The Cannon-Fodder Villainess Faked Her Death, Her Five Beast Mates Go Wild
Chapter 48: Blood Beast Attack
CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48: BLOOD BEAST ATTACK
The roar was far away, yet it was still deafening. The sound of chaotic and dense footsteps came from the foot of the mountain, as if the earth itself was trembling!
The Beastmen in the cave immediately became alert. Yun Suo’s expression changed slightly as he held Bai Rong and retreated into the cave, entrusting her and Bai Qiao to Bai Yan before going outside to inspect.
Wen Shu also headed outside but was pulled back by a cold hand. Mious looked at her disapprovingly, pushing her back between Nan and Wu Xuan, and whispered, "Keep an eye on her, I’ll be back soon."
Faced with an unknown crisis, Wen Shu felt a vague unease but couldn’t resist approaching the cave entrance to look out.
Thanks to her superior eyesight, she saw the males in the tribal square in chaos, while at the distant edge of the tribe, tall fences were being climbed by Beastmen. There were also several High-level Beasts, transforming into massive beast forms, leaping directly into the tribe, their sharp claws tearing a large hole in the fence!
Faced with powerful High-level Beasts, the guards were completely unable to resist. Wen Shu watched helplessly as a red fox had its throat bitten off by a blood-drenched Lion Beast!
With such combat capability, they could only be Blood Beasts!
How did they arrive so quickly!
By this time, males had already rushed up the mountain. Wen Shu heard one of them panting as he shouted, "Blood Beasts have launched a surprise attack! Quickly guide the females to evacuate from the east side!"
Blood Beasts had already breached the tribal edge and were charging into the square. Edon was organizing the males for a battle, while amidst the densely packed crowd, the sporadic females were being guarded by Beast Husbands, retreating to a safe area on the east side.
Not waiting for Mious to return, Wu Xuan had already picked up Wen Shu, while Nan stood vigilantly at the cave entrance. Seeing the Blood Beasts hadn’t broken through the square’s defenses yet, his expression turned serious, "Let’s go, before they reach us."
Bai Yan and the others immediately left, with Wu Xuan closely following behind.
Wen Shu clung to Wu Xuan’s neck, sharing a heavy gaze with Mious.
The male’s brows moved slightly, with an unreadable emotion flashing through his eyes. Then he transformed into beast form without hesitation, rushing toward the tribal square.
Fearing being too conspicuous, Wu Xuan refrained from taking beast form, but his speed was still fast. Wen Shu buried her face in his chest, shielding herself from the increasingly fierce wind.
Soon, they saw other fleeing females.
Tina noticed them, but her gaze fell behind them, and she suddenly screamed, "Blood Beasts! Blood Beasts are catching up!"
Wen Shu followed her line of sight and indeed saw three tall, robust males chasing after them.
The leading male had a fierce scar on his face. As he ran, he sniffed something, rushing toward the direction where the females were gathered with excitement.
Wen Shu carefully discerned that his eyes fell several times on Wu Xuan’s back. At this moment, she also saw what the male held—it was a piece of dark green vine, looking dried up and nearly withered.
Mysteriously, Wen Shu thought of when she was caught by Luo Fei, tied up with such vines!
"Wu Xuan."
Wen Shu glanced again, fully confirming her suspicion. Her gaze swept over the fleeing females, landing on a nearby fence, and she pointed, "Let’s escape through here."
Nan looked at Wen Shu puzzled, but before he could ask, Wu Xuan leapt out without thinking!
Nan immediately followed, and Lucius and his group far behind didn’t hesitate to follow as well.
After traversing several kilometers through the dense forest, Wu Xuan’s body temperature rose. Wen Shu pressed close to him to ease the burden, her eyes vigilantly focused behind.
Those three Beastmen weren’t far off, maintaining a close pursuit, but running like this wasn’t a solution. If they alarmed the Giant Corpse Beasts, they’d be in grave danger.
Wen Shu scanned the surroundings. They were nearing the dense forest’s depths; every few meters, there were giant trees with hollowed trunks, where Beastmen sometimes rested while hunting on their way back.
"Wu Xuan," she leaned close to the male’s ear, softly asking, "What’s their rank? Do you and Nan have a chance?"
Wu Xuan had observed earlier, quickly answering, "They’re all Fifth Rank; just one male from Lucius’s group helping will suffice to tackle them."
After hearing him, Wen Shu looked at Lucius’s group on the right, forming an idea.
If the male lead won’t loyally follow the female lead, deciding to bother her instead, why not use him a bit?
Wen Shu patted Wu Xuan’s arm, signaling towards the tree hollow ahead on the right, whispering near his ear, "Did you see it? Push Lucius inside."
Lucius and his group, with keen ears, naturally heard, but before they could react, Wu Xuan was already speeding towards them.
"Bang—"
Ku Jia was knocked harshly to the ground. Lucius narrowly dodged but was forced into the tree hollow, barely stabilizing after staggering a few steps.
His expression unchanged, he looked at Wen Shu calmly, a slight smile teased on his lips, "What’s this for?"
Wen Shu did not answer him; the incoming Blood Beasts provided the answer.
They stormed into the tree hollow, indiscriminately attacking all males!
Wu Xuan set Wen Shu at the hollow’s back, exchanging a glance with Nan, and then took on a Blood Beast, forcing Ku Jia and the others to fight back.
Seeing this, Lucius raised an eyebrow, his half-smile fixed on Wen Shu, his tone gentle, "Just let us know if you want help, no need for such scheming."
Wen Shu had no time for him; if he wanted to help, he would have done so long ago, instead of leisurely watching while they were chased by Blood Beasts.
Outside the tree hollow, the battle was fierce, Wu Xuan’s figure occasionally glimpsed past, the sounds of beasts clashing growing more intense, and Wen Shu realized something was wrong, Nan frowned, "More Blood Beasts are catching up! Ashu, I’ll take you out."
Bending down to pick up Wen Shu, he hurried toward the exit, but before they got close, two large figures blocked the entrance tightly.
They sniffed in Wen Shu’s direction and suddenly grinned, "It’s her! This time I must make a name for myself!"
The male beside him lunged first, "Whoever gets her first wins!"
Nan immediately transformed with beast claws to counter, fiercely rebuffing the male several steps back, gaining momentum, he unfurled his wings, the sharp tips aimed at them. The two Beastmen barely dodged in time, nearly having their throats pierced!
Wen Shu saw something was amiss. Nan clearly had rich combat experience...
But now wasn’t the time to ponder that. The two Beastmen had coordinated, launching attacks on Nan from the left and right.
The Eagle Beast slashed claws at Nan’s leg, and the other Wolf Beast transformed into beast form, biting toward his head!
With lower rank, Nan couldn’t evade, being tackled to the ground, grasping the Wolf Beast’s tusk in both hands, feeling a few drops of vile saliva drip beside his face.
Wen Shu’s heart was in her throat. She glanced at Lucius and found him leaning against the cave wall, unfazed.
Seeing Wen Shu looking over, he raised an eyebrow, chuckled, and asked, "Need help?"
Wen Shu glanced at Nan, restraining her anger, replied, "You intervene, and I’ll treat you for free in the future."
Lucius feigned surprise at her, contemplating for a few seconds. Amid Wen Shu’s anxious gaze, he offered a slight smile, "Tempting...but I don’t want to help you."
He’s completely given up the pretense!
Nan was almost out of strength. The Eagle Beast’s claws stretched wide, ready to blind him!
Wen Shu coldly glared at Lucius, wasting no more time.
She lunged with claws hidden, charging towards the Eagle Beast’s exposed back, piercing his spine when least expected!
The sensation of flesh torn apart came unmistakably through her claws. The male beast flailed his wings in disbelief, but with the spinal damage, his wings could only hang limp, and his body plummeted like a broken puppet.
With one less enemy, Nan and the Wolf Beast reached a stalemate.
Wen Shu withdrew a couple of steps, seeking another opening, when suddenly a chill swept by her back, Lucius’s cold breath brushing her ear, voice icy, "You’re really not to be underestimated."
Her body stiffened, a prick of caution driving her to strike backward, only to have her neck struck violently, her vision plunging into darkness.
