl in dissatisfaction. They spat a few more vile lines before picking up their pace.
Eventually, a few more groups of ability users passed by and did the same thing, but not all of them were unfriendly. Some had nodded at Gong Panli and even greeted him with an amiable smile, which Gong Panli reciprocated with equal warmth.
Li Chunhua heaved a sigh of relief.
After the majority of ability users had climbed the wall, Gong Panli also proceeded to climb. The hired escort, Li Chunhua, also followed along like a little tail behind him.
It took a few minutes for them to arrive on top, and once they reached it, Li Chunhua approached one of the gaps in the stone claddings and saw three vehicles in the distance heading to the base. Behind them was a tide of hundreds of undead.
Li Chunhua’s heart beats fast.
For some reason, she began to picture out possible scenarios of the upcoming monster tide attacking her territory in the Main Game Planet.
At this moment, she hoped the territory would not receive such a high evaluation because what comes after defeating the mobs is a boss, and not just any boss.
But the Boss of the Secret Realm.
